Ugghh.

I'm pretty flustered right now. Today I posted this on my Facebook.



And then this followed several minutes later:



Well first off, this guy is constantly bothering me about getting a job and asking me if I have one yet. I get he's concerned , but he asks me that question everytime he knows I'm online and I'm beyond annoyed by it. I know I need to get a job, but looking for one is a job and it doesn't happen over night. Especially in the bad economy we're in. You don't have to bother me everytime you see me asking if I have one. -_-

Second, I hate when people say I should grow up and stop playing Pokemon. Since when does not playing Pokemon make me more grown up? There isn't an age limit for Pokemon, even if it's aimed at children more of less. You can say the same for any video game, playing them doesn't make you more or less mature/grown up, Pokemon is a game series for anyone and I think you're never too old for it. And also how will playing Pokemon and having a job at the same time make me less productive? How does playing Pokemon affect my job when I know I won't even be allowed to play it at work in the first place? Sure I won't be able to play Pokemon as much, but still playing Pokemon will having a job won't make me less of a productive part of society. Seeing many people on PC and other Pokemon forums who have respectable jobs and still are able to do both is proof of that. And the fact that there's many people on these forums my age and even older is proof that you're never too old for Pokemon. I'm sure once I get a job I can still play Pokemon and manage to stay focus on work. I may bring my DS with me to my job, but I would only play it during a break or if I get to work by bus, i'll play to and from work.

The argument ended after that and I ended up unfriending him cause I'm tired of him bothering me like that. Just please, leave me alone for once and let me take care of myself, I'm more responsible than people think. Though this does make me want to try harder to look for and get a job. I've decided to not re add him again until I do get one.

Also my bosses love that I play Pokemon because I can sell games to kid easier since I know about them from the inside out. I also know federal accredited Accountants that Play Pokemon. In 4 years I hope to be a Certified Practicing Accountant as well. If we're still here I'll meet with your friend and kindly slap the hell out of him if you'd like.

Yeah, he should know Pokemon is not just a kid's game.

I'm the same age as you Aaron and I still play Pokemon. And I second Xander's comment there.

I'm not entirely sure but I think he works at a bank. Since I unfriended him I can't really check without re-adding him and looking weird. He's in his late 40s/early 50s and so I guess I sort of understand how he won't understand as much at his age, but still it doesn't seem right for him to judge me like that. ._. I'm assuming you work at a video game store judging by your comment, so that just proves that playing Pokemon in your 20s can even help your job sometimes. Good luck with becoming an Accountant someday. And yeah if you were possibly able to run into him i'd love if you did that. Lol

Should tell him I'm 20, 95.2 percent Grade 12 Academic [University-Level] average, have been playing Pokemon since '98 and have held a job for over three years while paying bills, homeschooling, making a fan game in RMXP, etc. etc.

Absolutely no correlation

Tell him to quite frankly, piss off, haha. It's none of his business what you enjoy and what your current emplyment status is. Perhaps instead of criticising your way of living, he should take a look at himself and his supposed 'contribution to society.'

He's go no authority to tell you what to enjoy and play and what not to enjoy and play. That goes for finding a job too. So swipe him aside! ;)

Regardless of whether you still play it or not, what you posted was basically a picture of an item you cherish/cherished that was ruined. It had nothing to do with jobs, games, or how you spend your time.
This person here was trying to look better than you, which I don't agree with, but regardless of anything said, spending some of your time also finding a job will help benefit you in the long-run too! So try not to take this incident as all negative and maybe use it as motivation to prove you can do both.

While it's true that playing a game on its own doesn't make you more or less mature, I wanted to point out that if you put gaming in front of other priorities that need to be done, then yes, it does affect how mature you are. Using a game as an escape to de-stress is one thing, but people equate this with being less mature because a person might not spend as much time on their other, or more important responsibilities.
It's simple, really. If someone rather spend 8 hours of their day RNGing or EV training/ battling, and can't bother to do the dishes, or focus on their schoolwork/ work, or make a proper lunch, then yes, in my eyes, they're immature.

I'm not anymore, it actually has given me more motivation to look for a job. I won't do it now cause I need sleep, but still.

Thanks you're really encouraging. I understand that there's more important things in life in Pokemon or other video games. I do play the Pokemon games often, at least 2-3 times a week, but I do save time for many other stuff. I'm not one of those people cause I realize there's more important thing than just playing end enjoying Pokemon. Sure it is one of my main hobbies, but I do put time off for other things/people. Honestly whenever I play Pokemon or any game it's only for 2-3 hours, 4-5 at most every few days of the week. Not everyday for 8 hours, which does goes to show I'm probably more responsible than he thinks and would be willing to put the game down for work or other chores. But yeah this dispute really is giving more motivation to look for a job cause I realized I can't just spend all my life sitting around on the internet, playing Pokemon, eating and watching TV.

Maybe he's unsatisfied with his own work, which is why he feels the need to pick on others. Tell'im you at least are enjoying life while he widdles away into a saggy pile of wrinkles.

If I understood that he's in his 50s. He's gettin' there. Maybe that depresses him, so throwing it in his face might make his frail arse crack lol

I dont see why it's his business that you play video games you like in your spare time. It dosent seem like just concern you dont have a job, seems more criticizing that he thinks you arent trying. Im in a similar situation. I dont have a job but Im looking and at the same time, I play Pokemon for enjoyment in my spare time. Nothing wrong with that. If he dosent like Pokemon, he dosent have to play it, but he shouldnt criticize others for doing so if they like it.

I doubt that's what the man meant though - he probably wouldn't have posted the same thing if AW had posted a picture of a torn up DVD, or a torn up football. There's a special prejudice that comes with video games; the other day I was playing League in the dining hall and a woman told me that it was the cause of all the tragedies in the world. Not because it's a particularly evil game, but because it's a video game and video games ruin everything.

Yeah I agree with this too. Video games are just generally hated towards certain people and are seen as evil and supposedly is the" cause of all the recent violence."in the world. When really they're not and I don't think a video game can affect a person to be violent unless you take it too seriously or if your just crazy. And I'm sure most people who play video games realize it's not real. And I wish there wasn't that prejudice with video games.

I know. That was in response to the whole "videogames are not just for kids" because it's true- there's so much prejudice. I think people like him think "Ugh kids these days get everything without having to do anything." So I guess he figures.. hey if you don't have a job and you have spare time, you should be using that spare time to build a CV by doing volunteer work, etc, or something else.. who knows!

But yeah, it was uncalled for by him. Had no right to comment just to bash. AW was right for defriending him, especially if all that's gonna come out of his mouth is snarky comments and negative ones at that. Like I said, it was about a cherished item being ruined, not about anything else. That man was disrespectful to post something like that publicly, too.
