Movies you've seen this year

  • I'm sure there's probably been a topic like this before, but since I didn't see one (and I'm bored. What can you do?) I'll post a new one.

Basically, what movies have you seen so far this year, and what did you think of them?

Movies I've seen so far -

The Dark Knight - Heh, along with millions and millions of other, I'm not the first to say that this is the best movie of the year. The box office numbers (which were somewhere close to eclipsing the Titanic of all movies) speak for itself, and the movie was just amazing in every way. Christian Bale and Heath Ledger did great in their respective roles, and what's a movie without the Morgan Freeman, right? xD

Ironman - Another great action comic book summer movie. RDJ is a great actor, and his humor fits perfect with his charecter. I thought the ending was good as well, since it sets it up perfectly for a sequel, and yeah, I like sequels. I can't wait until this comes out on DVD, since this'll be a great one for the collection.

The Incredible Hulk - This one was a lot better than the 2003 adaption to it. Still wasn't as overly increadable as most comic book movies, but I still enjoyed it.

Kung-Fu Panda - I'm a man who likes his animated movies, so this one fits perfectly for me. =P Nice to see Jack Black rebound from some of his past few movies, and he was the whole selling point of this one.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe - As a fan of the show, I just had to go see it. It wasn't as good as I had expected (and I wished they had gone more off into the shows alien mythology rather than it's own stand-alone story), but I still liked it. It was cool to see Mulder and Scully back together, and hey, they even brought Skinner along for the ride. I'm honestly surprised they didn't bring CSM back, but since he's dead, I guess they couldn't. =P

The Love Guru - Ehhhhhhhhhh. It had it's moments, and especially considering the whole plot involved around making fun of the Toronto Maple Leafs 40+ year failures was something I liked, but it wasn't really that good.

Wall-E - As a fan of some of the past Pixar greats (Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, etc.), I just had to go see this one, and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't quite as funny as some of the other past movies, but I still liked it a lot. Plus, like every Pixar movie, it has John Ratzenberger from Cheers, whose one of my favorite actors (so there may be some bias, but who cares. I like it).

Well, that's about it. The 2008 movie season will be winding down soon, so hopefully some more good ones are on the way. The one I'm looking forward to most is the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, which is supposed to be ready by November.

Oh, my gosh... I have to list them all?

The Dark Knight (IMO, best movie ever, saw it three times)
Ironman (saw it three times too.)
    The Incredible Hulk
    Wall-E
    Narnia 2
Journey to the Center of the Earth
    Mama Mia
    Handcock
Tropic Thuder (odd movie, but funny)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Jumper (was that this year, or last year?)

...Might be more that I don't recall.

  • This year I saw:

    Step Up 2 (6/10)
    Wall-E (8/10. Pixar never disappoints)
Wanted (7/10. Ehh... a bit unrealistic)
Hancock (7/10. HORRIBLE story, but the comedy saved it.)

I haven't seen Dark Knight OR Ironman! I don't deserve to be alive...

  • The Dark Knight, see it twice, and Pineapple Express, really funny. I don't see a lot of movies much; it's kinda hard to when the nearest movie theater is 15 miles away.

Surprisingly, I actually got round to watching some on DVD...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull — 8/10; good, just the ending was ಠ_ಠ.

The Simpsons Movie — 4/10; I'd say the nice CG animation is the only thing really holding it up. Humour ran dry as it went on. Just goes to show that Simpson family + story = fail.

Casino Royale — 7/10; I liked it, but the plot seems a bit disjointed and the lack of a good ol' one-to-one fight between Bond and some henchman guy was disappointing. Also seems that it's currently the in-thing for films to include G36Cs.

  • I work in a cinema so I get to see movies for free, so as you can guess I have seen a lot of movies this year XP

I mean it ranges from Sweeney Todd back in January all the way up to Rock n' Rolla out this month XD

Umm I'll just list some of them though and add later:

Sweeney Todd: I'm not a fan of musicals but I loved Sweeney Todd the original so I had to give this one a go too. One of my favourite films this year! I loved the acting, the humor and the story line. It was wonderful and Tim Burton was deffinantly the right man for the job. You wont hear any complaints from me on this one.

Iron Man: This blew me away. I saw it four times and not once did I get bored =D The graphics were stunning and Downey Jr played the part so well that I actually thought it was Tony Stark in the flesh. Excelent Movie!

