Game music this time around, and not of the Captain Falcon type despite the title. However the game does include punching! I have a heck of a lot to pick from but I heard this recently and so decided it's worth the mention and all.
While you muse over what the game might be I'll mention that I'll link to a number of other songs worth listening to from the game, as to not link to them would be a questionable crime; after all the first tune featured is merely the title music for the game! But more on that in a bit.
Yep, Punch-out!! (Wii) is the game that comes with not one, but two exclamation marks. Golly!! This is the latest in a series which had a reboot a couple years back. Basically the aim is to control a character (Little Mac) and have him beat up everyone. It's not so much an exercise game on the Wii though; the fighting is all about timing and picking patterns in the opponent's strategy. (After all the first entry of the series was on arcades so the general idea is similar here). It's fairly amusing and does a lot of country stereotypes with its boxers.
Pretty upbeat title music, no? I like the use of trumpets in it and it's quite upbeat and exciting a tune. Which differs a fair bit from the game's actual theme. Each opponent in the game has their own song, which for fun is the same tune. Here's the typical standard version for this game which also makes use of trumpets:
It being reused might sound iffy, but it's not as boring as you think; for the most part they all sound pretty different in instruments, tempo, etc, and a lot are catchy. Here's an example which is a French version of the song, and also a disco take on it.
And for fun the Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! NES version of the song. That's right, Mike Tyson. He was the final boss. Anyways sometimes it's just hard to beat the old version of the themes.
