View Full Version : WWII: Frontline Assault in Europe (PG-16/R)

September 23rd, 2008, 1:27 PM
Order of the Day: June 6, 1944

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
- Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

The Year is 1944.
It's been 5 years since the war, which would soon be known as the deadliest war in the history of mankind, began.

It all began when Hitler, dictator of Germany invaded Austria, and Czechoslovakia. Italy and the Soviet Union formed an alliance with Germany as well, this was the origin of what was to be known as the Axis.

The world grew concerned and asked Hitler to stop invasions. He refused and invaded Poland. Almost immediatly, Great Britian, France, Canada, Austrailia, and New Zealand declared war on Germany. WWII had begun.

America at first was nuetral, butsent supplies to it's allies battling the Axis, and built it's army.

Within a year, France fell to Germany, Germany broke the peace pact between them and the Soviet Union, and placed an alliance with the now growing Empire of Japan. Great Britian was held at bay with constant night bombings over London. Almost all of Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa were in the Axis control.

In 1941, Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, an American naval base. America and Britian declared war on Japan, in turn, Germany declared war on America.

Now it's 1944, and the time for Europe's independence has come!

Right now we are launching the largest full-scale invasion since Kublai Kahn's invasion of Japan in 1281.

You are an infantry unit, about to take part in this invasion. You are about to land on Omaha Beach in Normandy. Each of you have your own strengths and weaknesses, your beliefs and morals, your skills, and emotions. You all are unique in every way. You are all required in this unit to help achieve a victory in Normandy, free France, and eventually see an end to the Nazi rule in Europe itself. Go out there, and give them hell trooper!

1. There will be a large amount of alcohol, smoking, violence, blood and gore, profanity, and peril in this RP.
2. Godmoding may happen on VERY RARE occasion. It must be approved by the GM (me) and will 95% of the time be denied. It's probably best not to use it at all.
3. Late commers wishing to join this RP must post their character in the OOC Thread and have it approved by the GM before any posting what-so-ever!
4. Gender of your character will be enforced as a male, not because I'm sexist, but because no women served in the armed forces during 1944. Sorry.
5. Have fun in this RP, it's very broad and can be experimented with in some very good ways!

Intro Post:

James felt sick. The boat ride to Omaha Beach was somethin ghe could live without. The boat was no larger than a tug boat, was rough against every wave that hit it, and was packed with soldiers (50-80 each).

If that wasn't enough...the weather was just perfect. It was no warmer than 50 degrees, foggy, and the ocean spray made you wet and colder.

James felt the sick feeling return to him, and with little warning, out came his breakfest, out of his mouth and onto the boots of another soldier standing next to him.

"Hey, you little ****! Drop that **** somewhere else!" he yelled.
James was about to apologize, but the captain was now bellowing orders to them. Everyone gave the captain their attention.

"Okay ladies, listen up! We are just about to land in the target area! Once we land, get your ass covered. This is no walk in the park! The beach is open, and there are not many obstacles to cover behind. Take advantage of whatever cover you have! Once on the shore, go to your assigned position on the beach, keep the sand out of your weapons!"

"SIR YES SIR!" The soldiers cried as one.

"Also note: not all of you will make it out of this battle alive. This is one battle that will easily lead your to your death bed, but if you even think about runnin gout on me, I swear to God I'll put a ****ing bullet in your head. No one deserts! Do I make myself clear?"

"Clear the ramp in 60 seconds!" The boatsman cried over the motor of the boat.

James was starting to hear artillery fire. Explosions were sounding every second now. Shells began impacting the water around them, startling him and many other troopers. One shell hissed over them, and impacted with another boat off to their right, sending both metal debris, and human debris into the air and down into the cold water below.

The boat motor died down and the ramp opened, revealing Omaha Beach, strewn with barbed wire, and dotted with black craters, and guntowers, which were already erupting in a frenzy of bullets.

"CLEAR THE RAMP! CLEAR THE RA-" The Boatsman never finished his sentence. A bullet ripped through his face, sending him into the shallow water below. The towers fired more into the boat, killing soldiers standing there, James was right in that line of fire!

"GO GO GO!!!!!" was the last thing James heard before jumpin over the side of the boat, into the cold shallow water beneath him. He had narrowly escaped death, as the bullets continued ripping into the boat, killing any soldier, that was not fast enough to jump over the boat in time...

