Well, it almost appears that only R/S/E had something about the main characters father...

If you beat the Battle Tower Tycoon the first time(Your rival's dad), he tells you that you would grow strong like your father, and after your second fight, he tells you that he and your father used to take walks to the lake a lot.

About the fathers, it's a good question. But there are some other games where your father is absent. In R/B/Y and G/S/C nothing is said. (In the anime, they say Ash's father became a Pokémon Master, thoguh) In R/S/E, your father is the leader of a gym. And in D/P, I think your father is dead, because of how Pearl's father explains it to you.
yea, that's totally weird how D\P's father is almost nonexistant, like in RBY LGFR. But then again, it does show that your character grows up tough and on his own.
oh yeah and i especially also notice that the fr and lg boy character looks the same, but i dont really think of it relating to your character's dad in d/p, but might have something behind it, no? but anyway, no 3rd battle.
Your father in D/P died in a (fill in the blank) accident. With the exception of R/S/E, when is the father important and/or present? Ash's father is mentioned once in the whole anime.
Hmm... I think it has something to do with the Earthbound effect:
You NEVER see your father in game. EVER. In Earthbound, however, you could call him to save and check your bank account. In D/P you never run into a phone, however. But, there's one explanation that's really stupid but can work.
he got the information the same place i got mine he payed close attention to what the games ahas to say and once you complete the game or even before that (cannot remember now) dawns mother goes that the professors aid is dawns father and he works closely with the prof and even before that when he gives you an item he say "look after dawn she is my daughter and i worry" hope that helped :P
When you go to the entrance to cycling road there's an Aide there who gives you the exp share and he says "Hi im Lucas's father and also Prof rowans aide" Wanna know how i got THAt info?
I always want to know why the fathers are absent in most of the Pokemon games for, it makes no sense. I think he probably is dead, just because the way Angel Shaymin explained it
I think all the fathers are dead (I don't know why) except for R/S/E obviously because nobody tells you anything like "he's been travelling a lot". In fact, Pearl's father tells you "blablabla, as your father did" and that sounded clear enough to me.
