UPDATE
So, I've started reading my first book. The novel of choice is 'Amazonia' by James Rollins, a science-packed spy adventure. The author, who is mostly known for his 'SIGMA Force' line of books, has a history in the scientific field - working as a veterinarian before pursuing writing.
Amazonia, so far, is a fantastic read. I'm not quite finished yet, but the action/adventure pacing of the book is keeping me on edge. There are always new developments, new twists, and his timing is perfect - just as you forget one minor fact it comes back to being important.
Set in the Amazon Rainforest, Rollins uses many biological references as well as including many interesting facts about the local indigenous indians - strangely, for an action novel, there is a lot of learning involved around cultural customs of these people and positive/negative connections between them and the outer-world.
So yeah! Worth a read :) Or hit the Author up in general, his SIGMA Force series has a number of cool topics, there's a book centered around ancient egypt and another focusing on secret nazi laboratories!
Meanwhile, in the movies department, I saw 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' on Wednesday. It was pretty bad, but what can you expect of a transformers movie? It looked pretty, fo sho, but silly cliches (whether present in other transformers media, or not) certainly don't help it's reputation.
Further information (spoilerrrs~)

Megatron makes it back again, but basically does nothing but run off???
Bumblebee vs. Stinger was quite short lived.
WHY THE DINOSAURS WHY.
So many loose ends and flaws.