This seems interesting I may end up participating, but I see that you have one problem... at the time of WWII there was no United Nations, it was founded after WWII...

I believe Eisenhower meant the Allied Nations currently battling the Axis.
It's his speech, not mine...

BigWig, you are accepted, but can I ask you to be a bit more detailed on your intro post? I forgot to put mine up, I'll do that right now and hopefully provide an example for all who wish to join.

"Get ready men!" yelled one of the Lieutenants as he looked back toward his platoon, so they could hear over the noise of the boat's engine which had to get it's way past against the waves that sprayed up into the boat. "We'll be landing under fire so find whatever cover possible!"
"Sir Yes Sir!" said the soldiers that were at the the front of the boat together in reply.

"45 seconds to ramp!" the boatsman yelled when all of a sudden a machine gun begins firing from one of the towers, cutting down many soldiers as Martin with rifle in hand had soon after cleared the ramp jumping off from the boat when one other rifleman who managed to leave the boat next to Martin also had gotten out. GO! GO! GO!" Lieutenant Jones had ordered as each man that was able got off the boat fast, one after the other walking through the cold water in order to reach the shore.

Martin ran up the beach with the unknown Private, taking what little cover there was when he heard rifle rounds being fired further in, obviously from one of theirs. Knowing they had to get off Omaha Beach, Privates Westman, Richardson and several of the other soldiers who were behind the beach obstacles, braved the danger and aimed their rifles to fight their way through the defences, running from one 'hedgehog' to the other heading up the beach almost in a zig-zag pattern.

As both squads got closer on the two machine gun nests that were positioned directly ahead, Martin who was in first squad laid down fire with second as they both moved onward, splitting up towards each machine gun nest to deal with the german machine gunners who were still firing away at the craft that were still unloading soldiers as well as a few Sherman tanks which were coming ashore up and down the beach firing their 76mm guns at the enemy fortifications which did good for the american soldiers there, three of which would shoot to kill any enemy that may come out from the fortification.

Chad stepped out onto the deck."Private Winters! Prepare to drop speedboat number 01" One of the Seargent's said as he walked past Chad.Chad ran over to the speedboat that was numbered 01.He told everyone to get into it and he prepared to drop it.The ship anchored and Chad made sure everyone was in."Ok, Good luck guys, clear the way for the rest of us" He said as he dropped the boat.He saluted them as they sailed into the abyss.Chad walked over to boat numbered 02."Now its my turn" He said as he sat in the boat.He felt the slight nudge once everyone was in and felt the adrenaline rush when he boat lowered quickly. The seargent gave a briefing not long before the got onto the beach.

Eventually, they got onto land. They jumped over the side of the boat and ran onto the beach. They were met with a volley of gunshots. They saw the men from boat number 01 pushing up very hard so he decided he would run and help them...

RP Starts!

"GO GO GO!!!!!" was the last thing James heard before jumpin over the side of the boat, into the cold shallow water beneath him. He had narrowly escaped death, as the bullets continued ripping into the boat, killing any soldier, that was not fast enough to jump over the boat in time.

The water was shallower than he thought, only reaching up to his chest, his pistol would probably need to dry out before he could use it again, but it didn't matter. He'd only used the pistold in combat less than 10 times.

He began wading fast towards the beach, along with other soldiers, some he knew, most he didn't. The towers continued raining their deadly barrages of bullets onto anything that moved on the beach. One soldier next to James was shot in the upper cest, he fell back into the water, causing the sea around him to turn crimson. James waded faster. Adrenaline was flowing at it's fullest now.

Finally he reached the beach, the waves already red with blood, and dead fish and human body parts already washing ashore. He saw the Captain Burton bellowing orders in his direction, however with the constant artillary fire, it was almost impossible to hear.

"Private Loroll, do you hear me, God-dammit?!"
"Oh for the f-" the rest of his swearing was drowned out by explosions erupting from beyond the towers.

"I need you to give Lieutenant Jones some covering fire! Do you hear me, soldier?!"
"Sir yes sir!"
"I want you to aim as best as you can into those towers, it won't be easy, but give them enough fire, ossibly take out a few gunners, and get them out of their current position, they're being hit hard!"

More explosions, and a trooper just 4 yards away was nothing more than a black crater and body parts.

"Si yes sir!"

James ran as fast as he could. The air was filed with the stench of blood, burning flesh, and the screams of mortally wounded soldiers, some which called for their mother. James tried to block it all out and run towards the now deadly area where Lieutenant Jones and his squad was.

