    Mood: Too many games to play!

    War, war never changes. But the revenue of a company sure as hell did.

    If you haven't been living under a rock, then you would be well aware of how Bethesda's newest installment in the Fallout universe, appropriately name Fallout 4, released last week on November 10th. It has been announced by Bethesda that they have shipped over 12 million units of their game worldwide for day one alone, and subsequently "representing sales in excess sale in excess of $750 million." These numbers don't even account for digital unit purchases that can be found across Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PC.

    Daily Music - "The Wanderer" by Dion
    Spoiler:
    Fallout 4 is a post apocalyptic open world video game that came out on November 10th, 2015. Based in Boston, you can take on the role of a gender preferred character who emerges from Vault 111 after a nuclear catastrophe who must take on the role of surviving hordes of Feral Ghouls, Super Mutants, and Raiders alike in the pursuit of a goal that I will not disclose (wink wink.) On top of the norm of scavenging the wasteland for supplies, Bethesda has introduced a new gameplay mechanic of building your own settlements from the bottom up, scrapping debris as you go to collect building materials to use later on. Unlike past Fallout games, every in-game object has value to it as junk can be turned into building materials via workbenches scattered around the wasteland.

    Daily Comic - "Time Management" by Tim Buckley of Ctrl+Alt+Del
    Spoiler:
    In comparison, Bethesda's last giant game - the Elder Scrolls; Skyrim - shipped 7 million copies in the time span of 48 hours, with half of those games being sold within that time frame. While statistics have not be published as to how many of these 12 million units have been sold as of yet on opening day, Bethesda's titan game has set the record as the "most-viewed game launch for any game released so far." Humorously, as a side anecdote, the release of Fallout 4 led to a ten percent dip in Internet traffic to the porn site PornHub between the hours of 7AM and 12PM. It rose back to normal around noontime, although it dropped again significantly around 6PM where 9-5PM workers were expected to be getting home. Instead of doing the business, the site believed that Fallout 4 was the cause of the drop again.

    Daily Video - "Fallout 4 SPECIAL RAP" by videogame rapper Dan Bull
    Spoiler:
    Besides that humorous factoid, Fallout 4 is expected to be a huge success for video gaming, some already considering it to be a Game of the Year contender. However, with such a heavy lineup of games coming out now - including Rise of the Tomb Raider, Black Ops 3, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Halo 5 Guardians, and Star Wars Battlefront - as well as stellar games that came out earlier - Metal Gear Solid V, Bloodborne, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, and Until Dawn - one can definitely say that this unprecedented year is a year to remember for video gamers, and thus should be appreciated such. What about you guys? Have you gotten your hands on Fallout 4? What are your impressions of it so far? What do you think the Game of the Year is going to be? Comment below as I'd love to hear and discuss with you what you have to say about this topic!

  • I'm definitely not one of the shallow people who point at metacritic and say "Hey, the highest rated game is game of the year!" but I gotta note that Metal Gear Solid V is sitting at the top of PS4 charts right now with Witcher 3, Bloodborne and the like close by. Seeing as I love the game myself, that makes me happy. But I hold The Witcher 3 pretty damn close to my heart too (Played quite a bit of Witcher 2 and that was stellar - immediately became a fan. System can't quite run 3 so haven't played it yet...) and Bloodborne doing well both critically and commercially, being a From Software fan, makes me happy. <3;

    Fallout is a series I haven't touched yet tbh. As for 4, I've been hearing a lot about the bugs it apparently has. A game of that huge a scale is definitely bound to have some of those, obviously, but the game-breaking ones that some people have apparently faced so far are slightly worrying. But that's clearly not enough to hinder people from going in droves to buy the game so that's that :p

    Hey bud <3

    I'm curious if any past GOTY's were "buggy" when they first launched. I've plugged in about 10 hours on the Xbox One and I haven't had any frame rate drops, which has been one of the biggest complaints thus far on the console versions. The game definitely has a different dynamic than past games - the lighting of the game is a huge factor - but it's still enjoyable in my opinion. I don't think it will win GOTY personally; I'm praying for Bloodborne to win, and this is coming from an Xbox One user lol.

    If you're going to pick up the series, start with Fallout 3. It's a gem of a game. Avoid Fallout New Vegas just because that game is very barren comapred to Fallout 3; you'll have a better experience with the latter game.
