  • On the road to Violet City

I returned home and explained all that had happened and that I was going to begin my Pokémon Journey. Mother listened patiently and understood. She told me that money was important on a long journey and that I should send some home for her to save for me if I ever needed it. I agreed and with tears in her eyes she bade me good luck on my Journey.

As I walked through Route 29 a third time, I noticed a signpost that I hadn't seen before, It directed me that there was in intersection in which Route 46 collided with Route 29. I decided to go give Route 46 a look around. As soon as I stepped through the gatehouse doors into route 46 I Saw a Geodude. "Geodude, a rock type. Many times Geodude's are mistaken for rocks and surprise many hikers who accidentally trod upon them." That's what the Pokédex had to say about them. I knew from watching Pokémon specials that Geodudes were powerful and sold fighters and that having on e on my team would aid me against at least one of the League Gyms in the future. I resolved to catch one. I walked around for a little while climbing up on ledges, walking the hiking paths. After about an hour I spotted an active Geodude which I strode up near. It whirled around and looked at me before it tried to 'run' off. Cyndaquil was quick to cut if off on the other side. The Geodude now knew what was happening, it tackled Cyndaquil before retreating into a defense curl. Cyndaquil launched an ember attack at it, weakening it considerably, followed up with a tackle of it's own. The geodude was panting now, I took that as my opportunity, I threw a pokéball at it and waited. The ball shook back and forth many times, just when I thought I had failed and the geodude was going to pop back out, the ball stopped. it just sat there on the ground still as could be. Could it have been that easy? Had I actually caught my first Pokémon? I picked up the ball and called Geodude out of it. It sat there on the ground panting slightly looking up at me. I bent down and placed my hand on its head and said" Welcome to the team, Dude." It gave me a smile and I gave it a spritz with a potion and it was happy.

I returned to Route 29 and continued on towards Violet City. I stopped in Cherrygrove only long enough to heal Cyndaquil and Geodude at the Pokémon Center. Nurse joy was back to her usual spirited self. As I walked up Route 30 I noticed that the 2 boys I had seen camping, while I was going to Mr. Pokémon's house, had packed up camp and were now training together. One of the boys called out to me. I met up with them and said hello. They greeted me happily and asked if I wanted a quick battle. I agreed and battled both boys, I still had yet to see how Geodude handled itself with me in battle. The first boy had a Rattata which was almost no match for the toughness of geodude. It tried to bite at geodude but recoiled quickly when it's teeth made contact with Geodude's rocky body. The Second boy had an Rattata as well, but also had a Pidgey. His rattata was easy enough, but the Pidgey was resilient. It proceeded to knock out my geodude, though Geodude did weaken the pidgey a good deal. Cyndaquil's speed was no match for the pidgey, within a couple hits, pidgey fainted. The boys were in awe that I could battle so deftly for a beginner, they each said I was going to a great battler. They offered their phone numbers for the Pokégear and told me that they would call me for a rematch after they've trained up a bit. We said farewell and I traveled onward.

It was late in the afternoon when I reached another crossroads, this time the Signpost said, "Violet City -Route 31- Dark Cave". This dark cave sounded interesting and I decided to check it out. As soon as I entered the cave I saw a bunch of Zubat fluttering farther in. I consulted the Pokédex and saw that Zubat's final form, Crobat, was very powerful and fast. I wondered if I could get one of those zubat to join me. I walked in farther near the zubat and one of them fluttered down and landed on my shoulder. Cyndaquil, who was out at the time providing light, conversed with it a little before I felt the zubat brush up against my ear. It felt as though it wanted to be friends with me. I asked if it wanted to go along with me and it fluttered around exuberantly as if it couldn't wait. I pulled out a Pokéball and tossed it at the Zubat who went inside without any question. I now had a new zubat friend. After I explored the cave a little further I returned to Route 31 and entered Violet City. It was nightfall, so I found the Pokémon Center and spent the night. I figured that I could explore the city better in the morning.
