The blog prior to this came out too early because I clicked "Post now!" instead of preview and I couldn't delete it. (It's totally okay. It can stay) Soooo now I will take the time to Not only expand on why the mispronunciation in the last one ticks me off so bad, but also add more that just get. on. my. nerves.

An expansion on Paprika (Pap-uh-ree-ka) *Deep nasal inhale of violence suppression*

Honestly, I try to watch Guy in spite of that foul word that plagues my existence.... But it's difficult. I had never even HEARD of the word in question until he said it. And it bothered me ever since. I started to watch his stuff a little less, ya know, wary of that devil word. But my mom, who is entirely un-phased by it... She likes to torment me with it. And that just made my hatred grow. I mean if you're gonna say it to a friend, fine. Let them deal with it. As long as I don't hear it. But on national television?! No-no-no-no-no-no! It adds insult to injury to know he can say it correctly. I cheer when that word just happens to be pronounced correctly, however, because it does happen sometimes. only to be butchered once more the very next time he says it.

He's made my hatred for that word what it is. It... just no.

Now for other words that bother me(mispronunciations will be in parentheses and red, like so)

    Chipotle (Chip-po-ta-lay)

For the life of me I can't remember who I first heard it from.... Maybe that's a good thing. Because this one is well on its way to joining paprika in the list of words that hate me with every bit of their beings. It was someone who spent a lot of time around spanish/hispanic people who could say it right and thus they too had no right. I mean really. WHERE DOES THIS EXTRA SYLLABLE COME FROM!?
Whoever says it, you'd better hope I don't find out who you are... I will bludgeon.

    Poinsettia (Poin-see-eh-tee-uh)

I live in Boise, Idaho... and this particular one popped up not too long ago when BSU (the closest thing to a big-time professional team we're gonna get I swear....) was in the Poinsettia bowl. A lot of radio hosts were asking "How do your pronounce 'poinsettia'?" Because there are two ways people commonly pronounce it. Poin-set-uh and poin-set-ee-uh. But, when in the car with my father when he was taking em to school, we discovered that some bit of Boise's population thought it would be better pronounced as the above. Again, adding another COMPLETELY unnecessary syllable. I can handle the other two, because it's kind of a potayto-potahto tomayto-tomahto type thing (But really, who the halibut says it as potahto/tomahto anyways? I'd like to meet them in person) But that one? No. Just....just.... No approval from this tiger. It even bothered my dad, who is in the same spot as my mom with the whole paprika thing.

    Frustration (Fus-tray-tion)

Shining Raichu brought this up on my last one. And it is too true. I can't stand it. It was recently brought to my attention when I was watching an LP for.... I wanna say Crash Bandicoot 3... I know who it is, I just choose not to name him. And he kept saying "Gah this is so fustrating!" My reaction to this was as follows....
    1. Pause the video
    2. Rewind it back to that spot
    3. Play it again
    4. Listen to it to make sure I wasn't hearing things
    5. Repeat
    6. Repeat some more
    7. Storm off in FRUSTRATION
Seriously... the R in that word isn't for show, as much as you CLEARLY want it to be. There's no such thing as a silent "r".... USE IT WHEN YOU PRONOUNCE IT.

    Pronunciation (Pronounciation)

Misheard Whisper reminded me of this one... So let's get this all perfectly straight... You PRONOUNCE something correctly, it is of the proper PRONUNCIATION. It's the same term-ish. Are.... are we turning everything into pronouns? You're just putting the wrong emphahsis on the wrong syllahble. And you need to stop, because it is making everyone angry.

    Mature (Muh-too-r)

My Junior English teacher (time to see if anyone from my HS comes here!) at Timberline High School in Boise was the main culprit of this. Mr. Carnell is a pretty cool guy, albeit he reads in a bit of a monotone. I liked him. (to this day he STILL calls me Chelz-chan -nickname from a friend- when I see him. I thought he'd stop when the class ended) But one thing about him that irked me was that he'd say mature as "muh-too-r". I understand a lot of people say it like that and it's a correct method, but honestly, it bothers me, because most everyone else says it "muh-chur". So it sounds wrong to me....

There are many more words on this list, but I think this list is okay enough for now.

  • *raises hand* I, and most everyone else in New Zealand and the rest of the Commonwealth, I imagine, say 'to-mah-to'. Americans are silly. ~_^ Interestingly, though, I've yet to meet the fool who says 'po-tah-to'.

  • Oh I got a mention XD I feel so special.

Also, I am the fool who says "po-tah-to"

I also say "yoggurt" instead of "yoe-gurt" because I like to pretend I'm British like that :P

  • Huh how odd I've never heard one say Mature like your teacher did either...
To-mah-to reminds me of the Spanish pronunciation for the word- To-mah-te
