J Sainsburys PLC had the courtesy to accept my application to be a General Assistant, and now I've got a uniform and a spiffy name badge and everything. The job's a bit of a chore - stocking shelves in the fresh food section of the store for 12 hours a week - but the people I've met are very welcoming.
I had my induction a couple of weeks back, and met ten other people who were starting different jobs at the same time as me. I've seen a few of them since, which is nice, as I got to know them all and sadly few of our shifts overlap.
It gets me £5.30 / $8.70 / €6.20 an hour, or £254.40 / $417.60 / €297.60 a month. Terrible for a proper job, but fantastic for me as it's more money than I've ever had and will allow me to save up enough for my university fees by the time I start :)
It's extremely extremely extremely annoying to have to leave places early the night before work, but I do get a bit of a maturity kick out of saying "Sorry I can't stay late, I've got work in the morning."
Yay for my sort of entry into the adult world. :)
