If you don't know what the title's from, why the hell are you here? Anyway, I just realised recently that I should blog moar :D So, I decided that I will now blog whenever the urge strikes me, without even considering whether people want to hear it (which they probably don't)
Anyway, I was just cruising Youtube when I stumbled across a little collection of all the opening themes and I thought "hmm, maybe people will care what I think about these. Actually, they won't, but let's tell them anyway." So here is what I think about all of the theme songs for no reason other than that I'm bored. If you want to actually get what I'm talking about, the video might be helpful.
1 - Pokemon Theme
Yeah, that's what the first one was called. Anyway, this one has all of the awesome nostalgia that you'd expect, but it's actually a great opening in its own right as well. Something I noticed though - there's one short bit where a few of the Pokemon are being carried by flying Pokemon. Pikachu is riding Pidgeotto (fair enough) Bulbasuar is holding onto Butterfree with its vines (fine) and ZUBAT is somehow carrying SQUIRTLE with its nonexistant legs. Seriously, just watch it and you'll see what I mean. So, this is awesome, but a little odd.
8.5/10 for sheer nostalgic goodness
2 - Pokemon World
Ah, yet more nostalgia. Less than the original, but its still there. However there are some pros and cons to this theme. Here's a con - Ritchie's in it. Yeah. Not so cool now, is it? Here's another - Tracy has of course replaced Brock in it. That would basically make it irredeemable if we didn't get Giovanni in it :D Seriously, he probably spends more time in the opening than he has in all of his anime appearances added together. Also, Meowth looks hilarious when you first see him in this theme. Watch and you'll see what I mean.
8/10 for a mixed bag
3 - Pokemon Johto
This one is my personal favourite. The theme is so damn catchy and, well, its aweome. And yes, I know I say awesome too much. Anyway, I just noticed something a little odd. There's the scene where the trio are running down a path, while Sentret run alongside them, before springing up onto their tails. However, you can see, briefly, something in the background, on the other side of the path, that looks distinctly like a Bonsly. Check it out yourself. Either way, this theme is just amazing and the video is pretty nifty too.
9.5/10 for being pure chocolate coated awesome
4 - Born to be a Winner
This theme can be summed up in one word - meh. It's just....recycled...and dull...and annoying...blargh. it doesn't even have any video oddities for me to point out. What an utter disappointment.
6/10 for being so incredibly mediocre
5 - Believe in Me
Y'know what's weird? I used to HATE this song. I hated it worse than Born to be a Winner. But now, I can't see why. It's an awesome song and the video is decent, especially one short clip demonstrating that Charard can fly at about the same speed Kingler can scuttle sideways. Ironically, the line "You'll never see us run away from a fight" plays as TR are shown, legging it the hell away from Delibird. Oh, and we get to see Farfetch'd though it is very much in the background. So overall, a great opening.
9/10 for being super special awesome
6 - I Wanna be a hero
Another epic opening. For example, at the very beginning, Treecko pulls off a Quick Attack against Vigolroth that is SO hard, they both fly so high into the sky that you can't see them. Overkill, yeah, but awesome overkill. This actually contains a few funny moments - Brock looking terrified as he flees a falling cave and Meowth's face. Oh, Meowth's face.
8.5/10 for being hilarity set to music
7 - This Dream
This is another that I used to hate. Unlike Believe in Me, though, i still don't really like it much. I just no longer want to set it on fire and laugh as it screams in pain. Like, its decent and Pikachu actually get's a rare moment where it looks cute again. Oh, and there's the little electric guitar riff that just happens to coincide with Medicham bobbing its head. It completely looks like its dancing like an idiot :P Ah well, its acceptable, but no more than that.
6.5/10 for being all silly and annoying
8 - Unbeatable
Ah, now this one is catchy. It's also quite long, but that's a good thing. I also like how Ash defies physics at the end to pull off that oh-so-common video game move - the double jump. The scenes they chose are pretty cool as well, especially the kinda epic ones of the masses of Pokemon. The song is just...well, I can't stop singing it now. It's that damn catchy. D:
8/10 for being TOO catchy
9 - Battle Frontier
This one is quite short, quite upbeat and it WOULD be quite nice...if I could stand the singer. I'm sorry, but he just sounds so incredibly nasal, especially right at the beginning. And on top of that, they duped me into thinking someone would finally remember Pidgeot. So, yeah, this was only ok by my standards.
7/10 for that singer
10 - Diamond and Pearl
For some reason, this seems to be hated by the fandom. Its also noticeably the closest to being a rap. Personally, I don't mind it. They kinda went overboard with trying to be 'cool' and it backfired, but it wasn't completely horrific and the video was at least pretty cool. Still, I can't rate it too highly because...well, it kinda sucks.
6.5/10 for being slightly okay
11 - We will be Heroes
This opening broke two records - it was the first to be sung by a solo female and was the first to include the credits. Both of these actually gave it a slightly more classy feel, if you know what I mean and it added a slight sense of maturity. Ironically, when the song goes "forever friends" we are treated to a shot of TR XD Anyway, I like this overall, except for one thing...the singer says "choo" instead of "you". Seriously, she does.
8/10 for being all grown up
12 - ~Battle Cry~ (Stand Up!)
This is a mixed theme for me. I really like the actual song and the video, despite being recycled, fits nicely. For example "Be brave" show us Buizel facing down Steelix and "if we come together as one" is followed by a shot of Aaron and Lucario. Unfortunately, they kinda messed up when they juxtaposed "We're friends for life" with Meowth getting pwned by Purugly. And then, there is the horrific ending. You knw what I mean. I just feel bad for Staravia and Grotle. Has Ash forgotten them or something? What a douche.
7/10 for a great theme ruined by its ending.
