  • If they move, kill 'em! Shoot 'em, shoot 'em!! That's what you do! Kill everything around you! Don't let anybody live!

Most video games these days are like that. It's either you or them in a massive shootout. And it's going to be you living in the end. Defeat is unacceptable. They are inferior. You are superior! It is genetically implanted in you over the years. That primal instinct kicks in when you play FPS or Grand Theft Auto IV. However, there are some games that have you try to suppress that urge to kill everything that moves.

Case in point, I fired up my neglected PlayStation 2 and popped in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for the first time in 4 years. Maybe more. I love the Metal Gear series. Sneaking around trying to remain undetected can be so fun at times. I forgot that the game is all about sneaking through an enemy filled area undetected and trying to kill soldiers will only get you in trouble fast. That's where my problem is.

I spent plenty of time playing games killing enemies it's to the point that if I don't cause mass hysteria, I get bored in a matter of minutes unless I cause havoc and get the bad guys after me. Being stealthy and avoiding confrontation is not a part of my gaming skill set. I need to kill everything that moves.

As soon as kill a few dudes, the guards know I'm around by now. They go into heighten alert and are on the lookout for me. And I end up waiting for like, 5 minutes for the alert to wear off and the guys leave before I shoot one again and the whole thing starts all over. I can see why Hideo Kojima doesn't reward for killing. It makes everything harder for me.

BUT I NEED TO KILL MOOKS! They are there to get pumped full of lead!!!! Although I will admit, I like killing guys when they least expect it, sort of like that Splinter Cell: Conviction lets you do. You sneak around, just waiting for them to turn their backs or come to you, then you sneak up and kill them silently!

I think I need to play another genre.