September 25th, 2008, 3:13 AM
Pinned down behind the hedgehogs, Martin and most of first platoon including Lieutenant Jones when he told the soldiers to the left and right of him what they were going to do.

"Right, Second squad, you will provide cover fire while Third will hook right to get to the base of that first machine gun tower. I'll be up the middle with First. Go!" he yelled trying to get his voice over the din of the artillery.

With that said Private Richardson, helped by Martin set up the 30. caliber machine gun resting it on the hedgehog since there was no time to set up the tripod. With a hand signal given by the Lieutenant the machine gun soon opened up firing up at the tower while another machine gun had been doing the same thing on another beach obstacle to their left.

"Pour it at 'em, let 'em have it, Come on!" the Lieutenant yelled to soldiers providing cover fire as he got to his feet with his First squad at the same time Third were already starting to move, hooking right as planned all running fast to avoid the hail of gun fire.

It seemed like forever before they got to the tower and outside of the machine gun's arc of fire after which Martin, Private Richardson and the Lieutenant Jones were able to open fire at the gap in the tower, with their M1 Garand rifles and a M1 Carbine fired by the Lieutenant respectively bringing down the German soldiers, which was followed by a thump-like sound onto the floor of the machine gun emplacement above as a distinct metallic 'ping' sound came from the rifle carried by Westman and Richardson, which meant the clip had ejected and both of the Privates had soon inserted a fresh clip of ammunition to be always ready in this battle.

"Winters, Loroll! Clear the second gun tower!" "GO!" the Lieutenant yelled the order. "Take whatever men you need." He also used a series of hand signals to communicate what he said from his position to have them stop that last tower, before Lieutenant Jones's 1st platoon could make their way to their assigned beach positions.

September 25th, 2008, 7:55 AM
James, who had just arrived, heard the order, and acknoledged with a nod.
Machine gun fire was still in the air, and the hedgehogs were not always enough cover.

More boats were ariving, however some exploded when impacted by the artillary shells still firing from beyond, and most soldiers in the boats were cut down under the hail of machine gun towers. They were at the moment, fighting a losing battle, but orders were orders.

James signaled to some of the squad.
"Let's go!" They started running, the beach was huge, and German reinforcements from the back were appearing over the hill. James ran, but fired his machine gun up at the hill cutting down some troopers, but not as many as he hoped. The air bombing was not as effective as they were hoping it would be. Soldiers were scattered, and not knowing what to do.

They ran, then they had to stop. Their entrance was blocked. THey had reached the sea wall. Now they needed bangalores...and they didn't have any.

September 25th, 2008, 12:46 PM
Chad heard the order."Sir yes sir!"
Chad stopped as they came to the blocked entrance. He looked around and saw ladders leading up onto a ledge. He also noticed there was an entrance to the tower on the ledge."Loroll, there is an entrance up there" He said pointing up to the ledge."I'll go up first" He said as he climbed up the ladders. When he managed to get upon the ledge he was met with a volley of shots from above."Take Cover!" He shouted when he saw a plane fly overhead. The plane released a volley of shots aswell as about a dozen paratroopers."We got company!" He shouted as he started firing at the paratroopers.

September 26th, 2008, 9:48 PM
Paratroopers? F***. It was a risky move by Germans...

James fired a few times in the air at the troopers, hitting some, making them nothing but a floating corpse.

"Your gonna have to take care of them, there's not that many! I gotta get some soldiers with bangalores up here! Without them," he said, turning and firing his gun at a nearing trooper, "we can't breach the sea wall, and we'll be pinned here! Hold them off!"

Then James ran off, firing in theiair as he ran. He found CAptain Bodom. "Sir!" He said crouching behind him. "Loroll here, Sir."

"Private, I told you to go help Lieutenant Jones!"

"Did, sir! He sent me over to the sea wall, we don't have any bangalores! We need bangalores, or there's no hope of a breach! The squads takigncare of some paratroopers, but we need those bangalores ASAP! Do we got any?"

"Sergeant! ring the bangalores up the the sea wall! Move it!"

"Yes sir!"

September 27th, 2008, 6:13 AM
"Ok, Loroll" Chad said as he jumped off the ledge and fired at the paratroopers.

