So, ANZAC day is this week, Thursday I believe, and there was a piece on the news about the Battle of Coral. I've never heard of this, one of the most important battles of the Vietnam War for Australians, and I never realised it happened.
When I was in high school, I replaced Australian Studies with Music, and I believe that has affected my knowledge of Australian History significantly. Everyone should have to learn of the sacrifices made to ensure our freedom, every last one of them, no matter what other subjects you do.
When I am watching TV, and a piece about Australians fighting in wars, past or present, even if I get a little bored of it, I will sit and watch, resist the urge to pick up my phone and find something else to do. It is the least I can do for the people that have fought, died, got injured and were abused when they got home. Because they did it for me, and they deserve it.
