I have some news!
I am personally hoping for the best outcome of this potential situation. My personal life seems to have stabilized somewhat. Not that it was hectic before, but just very busy and it was susceptible to a lot of interference due to my family's situation - among other things. But, this is good news!
Pokémon: the Lost World never left my head, despite the time that has passed since it started and died. I never wanted to stop working on it; I never intended for it to turn out the way it did. However, with the growing stabilization of my personal life (through school and family) it has reminded me of what I love to do and what I loved doing. I truly want to resurrect my Pokémon project, though not in the same sense that it existed before.
I want to branch out and create a new way of experiencing and enjoying the world of Pokémon. In the time between Pokémon: the Lost World and now I have continually developed and refined many new ideas and features which, I believe, would drastically enhance Pokémon. To say that I'm eager to implement and realize these ideas would admittedly be an understatement.
However, let it be said that at the moment I am researching my options. When I first began work on Pokémon: the Lost World I utilized the capability of the Sphere engine - a javascript based video game engine. At the time it offered a lot of features and capabilities which dwarfed many engines, or, at least had the potential to. However, the Sphere engine is not something I intend to utilize. In fact, I would like to refrain from using any engines which are similar to Sphere, such as RPG Maker, etc. Only because they are very restrictive in terms of today's video games. Yes, it is convenient that engines such as RPG Maker XP have a gigantic pool of resources for creating Pokémon games, but the visual style and feel of them is severely constrained. And that's what I want to change.
I want to be able to convey my image of the Pokémon world in a way that compliments it best. I'm not quite sure what that means at the moment, but that is why I'm doing my research right now. Now, unlike before, there are many engines to choose from when it comes to developing a video game. My current goal, if I am to continue with this endeavor, is to define the key characteristics that I want this creation to focus on, and then, based on those characteristics, choose an appropriate engine that most compliments my ideas.
So let us hope for the best, shall we? If I choose return to Pokémon development, I will notify you. In the event that I do continue, I will keep you updated on my progress; when I decide on an engine and assemble an initial team of developers I, again, will notify you.
Thank you all for reading this! And again, let us hope for the best. I, more than you know, would love to return to this and continue what I desperately miss.
