  • But according to the Mario history leaflet;

    a) They originally mapped "jump" to the up arrow and "attack" to the A button. If they had stuck to that, the gaming world would be SO different nowadays it's incredible, since most games have the A button for jumping because of that game.

    b) Goombas were the last thing inserted in the game because the testers though the Koopas were too hard for a first enemy. That's why their sprites look so weird, they barely had any bits left so they made a sprite and mirrored it to make it look like it was walking. Once again, imagine how would the Mario world have been without Goombas.

    Mario without Goombas is like PC without Went.

  • Of course they duplicate things back then, along with the many other mysteries of the games. Like the clouds and bushes being the same sprite, and the confusion of whether Birdo is a boy or a girl. :/

  • They really could have made some real difference in the gaming world.

    I wonder if it would feel harder to play with ^=jump and A=Attack, the same or even easier, if it would have been like that.

  • They were planning on having an attack button instead of having "A" as Jump? My God! And how hard were the Koopas when they first started enemy design? I know Bowser is powerful and rightly so, but those smaller koopas that you jump on and kick around are easy as heck!
