Hurricane Irene has the eastern coast of the United States in her cross-hairs. The Eastern Seaboard is going to get hit. Very hard. North Carolina is first in its path and every major city on the east coast will get in Irene's way. New York City might be hit the hardest not from the initial storm, but the water surges will easily flood New York City's subways.
As for me, this is the first major hurricane that I have experienced. All the major storms I have been through have been snow storms and that tornado that ripped through Hampden County in June. I live up in Hampshire County in Massachusetts. Even though Massachusetts is deep in New England, I saw how big that hurricane is and from the projected path of Irene, we're gonna get hit hard as well.
I don't live near any water and I live at a good elevation, but that doesn't mean we're in the clear. My house has a bunch of trees in the back that could easily fall on top of the house. So, I got a lot to worry about, never mind we'll lose power for a few days.
I hope that when Mom goes out shopping for supplies, we can still get the stuff we need like batteries, a new flashlight, food and water. That sort of stuff.
