This blog entry is to inform all who are concerned about me of what has happened to me in the past couple of weeks. What you will read here may cause some concern, but I assure you that I'm OK physically, mentally and emotionally
Approximately two weeks ago, I was in a car accident. My father was driving and I was in the back seat, and my younger brother was in the front seat. The accident killed my father. It also broke my little brother's arm, and gave me a gnarly head wound which put me in the Intensive Care Unit of the local hospital for about three to four days. I was even unconcious for about two of those days at least.
Needless to say, the circumstances have put me in a position where I cannot easily access the internet frequently. I'll probably be gone for a few months as I've got a lot on my plate to deal with. I don't intend to forget about PC at all, but untill my life settles down, I'm seriously going to be inactive for a while. Sorry guys. ;o; I'll definitely miss every one of my good friends here, and hope that we can meet again someday either here on PC or somewhere else on the internet.
I've also posted this on LiveJournal, so please see it here https://zazie-lavender.livejournal.com/11693.html it's a public entry so everyone can see this...This message goes out to all my friends!!~
Omg, I am so sorry to hear that you lost your father over the accident. ;~; And you were seriously injured? Omg, I am lost for words. I am glad you and your brother is okay, but still...dang. Your father. My condolences. I know it is tough. Take all the time you need. You take care of yourself and your brother.
I thank everyone who has commented so far for their concern. Still inactive-ish for now, I check on PC occasionally, When I can.
I don't really intend to post any new blog enmtries unless I have to announce something else like coming back or something. Mainly I am just checking in to reply to comments on this entry and to see if I have any VM/PMs to reply to. XD
If something happens and I can't make time to get on PC, it may be a while before I am able to reply to you if you PM/VM me or comment here. I'm certainly not active on MSN/WLM or IRC right now.
I don't use Yahoo! IM or AIM and a juicy "EWWWWW!!!~" in advance to people silly enough to ask me to use them when I get back from this Leave Of Absence.
I still don't know when I'll be able to get back online regularly yet. It depends on how long it takes to get my desktop computer set back up. That is if I get permission to set it up at all...I've got to discuss it with the master of the house and see if we can do it.
The house is old you see...and the electrical system in the house is as old as the house and we gotta figure out if the circuit breakers and wiring and such can handle another computer in this room I'm in. I'm on the computer that's already in this room right now. However I don't have permission to install anything on it or make any software changes...like installing Firefox or mIRC or the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. So that makes this computer almost useless to me, much like using a public computer...I can't really add anything I need on it to safely maintain an online presence.
For now I'm stuck on this machine with:
Windows XP SP3 (This OS is ok....but I'd feel safer if I could install Firefox)
IE8 (Ewwwww.....I'd rather be using Firefox right now!)
McAfee Anti-Virus (EWW! I HATE IT! I really have to talk to the masters of the house and talk them into using Avast! which is FREE!!! I think they aren't subscribed to this crappy anti-virus so it shouldn't be a problem un-installing it and getting Avast! installed)
Naturally there are a few other programs installed that I think are a bit unnecessary but I'll have to ask permission to get rid of those too. (Or update them if they're used by the masters of the house.)
I think if I can get permission to make a few changes to this computer that I can optimize it so it doesn't take as long to start up and become useable. XD
(Startup programs on here gobble up about 30-40 seconds worth of time, taking up too many resources during that period of time. Therefore making you wait for the stupid start up programs to finish loading. >_>)
Of course the other annoying part is that I can't even trust the browser to remember my passwords for me, since this isn't my computer. D8
It's annoying but since most sites have decent password recovery mechanisms (PC included) I can survive without having the browser remebering my passwords.
That and I do tend to have a few "standard passwords" which depending on how secure I need the password to be, are used across many password protected things of mine
Boring stuff about my password system which keeps me from having to remember too many passwords. :P It's an optional section to read.
Spoiler:
I have a short and simple password for low security stuff that would cause me no harm at all if it were guessed or cracked
A longer medium security password which is for more low security stuff where a longer password is required. Most of the stuff I use this password for is stuff that I'd not be harmed by if this password slipped out.
Even if you got the two previously mentioned passwords, you wouldn't have access to anything important. They're for stuff that's not important.
A third and very long password which I use for High Security. This password doesn't get used in very many places. This isn't the only one for High Security things.
A 4th long and complex password which can be adapted to meet stupidly pointless password complexity requirements like "Must have letters AND numbers" Because of that, this password has several variant forms. This is another High Security password
Things like my E-mail account and PC account tend to get High Security passwords. Sometimes they even get 'Special' passwords which aren't in the 'Common' pool. It depends on how 'alert' I am.
('alert' meaning how likely I think someone might try to guess, steal or crack the passwords. when I am on 'high alert' I tend to change passwords often.)
I do also tend to change passwords every so often. While there are about 6 or 7 'Common' passwords that I use, I also sometimes create new passwords to put in the pool regularly, to replace older ones. Then I change the password of everything that uses the password I replaced to the new one i created for that 'pool' :p
While some could argue it's somewhat insecure of a system, I never write down any of these passwords at all.
If I share a password with someone it gets immediately taken out of the 'Common' pool and will only remain unchanged in the place I intend the other person to have access to. All other places that have the password I shared will get a new 'Common' password.
So far I've never had to share a 'Common' password with anyone. Usually if I think I'm going to share a password to something, I change it's password to something 'special' which isn't one of my 'Common' pool passwords. This way if they try the password I've given them on something else of mine, they'll fail.
I always make an effort to keep my email account password to something I can instantly remember, but I avoid using a low-security password, so it keeps the number of possible passwords down, since it's pretty narrowed down.
Naturally, the Password Recovery questions I use are usually something only I know and can instantly answer. I always try to use a custom password recovery question if I can and not the ones already provided. those are usually too easy to research or guess.
I can usually log in to my accounts on most sites usually in less than 5 password guesses. If the site allows fewer than that, I can usually do a password recovery and get to my email account and reset it to something 'Common' that way.
Here's a treat for those of you who read my wall of text down to this point:
I'm doing alright now, and I hope I can get back online soon, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to. X3
I've been job hunting lately, so I hope I find one soon.
I'm tired of sitting around the house with only TV to watch.
(It's not really worth trying to be online with this computer since I can't install the things I need to be 'online'. It's only good for checking in once in a while, checking my Email and PC a little bit.)
While having a job would make it a bit harder to be online, it'll let me buy things. Mainly I need to replace my laptop and DS because both of those got damaged beyond usable in the accident. xD With a laptop, I'd definitely be able to get online and do stuff when I have free time. :D
