So I decided that I'm going to do one of these daily blog things like Matt does, but I'm going to strictly post about music. So every day, I'm going to post a song I'm really into and encourage you guys to post what you think of the song. Except for today, where I'm going to post a few songs because today I'm going to post music from my all time favorite band...

    Summer Camp

I could literally post their entire discography here, but I'll only limit it to four songs that I think are a pretty good example of the sound they have.

The first song is the song that I first listened to that got me into them. Loved it at first listen. After I listened to this song, I was obsessed with them.

The next song just paints the best imagery. It tells a great story about what it's like to live in a town and also move away, and it's a great commentary on some of the suburbs that some of us lived in. Listening to this song makes me think of where I grew up and the resentment I had for it, but also the imprint where you live paints onto you regardless of how you feel about it.

The next song, I just really really like and I love the music video for it too. The lyrics kind of relate to the previous song in themes. I think anyone who ever dealt with some problems with their parents, no matter how small, or figuring out who they are can identify with this song.

And I don't have much to say about the last song I'm going to post. I debated between like six songs, but this was the longest and I like long songs, so that's the one I chose. There's a single version of this song where its shorter, but I like the full version a lot more.

Please post your thoughts on this band and check them out. They have two albums out (Welcome to Condale, and Summer Camp), and they just released an album for a movie they soundtracked (Beyond Clueless), and they have two Eps (Always, and Young).

  • The melodies of the songs are pretty good, but I'm not too keen on her voice. Something about it just doesn't settle too well with me - maybe it's too soothing/mellow for my liking. However, I will say this: Summer Camps' "Down" is a great song. I feel like she extends her vocal range a little bit more and coupled with that bombastic bass makes it a good jam I could see myself listening to often.

What about this song? She doesn't sing it, her husband (whose the guy in the band) sings it. And she sings background vocals.
