Okay, if you have stalked looked at my profile, you would know that I'm a cashier in a grocery store. Well, let me tell you, IT SUCKS!!! You stand there all day, waiting for people to come in to your line, so you can act like you care and enjoy being there.

    Let me tell you...

It is terrible. Seriously, people are totally rude. I'm here to make some money and gain job experience, NOT tend to your every need. I am NOT your servant, so stop treating me like it. People are totally inconsiderate, rude, and just plain mean at some points. I have been called stupid, careless, and rude multiple times. WELL, you started it...

    And my favorite part?

The hours. Yeah, now that it is summer, all of the college kids have come back to work. "But Jake, doesn't that make you happy that you have less hours?" YES IT DOES!! Too bad when I get hours, they are on weekends, which ruins any plans that I have. OH, and I'm stuck working on the Fourth of July! Kill me, now -.-

    In conclusion...

Never work at a grocery store/register/retail in general. It makes you bitter about a lot of things in life.

  • I worked at a grocery store for my first job for about a year. I managed the Produce Section, I was a checker/cashier (which was an honor as typically only the most responsible guys got to do it), and I helped run every other section. For the year I was there most of my friends worked with me so it was pretty fun all the time. The worst part I'd say would have to be the downtime.

Now I'm working in specialized retail (I help run a Hydro Gardening/Brewing Store) and customers come in expecting you to know everything about everything and they get mad when you don't. It's not really that fair considering most of these customers know more than I do.

In short if you are good at your job retail can be rewarding because nothing impresses a customer more than good friendly service. However ya gotta get used to being treated like dirt for awhile first.

I feel for ya man, I do, but just be glad ya got a job right now.

  • The main difference there is that being a cashier is basically where everyone starts, no matter how intelligent/skillful a person is. It is just assumed. But yes, I'm happy to have a job, especially in the economy. I just hate it XD