Kung Fu Panda: I actually prefered this over Wall-E this year. As much as I love Pixar movies this simply made me laugh. The graphics were great, the characters were lovable and it was a rare combo of adult themed humor and something the kids would enjoy. It was a pleasure for all really XD

Hancock: I hate Will Smith, but that aside this was a poor film anyway. The story line was so-so and the ending was a complete let down. I had high hopes for this as it looked quite funny reguardless of whether I think Will Smith can act or not. But in the end I came out with my eyes bleeding.

Wanted: I liked it...but it was a little over the top for me. Reguardless of the fact that it was originally a comic book...It just didn't suit my tastes. Over all an avarage film in my opinion.

Wall-E: I had been looking forward to this for ages. After seeing the trailer and the extrodinary realism put into the CGI it was one of my most antisapated films of the year. BUT, it seems Pixar are going down the same road all the time. There is always a scene where something bad happens, always a scene where they have to deliver an object in time and always a happy ending. Yes its a kids film but they need to be a little more original in they're sequences. I'm not really complainging, I loved the film but in all honesty I would have prefered it if it had just been concentrating on Wall-E cleaning up the earth XP

The Dark Knight: Saw it 6 times and loved it all the more. It was fantastic and both Christian Bale and Heath Ledger were amazing. I have nothing bad to say about it, by far my favourite film of the year so far.

  • The Dark Knight - Epic film; best I've seen.
Indiana Jones and the Curse of the Crystal Skull - Went to watch for mate's birthday; was pretty good but it was very predictable.
Prince Caspian - One of my favourites series so of course I watched it. It failed compared to the book, though.

    I don't watch many films, so, =/

Fwee, I've seen a lot of movies this year.. I can't even remember them all xD

    • Wall-E. Which is/was a lovely film :>
    • Hancock. Too bad he turned good in the end, it was fun to see a superhero not being so .. hero-ish :B
    • Kun Fu Panda.
    • 10,000 BC. Loved the effects.
    • Prince Caspian. Sadly enough I can't remember what it was about since there was this dude in front of me continuously asking my phone number. :/
    • The Dark Knight, which was kewl.
    • The Simpons Movie. I almost laughed myself to death. But it wasn't that funny anymore when I watched it for the second time :<
    • Mummy 3. The elements were cool.
    • Casino Royale. I love the actor who plays James Bond in that movie :3
    Those are the ones that I can remember, lul n_____n;

The two I remember seeing right now are The Dark Knight and Iron Man, and both movies were completely awesome (I preferred Iron Man over The Dark Knight, but that's mainly because I'm not a big fan of Batman anyway).

Two nights ago, though, I saw Mean Girls for the very first time. :/

  • Hrm... Let's see...
Iron Man: Great start to the summer movies and SLJ was awesome in the ending.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: Not the best Indiana Jones, but still better than Temple of Doom and damn was it amazing just to see Marion and Indiana do their thing again.
Harold and Kumar goes to Guantanamo Bay: Almost better than the first, no longer just a stoner movie, it was absolutely amazing and so was NPH.
Speed Racer: Saw it on my birthday, wasn't my first choice and was on a casual date... so kinda embrassing, but it was a great movie just because I love Speed Racer.
The Dark Knight: What can I say? Ledger was amazing and everything felt just so real... That was the scariest part of all.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe: It was ok, I was a slight fan of the series, I kinda got into it towards the end. More like just a stand alone episode of the show than a theatrical release. Not my favorite ending.
Pineapple Express: A stoner flick mixed with Hot Fuzz, made it hilarious.
Tropic Thunder: Didn't want to see it, but so funny! I couldn't figure out who the fat bald guy was until he took off his glasses and I figured it out from his crazy eyes.
Burn After Reading: SO F*ing Hilarious!!! They took the grusome deaths from No Country for Old men and just added hilarity with an all-star class.
Hancock:classic 4th of july movie... nothing more, nothing less.
Get Smart:Steve Carell was really good as Maxwell Smart, I could not of thought of a better role for him to play. It was funny with some action and a very sexy/grown-up Ann Hathaway
You Don't Mess With the Zohan: Seeing a fish up Adam Sandler's ass was not something I enjoy seeing, but the movie got a lot of laughs out of me.

And that's what I've seen so far this year. Wow i see too many movies in theater...

  • Actually this past week I got the chance to watch Death Race and Mirror's. Death Race was a good movie and very easy to understand. Mirror's on the otherhand was confusing at the beginning and confused at the end.
