  • Cherrygrove City - Mr. Pokémon's house

When I arrived in Cherrygrove, I was immediately hooked into a tour of the town by a kindly, albeit pushy, older gentleman who proceeded to explain things like Centers and Marts to me. I was grateful for the reminder, but was pleasantly surprised at the end when he gave me a new pair of running shoes. They felt great once I got them on. I healed up at the Pokémon Center and began to go towards Route 30 when the tour gentleman hurried up to me and proceeded to award me with a map card expansion for my Pokégear. He said that every young trainer should have one of those and couldn't understand why my mum had forgotten it, but he had one and was happy to give it to a nice young trainer like myself. I kindly thanked the man for the gifts and continued on to Route 30.

Route 30 held quite a few brave rattatas, but Cyndaquil was raring to go and grew quite a bit from those rattatas. We made it to Mr. Pokémon's house just before midnight, I knocked, hoping I wasn't waking the man. He answered pretty quickly and didn't look too tired at all. It appears that he was still super excited about his discovery. He invited me in and showed me what appeared to be a Pokémon egg with these weird colors and shapes on it, I'd never seen an egg like that before though the markings did resemble those patterns found on the super rare Togekiss. We were so involved with the egg I almost didn't notice Mr. Pokémon's other guest. The Famed Professor Oak was also there, I could hardly believe that I was able to meet the great Professor Oak. He was just as jovial and lighthearted as Elm and Mr. Pokémon, it gave me Butterfrees in my stomach. After we were done discussing the Egg, I began to gather my things so that I could begin the trek back to New Bark Town so that I could relay all of the findings to Prof. Elm when Mr. Pokémon told me that it was nearing 3am and that he would feel better if I set out in the morning. So I kipped on the couch and prepared to set out at dawn.

    Back to New Bark Town

I woke up earlier that usual, but that didn't seem to phase anyone in the house, Mr. Pokémon was already up and bustling around the kitchen and Professor Oak was reading over his latest script for his usual radio show while sipping on some coffee. They each greeted me in turn, Mr. Pokémon offered me some of the breakfast he was making. As I finished eating, Mr. Pokémon brought the egg we were all so intrigued in and set it on the table. At first I thought he was just going to look it over with me again, but then he asked if I would take it back to Elm for him. I was nearly flabbergasted, He wanted to entrust an egg of utmost scientific importance with a mere child like myself? He understood my look of incredulity, and explained himself. He knew that the egg needed to be studied more carefully, but he didn't have the instruments that would allow him to do that, but Professor Elm did. The fastest way to get the Egg safely to New Bark Town was to entrust it to me. He also explained that after I had gone to bed, He and Professor Oak stayed up just a bit later and discussed this very matter. Professor Oak had utmost confidence that I could complete this task perfectly. I agreed to do my best and deliver the Egg to Professor Elm and finished up breakfast. As I went to leave Professor Oak Stopped me and handed me a little Palm sized device, instantly I knew what it was. It was a Pokédex, but I wasn't supposed to receive one until the start of my journey. I proceeded to ask him about it, but he simply said "You have proven yourself ready for this. Use it well". Before I could say another word, he left on his way to Goldenrod City. It took a few minutes before Mr. Pokémon noticed that I was standing in the doorway, he chuckled lightly and reminded me of the task at hand for me to complete. I strode out into the morning sunshine and headed back to Cherrygrove City.

I made it back to Cherrygrove with a couple new battles under my belt. Cyndaquil was in top form, I could tell by the exuberance that Cyndaquil had grown even stronger. We stopped in at the Pokémon center to heal before route 29, Nurse Joy was in a pleasant mood, but she seemed preoccupied with something. As I left town, I was met by this incredibly rude boy, he looked to be slightly oder than I was, who challenged me to a battle. He sent out a Totodile who was obviously new to him. I wondered if he had gotten it from Professor Elm and was just setting out on his Pokémon journey. His naivety to challenge anyone who just happens to walk past, combined with his inexperience battling told me that he was very new to the battling scene. Cyndaquil won handily, to the incredulous looks of this boy. He simply couldn't understand why his Water type Pokémon lost to a fire type. While it was true, he did have the type advantage, what he lacked was any experience in battling which was something Cyndaquil and I had gotten a good dose of. He walked a short ways before he begrudgingly came back and offered a congratulatory handshake. He then bolted off towards Route 30.

I returned to my task of delivering the Egg to Professor Elm, we arrived home in New Bark Town around noon, just in time for lunch. I stopped in at home and saw that despite mum not knowing whether I'd even be home or not she had made a sandwich for me. I thanked mum and ate the sandwich on the way up to the Professor's Lab. As soon as I had entered the Lab I was surrounded by Police officers and Growlithe. They asked me many questions that I barely heard. I stated that I was a friend of the Professor's and was delivering an important piece of research to him. They led me up to the professor who was distraught and talking with another officer. I heard parts of the questions. They asked him some details about a burglar who made off with one of the Professors Pokémon. The professor listed off some of the attributes he could remember: Black clothes, Long red hair, snide remarks about items in the lab. I recognized these as attributes that also described that rude boy I had battled outside of Cherrygrove. I politely asked the Professor what was stolen. When he answered that a Totodile was taken, I exclaimed "I battled a trainer like that!". Almost all of the Officer's in the immediate area shifted all attention to me, and asked if I caught his name. I was about to answer when my new neighbor, whose name I still hadn't asked, rushed in and told the Officers that she heard that a suspect matching the Professor's description was seen on Route 30. They quickly jotted that information down and returned their attention to me. I thought about it for a minute and remembered that the Boy had told me that he was going to be 'The greatest trainer ever' and that I should remember his name. I told the police that he had said his name was Bernard, though to me it sounded like a pseudonym more than his real name, they wrote what I said down anyway, thanked us for out time, and left to pursue the lead on Route 30.

The professor was still a little distraught, but retained his composure after a bit. He asked me what the big discovery was that Mr. Pokémon had found. In answer I handed him the Egg that had been entrusted to me. He staggered backwards a little and placed the egg on a table. He was speechless. He kept looking back and forth from the egg to me and back. He finally said in a surprised tone, "He gave you this Egg to bring to me?" It was then that I regaled all that had happened at Mr. Pokémon's home. When I showed Professor Elm the Pokédex that Professor Oak had given me, he quickly took it analyzed it and gave it back. Apparently the Pokédex I had was a brand new model that Oak had just finished and was still in the process of making available to new trainers. Elm sat down heavily at the table with the Egg on it. The egg wobbled slightly. After a long pause, Elm spoke again. "It's finally begun. By the act of entrusting you with a Pokédex Professor Oak has begun your Pokémon journey. It is up to you now to decide with path you want to take. You are free to choose to become a Breeder, Trainer, or Co-Ordinator. My advise to you is to choose the path that makes you most happy. If you would like you may keep that Cyndaquil, it seems that over this trip you two have bonded." With those words Professor Elm proceeded to explain about the Johto League and how, in each major town or city there was a Gym and a League certified Leader that I must earn a badge from in order to compete in the Johto League Championships. He also explained that the nearest Gym would be in Violet City and that it would be wise to consult my mother before heading out on this journey. As a final word, Professor Elm said that he would call me if he found anything intriguing about the egg.
