The 2DS

I am disappoint, Nintendo.

Good idea. Bad execution. Basically what I think of the 2DS.

The 2DS is not worth it compared to buying a 3DS for just slightly more.

I've actually wanted this for a long time. It's a massive $50 difference to pay for a feature you don't want if your options are between a 3DS and 2DS. I welcome it, and I will buy it!

It's intended to be a 3DS for children under 7 to bring in the younger audience so they can get into video games too. The reason it's so bulky and big is because they tend to break things easily and are far from careful. The hinges on the 3DS are very fragile so I'm sure a kid easily break them. Plus it's much cheaper so parents can afford it much better. No not 100 dollars cheaper but still a bit more affordable for the average low income parents. So for the target audience it works out pretty well I think.

Though I'm not too keen on getting one , but it's a good idea (despite how ugly it is) and I know i'm not forced to get one (everyone here should too obviously) so I'm still getting a XL. It's just for people who just want to have a 3DS without the 3D and who want something cheaper.

It's out the same day as Pokemon X/Y.

Now you got your reason. And Nintendo got their money.

It's really ugly. There has to be a reason for Nintendo to do this of course. I have a few reasons to say.

1. Nintendo is thinking about their fans, by making a cheaper 3DS called the 3DS that can play 3DS Games without the 3D. Think about it, who even uses the feature? It gives headaches like Taylor Swift breaks up with boyfriends.

2. Nintendo wants everyone to play the new Pokemon games. Pokemon is a very big franchise and they don't want the sales to be lower than normal. That's where Nintendo makes a lot of money.

3. Nintendo is just out there to get your money. They make a new product and they know that more people will buy it if they can't afford the 3DS. That guarantees that they get your money. "JUST TAKE MY MONEY!' No. Not today Nintendo!

I don't have a 3DS and was on the fence about buying one, but this new thing seems pretty appealing. I just wish it didn't look so silly.

I like it. I will buy it, mainly for collection purposes though. People need to calm their tits about it. It's targeted at kids, and most kids don't give a **** about how the thing is designed and whether or not it displays 3D or not.

I think people are largely misunderstanding the 2DS. $40 could make a huge difference for some people. The trailer even said that the focus of the 2DS was 'value'. It makes no sense to say that you can just turn the 3D off because if you already own a 3DS there's really no reason to get a 2DS (save for collection purposes as Syd has so kindly pointed out).

So basically, the 2DS is just an item for those who don't already own a 3DS and can't afford one, and also a product which will resonate pretty well with fans and collectors.

If there's anything I've learned from Nintendo it's that you should never underestimate them. Everything they do does have a purpose albeit hidden at times, and they always, always have a plan.

EDIT: Also think about it. The 2DS is basically a simple way-around high value. Nintendo can't afford to offer further price-cuts on the 3DS because they'll more than likely be at a loss (if they aren't already, because as you may know, basic game marketing standards scratch upon the concept that sometimes, you have to withstand losses in hardware in order to gain in software). It probably costs a lot to produce autostereoscopic 3D capable screens, so with the 2DS, scrapping that feature along with using only one screen ([Link]) make it easier to offer a reduced price for a product that is otherwise similar in every way to the original. Nintendo really knows what they're doing.

(Ok I'll admit it looks kinda weird but whatever).

EDIT 2: Sorry haha. So as has already been pointed out somewhere above, Nintendo is releasing this alongside X & Y which is honestly quite genius if you think about it. How many Pokemon fans are out there? How many are dying to play X &/or Y? And now think about how many don't own a 3DS. Yeah the number don't really match up. So the 2DS is also a great venture in the way that it will allow people who can't afford a normal 3DS to buy one and play X & Y, and it would also make more sense to get a 2DS if the only reason you're getting it is for Pokemon (which is something I see more than often among some Pokemon fans).

I have never turned off the 3D. Ever. No headaches yet, even after an hour and something of playing non-stop.
