I've been thinking a lot lately about the next version of Pokemon to be released. I think that Game Freak mixed things up a bit with Gen V by releasing it on the DS. It was the first time that they ever released a second generation on a handheld console. Another was the fact that they next games released were not a remake, but the first ever numbered sequel to a Pokemon game. With all of these changes to the release schedule it could be hard to pinpoint the exact time when the next set of games will be announced/released, but I've searched Google for some dates that may help us figure out a time frame when that might be...whether it be a new generation or even an RSE remake. I also want to add in that although we don't know what these games will be I'm pretty confident that Game Freak is done with the DS and will be moving on to the 3DS for it's next main series game.

Here's the data that I collected based on Wikipedia/Bulbapedia for release dates. I had trouble finding the dates that the games were announced in Japan, but I was able to find some reliable sources for BW and BW2.

Now for the data:

I started with Ruby/Sapphire because before that I felt the data would skew the results too much.

RS Japan: 11/21/02
RS NA: 3/19/03

FRLG Japan: 1/29/04
FRLG NA: 9/9/04

Emerald Japan: 9/16/04
Emerald NA: 5/1/05

DP Japan: 9/28/06
DP NA: 4/22/07

Platinum Japan: 9/13/08
Platinum NA: 3/22/09

HGSS Japan: 9/12/09
HGSS NA: 3/14/10

BW Announced: 4/11/10
BW Japan: 9/18/10
BW NA: 3/4/11

BW2 Announced: 2/25/12
BW2 Japan: 6/23/12
BW2 NA: 10/7/12

Now for the estimates:

Announced for Japan...
...as soon as 1/23/13
...as late as 11/29/13
...best estimated around June 2013

(2 pieces of data using the days in between the announce date and the Japanese release date preceding it.)

Released in Japan...
...as soon as 2/9/13
...as late as 7/5/14
...best estimated around November 2013

(7 pieces of data using the days in between each Japanese release)

Released in North America...
...as soon as 5/29/13
...as late as 9/28/14
...best estimated around February 2014
(7 pieces of date using the days in between each North American release)

I'm going to be cross posting this to the RSE Remake Speculation thread.

I forgot who exactly was being interviewed, but I remember someone saying that the possibility of a remake of generation III wouldn't be a bad idea. Can't remember if it was Sugimori or someone else, but it happened. Try searching for that interview if you feel like it. =w=

@Taro Tanaka: I'm not saying RSE remake specifically I just mean the next releases in the main series Pokemon games.

An RSE remake was *hinted* at back in November of last year. Still haven't heard anything else since then, so I'll assume it's not going to happen for a while, if it even will.

Sadly I'm not that interested in a next game if it's going to release on the 3DS and not take an innovative step further from the Chessboard gen, but I'd be very interested if they made an R/S/E sequel instead of a remake and were able to include parts of another region such as Sinnoh. Interested enough to buy a 3DS, even. One can dream.

I immediately regret posting this with "RES Remake" in the title...I just meant a new set of Pokemon games whether it be Gen 6, RSE remake, or a sequel to an older game...
