4th Gen Will this work?

My bro wants to restart one of my Diamonds and he wants all three Johto starters to use at the beginning of the game. I have all three, and this was my plan. He picks Piplup, goes up to the first town, catches 3 pokemon, trades them over for the johto eggs, hatches them, and continues. Will this work? Does he first need the national dex?

It will work, they'll just appear as ??? number in the pokedex if i remember corerectly.

Yeah, it worked for me, because I had to trade my Electabuzz and Rhydon to eveolve them. The game I traded them to didn't even beat the third Gym Leader.
