Not really. The knowledge that you the player has is what matters. The playable character doesn't have the brains...just a nice sprite. And what about girls? Not all chicks wanna play as Red. Even I switch up the player every now and then.
It would be kinda cool, but pointless really. It would be kinda fun to be the incumbent champion or something lol. They should make 5th gen so you ARE the league champion after you beat the original league champon. That would be awesome!

Huh. What an inteseting concept. Then agian, that would mean all othe games would have set time periods as to which they occur. For example, the events in Johto always take place three years after the events in Kanto. Such Specifics would beneede in every game. Plus, you'd also be bound to the same female eventually.
