It seems like today is the launch of the new YouTube streaming service, and i'm interested in using it. Will it be a better replacement for Twitch?
At its base, it's a Twitch competitor. This may seem like a silly, unnecessary cash-in at first, but considering Twitch is still using a pretty antiquated web player and Youtube, apart from using HTML5, is overall easier to navigate, has more at its disposal, and makes watching pre-recorded videos a breeze by comparison (among various other pros), this is pretty much a direct challenge- an assault even.
And this is nothing short of a good thing. Regardless of whether you actually care about this or not, it's important that somebody kicks Twitch in the pants and let's it see that it can't continue to be as "okay" as it's been, and Youtube is one of the few sites large enough to actually take them on and make them see. Should this sub-site be advertised and pushed well, it'll be do or die for Twitch.
That could be said for just about any region-locked content on YT, really. You should not be forced to use a proxy just to watch streams on Youtube, is all I'm saying.
