View Full Version : What is the most common name to you?

July 26th, 2009, 12:04 AM
Out of all the names you hear of daily, which one seems to be the most common to you?

For me... Jess/Will. XD;

Jess is common in both IRL and online.

July 26th, 2009, 12:07 AM
Um... Cassandra and other names that can be shortened to Cassy and the like.
Other very common ones are Tim, Chris, Matthew, Nick, Ashley, and Emily.

EDIT: Oh, and names similar to Caty.

July 26th, 2009, 12:16 AM
Sam and Chris are the names that I seem to come across the most.

July 26th, 2009, 12:19 AM
The most common name in the year I was born, in the UK, is Emily.

I know about 7.

Girl's name: Ashley
Boy's name: Jonathan

I have so many friends who are named Ashley and so many more friends who are named Jonathan. Hell, once one Jonathan moves away, another one comes... from what I can tell.

John Smith.

It's a very common name and through my life I've met about...10 or 15 of them, it's interesting now that I think back on it.

July 26th, 2009, 12:37 AM
Michael, William, John, Lisa, and a lot of other names I can't think of. :[

July 26th, 2009, 1:04 AM
Kim, I met 15 of them, the 5 are my friends and it's quite confusing when I call them.

July 26th, 2009, 1:06 AM
Jess, I know heaps of them :O.

Like me.

July 26th, 2009, 1:08 AM
Tom/Thomas. There were four in my form of thirty in my first five years of secondary school alone. o.o There must have been about seven or eight in the whole year.

Lucy Lu
July 26th, 2009, 1:19 AM
Ashley, John, Jennifer, Lucy(my name, lol), Joe, Gloria, Andy, Carmen, Crystal to name a few. I swear there are so many employees working where I am with those names. And I know most of them too. Sometimes it gets confusing to figure out which is which. I could tell which one by their last name or their face. Those are some of the common names I came about. There is probably more, but that is all I can think of.

July 26th, 2009, 1:37 AM
David. I know a lot of Davids. It's hard to keep track of them all :(

July 26th, 2009, 1:41 AM
Male: Chris, Mat, John, Micheal
Female: Jess, Jenny, Emily

July 26th, 2009, 2:59 AM

Well IRL I have *counting* 4 friends called Tom (if not more) in my year and I'm pretty sure I know a HELL of a lot of Daniels (two have the same first name & last name and they're both in my year, completely unrelated 0_o).

July 26th, 2009, 3:33 AM
John is a common name for me, also Sarah! I know so many people called Sarah in my college

July 26th, 2009, 3:39 AM

I have to start numbering the Mikes/Michaels I know IRL/online.

July 26th, 2009, 3:40 AM
Jack is a very common name here.

Around 8 in my year called Jack....Maybe more.

Emily and Ashley are the more common female names that I see, too.

July 26th, 2009, 6:20 AM
John Smith.

It's a very common name and through my life I've met about...10 or 15 of them, it's interesting now that I think back on it.
Haha, there's a John Smith here that's been in a good few of my classes lately.

Growing up, I know every other girl in my grade was named some form of Emily, Sarah, Brittany, or Katherine/Katie. All the guys were John, Jake, Joseph, or Chris.

Here, I dunno. There's a lot of variety in names here in my college. Out of the above names, Chris is the only one I encounter a lot if only because I pay more attention to it due to strong feelings for someone by that name. I've had a few teachers named Kathy or Cathy, though, and there are still some Johns floating around. Matt/Matthew is one I've seen a few times, too.

July 26th, 2009, 7:57 AM
Jaime, Ryan, Patrick. A couple of my friends have the same name.

.little monster
July 26th, 2009, 1:07 PM
I always here the names Troy and Tracy. >:

July 26th, 2009, 1:23 PM
I find that there are more people with the name John, than any other name. It's especially maddening, since my name is John as well, you can imagine how annoyed I get if someone doesn't nickname me quickly when someone else with the name John is around. XDDD

I literally expect some nickname to be coined when I'm around another person named John for either me or the other person.

July 26th, 2009, 1:26 PM

I swear, there were at least five of them in my grade in public school at some point. And that was just my grade.

And Emily, I guess. Some people could say "Emma", but I don't see that name pop up AS much. Besides hearing people call it everyday, since it IS my name, after all

July 26th, 2009, 1:32 PM
Nica is the only name for me.

July 26th, 2009, 1:34 PM
I find that there's a lot of different names around.
Although, Tyler seems to be quite frequent at my school.

I've heard of at least 3.

July 26th, 2009, 1:36 PM
There's thousands of Austin's at my school :/

But Sam is common too, in both Canada and England from my experience (immigrant)

July 26th, 2009, 3:39 PM
I've seen wayyy too many Ashley's. (in all kinds of spelling too)
As far as boy names go, Austin is the most popular, but even that doesn't exceed the amount of Ashley's I've met over the years.

August 4th, 2009, 7:15 AM
Sarah/Sara/Sera, or Chris. With "Chris" being gender-neutural.

August 4th, 2009, 9:18 AM

There's actually a fair bit of variety in names where I live, but if I had to pick out the most common, they'd be Hispanic names in general, Brian, Brittany, Christopher, Jennifer, Jonathan, and Michael.
