Prettiest Profile Contest

So... as some of you may or may not have noticed there hasn't been a Prettiest Profile Contest in months. I've been busy, Netto I guess has been busy at all, and no one has actually come up to ask me about it except... maybe once or twice. I don't like the idea of getting rid of the contest as a whole. It's one of the few things that we hold here in both Pokemon Trivia and Other Trivia. However, I suppose that the contests have become a bit redundant in which people are less excited, or if they are, don't ask about it or show their excited. This sort of gives the feels that people don't really care for it and thus the delays because it's not at the top, or even near the top, of my to-do list. So, I have a few questions for the community:

    1. Is there anything we can do to somewhat change the contest so it's more exciting? Maybe give the contest themes, remake it a bit to which those who have won can participate, etc etc?

    2. The timespan between each contest. It was set to be one in Pokemon Trivia and one in Other Trivia each season. However, obviously it hasn't been working that way. Beginning from the next one in Other Trivia should we try to go back to that routine or choose a different timespan for the contests.

    3. Volunteers! Back in the past people would offer to make the next one but we haven't gotten that lately. Is there a way to have it so people are more willing to volunteer? Maybe an emblem for those who host (both being the judge and the one who puts up the thread) the PPC? I'm not sure.

    4. Uh... actually those are my main three questions. But Comments and Suggestions would be greatly appreciated to help get the Prettiest Profile Contest back onto its feet.

Maybe if this blog doesn't get enough attention I'll ask this some other way since I want to get as much feedback as possible.

I wouldn't mind going for something like this. Although hosting something's always been a problem for me, so I'd probably sign up to be a judge instead. Either way, I'd love to see something like this happen. Forum-goers tend to put tons of work into projects. :3

Ahh. Should have specified. "Hosting" is done by two people: the judge and the one who puts up the thread. Either way I'm definitely going to try to make this happen. I just need to input/feedback to get it back on its feet a little more.

  • 1. Iunno.
    2. Three months between 'em, I guess? That'll make just four PPCs in a year - Two OTPPC and Two PokeTriv!PPC. I guess having a larger time gap might make people wait for it with bated breath. But it won't work if there's no interest in people's minds anyway, so who knows...
    3. I'd love to host. But the thing is...my activity is kinda uneven. >I

...aaaanddd make it so that past winners can participate as well? Kinda like how Signature of the week and Icontest were done? :O

Can you explain the Signature of the Week and Icontest for me? I participated in when but I don't know how it works for those who have won before.

  • The "if you won previous PPC's you cannot participate again" kinda drifted away a few people...or that's just what I've seen in my perspective. As Dero mentioned, you should let previous winners participate again. I was thinking of limiting how many times a winner can participate in the PPC, but idk...that'll still drift people away. lol

I wouldn't mind doing "themes" for the contest, kinda adds uniqueness to the competition, and it brings many ideas and well-creative profiles. Like for example...for the release of B2/W2, maybe we can make a PPC in Pokemon Trivia having contestants create profiles based on anything B2/W2?

Those are just thoughts. And I wouldn't mind being a host for the event, actually. I have so much time myself these days that idk what to use lol. I was wondering whatever happened to the PPC. I've always wanted to participate again (since they're really fun!), and I was waiting for news of the new PPC. xD

  • Well, if I remember correctly, they allowed past winners to participate and go for the win. But even if they won, they won't really be getting any emblem. Consider it being like one of those matches in boxing where they winners defend their crown by smashing all the other contenders into the ground. In short - If winner is a past PPC title holder, he won't get anything and will merely be there to increase competition among newcomers. Plus, there are plenty of previous PPC winners like me who might wanna participate just for the heck of it. I mean, its not like there are just a few past winners. Quite the opposite. Implementing this rule will have two benefits - It'll increase competition and might actually incline more people towards participation due to their competitive spirit or somethin'. And second - all previous winners who've just been watching along the sidelines will have something to do and might even help out in promotions in a much more efficient manner because they're personally excited for the PPC and want more competition (or MOAR NEWBIES TO ANNIHILATE MWAHAHA!).

..I guess, that's it. It has one problem, though. The time period between two PPCs can't be as long as 3 months if past winners are allowed. It might frustrate people and turn 'em away if only four PPC took place and half of the time the past winners won. :P

  • I would have posted a thread about this so it gets more attention btw. xD

Anyways I would think that we could simply allow previous winners to join again considering that the current schedule of switching from OT to PT and back again would make that work I guess?

Didn't feel like it at the time. Again, I said I would move from blog to thread if needbe. This is just initial stuff.

I am in a grouchy mood I shouldn't be on right now. buh.

Anyways, I don't mind allowing past winners participate in the PPC again. Though Derodero beings up a good point. So the question is if we did allow them to go again what should we do about the time span between each one and so forth. I'll probably post a thread about this somewhere, idk. I think I want to actually put down some ideas before making an actual thread so it's a bit more organized.

  • I understand why you went for a blog post instead of a thread. But I guess you probably won't be able to get as much user input on a blog as you would on an official thread. The decision for the change in time span between PPCs is something which can be done in a much more efficient manner if we get as much feedback as possible. Go for a thread, Tara, I'd say.

And is it possible for announcements to be reply-able (I know that isn't a word w/e)? I mean, all announcements I have seen have been locked and they garner attention better than normal threads do. You can garner attention AND get more feedback if we have reply-able announcement. :o

I'm not sure if we can make an announcement and allow people to post to it, but we can make a thread, sticky it, and an announcement leading to the sticky for the slow.

  • I read your post, Tara. It ain't like I have comprehension problems either. Hence the first sentence of my previous post. All I was trying to convey was that you could only get so much of user feedback on a blog post. I understand how you'd want everything to be as organized as possible before you post a thread. But dont you think you have a good draft now? I mean, there are basically only two questions which are up to debate: what should be the time span between the two PPCs and would themes be a good idea. You and netto have already approved the whole previous winners may enter rule but that can be up to debate as well. All I was saying was you have a good draft, a few questions and require user feedback and a thread was the best way to go, imo. But what may seem sufficient to warrant a thread might not for you and I understand that. Therefore, I stated that it was just what I felt should be done; not that what you should necessarily do. If you get what I mean.

I probably won't be able to be any more elaborate. English is my second language, after all. :P hope you understand. Even if you don't, we can agree to disagree and leave it at that. Cheers!

  • Haha, it's alright. I didn't mind. Was just giving clarification - in case you thought I'm some moron with zero comprehension skills. :P

ALSO this doesn't matter but I can't see any strikes. :P