"They are coming in fast!" He shouted as the rest of the squad started firing along with Chad.Suddenly another plane flew over and more paratroopers started coming down.

"We gotta retreat, theres too many of them!" He shouted as he ran behind a small wall that was broken in places.

"This will be a hard war" He said as he reloaded his gun.

Paratroopers. Great.

Taking initiative into his own hands, the lupine known as Damian Barrett - Snake to his buddies in the 101st Infantry - sounded off a few shots with his Thompson, taking down at least two of the mob of Paratroopers raining down on them. They seemed so out of place to begin with, parachuting onto a beachhead assault, that they seemed as confused as was Snake. He used this to his advantage, pelting several other troops with his gritted nine-millimeter lead.

Snake had little idea what to do in this situation to begin with, but now he was utterly clueless. Strapping himself down against what little sanity he had left, the young Corporal opened fire with his Thompson, hoping at the least to give covering fire to those who needed it. He forced himself to keep from cringing his muzzle and displaying any sign of loss of morale to these Nazi scum, as the aggrivating scent of dirty, infected wounds and ripe corpses filled his olfactory gland to the breaking point. One paratrooper hit the sand, and as the wolf's eyes followed the corpse's arc of descent, horror overthrew every logical thought and replaced rational reasoning with dirty, dark fears.

The beach was infected, polluted with human corpses. In some distinct detachments of marines, Snake had discovered that corpses were beginning to be used as shields, as if the dead could still serve the living. Putrid, stinking death filled the air, almost causing the wolf to vomit. Where he should have seen soldiers clinging valiantly to life, gallantly beating back the axis oppressors, he saw men carrying their own arms away from an encounter with an MG42, or others clinging to their helmets beneath shelter and hoping to whatever Gods they believed in that they would be safe.

Suddenly, the world faded into an inky, flaky whiteness. Ringing shot through his ears, and his helmet danced off of his head, revealing it for a clean sniper shot; before Snake knew what was happening, he was on the ground, unable to move. It was at least a minute before he regained his composure enough to crawl the remaining few yards to the sea wall, clutching his helmet to his head. A shot from one of the towers had managed to stray and hit him square in the helmet, and by luck, the bullet ricocheted in another direction to leave the wolf unharmed. His lupine sense of smell kicked in again, and fear was the first thing he could place. Humans in fear... Their sweat and baited breath were as clear as the morning was foggy on Omaha Beach today.

With the confused paratroopers at length from each other in detached shambles across the beach, their threat was quickly fading. Snake was almost forced to turn away as he looked back at the chaos scraping across the beachhead; the 101st was nowhere to be found, and equipment seemed rather stretched, strangely enough; either some of the US troops were too scared to fight, or they were running low on ammo. At either measure, the battle had come at an impass, with more and more marines flooding in to replace those previously killed while remaining weapon-silent as the Germans pounded into them, ripping through their armorless torsos.

A landmine exploded nearby, causing Snake to drop prone and immediately raise his M1 from the strap over his shoulder, pointing wildly in the general direction of the blast as his paws shook violently... Until he realized that it was the man he'd met during breefing, named Loroll. The wolf lowered his weapon to his hip and got to his feet clumsily, gripping the base of the rifle with white knuckles. As Loroll approached, he asked one simple question, not necessarily for the sake of saving energy, but because he could barely put words together after the sniper hit that had stunned him previously.

"What the hell are we waiting for out here?! Where's the ****ing bangalores?!"

September 29th, 2008, 6:11 AM
Loroll Ran.

The sea wall just a few feet away. Explosions were everywhere, along with the corpses and body parts of many friends.

THe air was filled with the sound of gunfire and cries of dying or wounded troopers.

"I wanna go home!"
"Mama! Help me! AHHHH!!!!!!"

"Where's the f***ing bangalores?!" the trooper known as Snake shouted over the gunfire.

The other troopers following Loroll made it to the sea wall. Out of the original 8, 5 made it.
"Heads up!" Loroll shouted. "Bangers coming your way!" They began handing the long pipes down the line of soldiers. When they reached the fuse, the put it in position.

Troopers began to take cover away from the bangalore.

"FIRE IN THE HOLE!" the engineer shouted one last time, before igniting the fuse and shoving it toward the sea wall.

Then it exploded, the sea wall was gone.

"Move up to the base of the towers! MOVE!" It was Captain Bodom, he somehow managed to make it through the beach.

"To the towers! NOW!"
