  • Whee, this is just too much darn fun, this game. Incidentally, this blog entry is LONG.

Music is still enjoyable - but in case there's a weak track, there's the GB Player item - which apparently plays music from the GSC games! AMAZING. 'Course you can only obtain it after beating Red and all, but the mere premise of that is awesome.

Anyways, after spending a bit of time looking for Prof Elm's Aide who ended up in the Mart, not the Centre, I made my way south. Got the Miracle Seed from the stalker who knew too much about what I had to do first and went onwards.

Everything up to Union cave is basically the same as it was in GASC, down to the location of items and NPC's teams, and I suspect what they say as well, for the most part. Got myself a Magikarp with the Old Rod and enjoyed watching it follow me. (It kinda slid, as if I was dragging it behind me with a leash XD)

Also met Freda of Friday who gave me a Poison Barb. Good to see that that group of 7 NPCs have returned to HG/SS. =D

Union Cave... looks pretty neat, especially in that parts are completely restructured (and trainers thrown into different positions as well). It follows the main pattern more or less, but nice to see some changes to it. Found a Shell Bell within it, although I tend to find that kinda 'meh' unless I'm fighting Chanseys. -_-

It was raining on the other side, but it seemed restricted to just that route, which is kinda a pity... I'd have liked to see weather effects extent into towns randomly, but oh well. New cut-scene with Kurt, I take it, and a Team Rocket guy, which involved large dialogue and Kurt running off. Went to town first and bought supplies, noted there were two Farfetch'd in the Charcoal guy's house, found an item in the log outside of it, enjoyed the sight of smoke coming out of the chimney, listened to the sounds of old sliding doors... ah, the attention to detail is great. =D Also went shopping - and noticed a delivery man giving me items. Turns out that he gives you what your mum buys you if you have her save your money. (Not that she does a good job with that =P).

Talked to Kurt, who seemed to had remembered his speech from GSC and ran off again. Went back and admired the new look for the entrance in the well (and the eye-catcher preview art of it as well). Kurt hurt his back, and asked me to beat the shizz out of TR. Didn't see that coming. Went and did so, and enjoyed the fact the final person there is an Admin of TR and hence has importance as a character (even had his own screen).

After saving the Slowpoke the same stuff happened - Kurt got healed by magic (my personal bet is that he ate a Slowpoketail) and thanked me, and teleported me back to his house, then gave me a ball and offered to make me more out of Apricorns YAY. Decided to celebrate by paying Bugsy a visit.

Her His new gym looks quite good, and the puzzle certainly decent (although admittedly pretty easy). Trainers again the same, just differently placed. Bugsy was ok - nothing too hard, with his Syther by far the bigger threat. Seemed to like escaping with U-turn when the going got tough for it.

After getting the badge, went and battled the Rival, and enjoyed more good rival music. =D Same team as before, I noted... then went to Ilex forest, and helped the Cut-man with his Farfetch'd. Both of them! New puzzle, which was decent and fun to figure out, but I do miss the small part from GC where it would when you solved the puzzle run into a tree first. XD

Got Cut, and made use of it - made my way to Headbutt man who was showing off his move by headbutting trees himself. XD Then encountered a Kimono girl, who made my Pokemon... walk away for a bit and say something, then she buggered off and left me wondering what she said to me.

Continued onwards, getting out of Ilex Forest. As a byside - the preview picture for places changes according to the time. Ilex forest's preview pic at night = prettttttttttttttttttty.

Went up past the Day-Care centre after owning trainers and stealing some of their phone numbers, and got stopped by the old man. Pseudo rival also appeared and showed me around. Gee, thanks. Her Marill still looks like it's been hyped up on coffee. Darn it, why can't my Pokemon be hyped up on coffee? Either way, the lack of the Odd egg was disappointing... especially after that screenshot. Oh well.

I liked Goldenrod's new take on the old tune - sounds neat. I went and got myself a bike and explored the place. Pseudo-rival appeared AGAIN what in the underground. I swear, that's the 5th time or something? Nice to see I has stalkers.

Coin case get, as well as a haircut! Glad they are back. Then had my picture taken by a cameraman there while...posing as a Team Rocket guy? How amusing.

Went and did some underage gambling as well. =D The music is ok there, although maybe not quite as good as the old one...idk. The slots were fun though - the Gamblord known as Clefairy now replaced by Smeargle. Tried it out and found out the following:
    Spoiler:

Went north before the gym, and battled some people - again the same trainers, in abouts the same postions. Headed up to the Sudowoodo tree and caught myself a Growlithe - decided I'd use it for once and put it in my team.

Then went and did a bug-catching contest! Ran the same way as the GSC one, with the same Pokemon, prizes (+ a Shed Shell for not placing - I tried it a few times for curiosity's sake) and ended up a with a Sun Stone in my possession thanks to my Scyther I caught. =D Decided to add that to the team as well. The National Park music is really nice - was also good to see the gap in the fence remained there.

Went back to Goldenrod then after some training of my new additions against the rest of the trainers there, and tried the GTS. Traded with myself to evolve my Syther into Scizor for the heck of it. =D Turns out it had Technician as well, so yay.

Then got the radio upgrade for my Pokegear so Whitney would actually go to her ym. Is it said I remember the exact order of the answers from GSC? =P

Whitney's new maze was pretty easy, have to say... her Miltank was a bit timely as well, but I got it in the end. (Found statusing twice (it had a Lum berry) and Intimidate from Growlithe to be helpful). Her Clefairy's Metronome's didn't help it though. (Mean look lol). Neat to see she still had her cry like in GSC and all...

Went and got myself a Squirtbottle and then talked to the gate person north of Goldenrod - he gave me a lv. 20 Spearow holding mail to deliever to someone - same mini-quest as in GSC. Couldn't get the mail off though to give to my Magikarp though... oh well. I went and made Sudowoodo dance under water, caught it, and delivered the dumb bird after getting aa Berry Planter from a person observing my torture of Sudowoodo, clearly impressed. YAY.

Went to a mart and discovered my mum spent my money now on berries. And I can only feed them to my Pokemon! D=

Went back north and beat trainers there, now Sudowoodo was gone. Got a few more Apricorns as well, and a Magnet from the Sunday guy. Entered Ecruteak, pondered on how the music was nice, got myself an Itemfinder (looks neat when used - similar to the D/P/Pt one but more advanced-looking), talked to Bill, and that's where I'll leave it, methinks. =P

More...later, probably. Now comment telling me how long and boring this was. =P

  • Ah, but tell me this: Do Liz and Gina still give you their phone numbers? In G/S/C I enjoyed their phone calls more than anyone's... well, except maybe that stalker Juggler Irwin :P

Yes, they do! Everyone who gave phone nmbers give them again in HG/SS, actually - and also a few more, like gym leaders. =D

Also the Crystal part of that deal is back - in that they can also not only battle you but give you items like the Stones.
