A new handheld for a new generation.

  • Yeah, back to meme-based entries for now since I can't think of anything to write thanks to me still not having my own computer back.

I remember looking in the Pokemon X and Y forums and some people were saying that it may be the end of Pokemon for them just cos they can't afford a 3DS for the new games.

Take a look back, and I remember how some people mentioned they wanted to play a new generation but couldn't get the handheld it was for, only to return to playing Pokemon generations later.

I already got my 3DS last Christmas so I'm not facing this issue but despite not having any 3DS games for it, I'll continue to play my Black 2 until X and Y come out, cos I'm planning it as the first 3DS game I want to get.

  • To be fair, the economy is a lot worse now than it was during the time those games were released. It's more difficult to get this console than it was to get a GB or GBA.

  • While that's true, Sydian, the prices are somewhat comparable to the economy back when those handhelds were still expensive.

Wait...what she's saying is that the consoles cost more in a worse economy. Even accounting for inflation:

    GB: $166.62
    GBC: $112.61
    GBA: $116.68
    DS: $160.52
    3DS: $254.15/$172.50 (before/after price drop)

3DS is still the most expensive console on release, and while after the price drop the price was comparable to a few of their previous systems, it's still very high for a bad economy in which people don't have much spending money.

  • That, and there's a key thing being missed; people complained about having to get a new console for the new Pokemon for ages.

Buy it or not though just for X and Y, sales will still be safely in the millions for 6th gen. And the 3ds has little to worry about now as after the first year sales picked right up. And were comparable to the DS sales anyways, so take that as you will.

  • Lmfao!! Cant afford it? Dude, parents are shelling out money to their kids now more than ever before. If people can jump to get an iphone 5 for just having an upgrade whixh is 700 bucks, im sure 200 isnt a big deal. People have almost a year to save up for x and y and its not like they're gonna stop manufacturing it anytime ssoon. People who say this either dont think it is worth it to them personally, or they just like complaining.

  • Don't get me wrong, it is a lot of money but i really doubt its gonna hurt sales. If anything its an incentive to buy a 3DS. Can't afford it? Be patient and save up to get it eventually.

-3DS is the most expensive of Nintendo's handhelds.
-People finally realized it's silly to buy a handheld just for a Pokemon game or they're finally burned out.
-People have been complaining about upgrading their handhelds for a long while. This "meme" makes no sense.

It's mind boggling how people didn't think 6th gen should be on the 3DS simply because they don't have it, though. However, buying a handheld JUST for Pokemon games is silly, to be fair.

They're missing out, either way. Just like how everyone missed out on what made the GBA and DS so great, because they only play Pokemon.

  • Gameboy had Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, TCG and Pinball released globally.
GBC had Crystal and maybe a few others.
GBA had Fire Red, Leaf Green, Ruby, Saphire, Emerald and a few other spinoffs.
DS had Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HG, SS, Black, White, B2, W2 and a crap ton of spinoffs.
3DS has no main games and one or two spin offs. I think it's about time we moved over to the new console.
