So I just redid my profile. It was looking pretty outdated and boring. I figured that the black, while helping with visibility and readability of the profile, didn't really do too much about the overall aesthetics of my profile. Besides, it could really use some more colour variance.
So I shuffled around some colours, using my profile image as the colour guide, and, well, tweaked the profile to its current form. Despite not being able to use any other images, I do still try hard to make it look as good as possible - and make it versatile and enjoyable in any forum style, no matter what. This is also why I always set profile colours no matter how it looks.
Another thing is the fact that all text colour is slightly tinted. I wanted to add a touch of colour for the extra "zing" that my profile really needed. Comic Sans MS also helps in making the profile smoother in a way. The out-of-place blue hyperlink colour is now changed to a custom one, again based off the profile image colours.
A great blend of colours will do you much good towards a better-looking and much more readable profile. Do not be afraid to experiment - you might encounter setbacks, but don't give up.
I may do this from time to time, when I think that there is room for improvement. Besides, I'm also going to enter a profile contest anyway... Actually, I just did.
