If you're like me, you curse like a sailor and drop fbombs every other word. However, there are those who go without, or just curse occasionally.

Which are you? Do you believe that more swearing = less intellect?

nah i swear a lot and i like to consider myself reasonably smart lol sometimes there aren't better words though let's not even try to play. you can't sound serious when you need to by using words like heck, poop, darn, freaking, etc. there's no weight when you need it. i sling swears around like there's no goddamn tomorrow but like idc what people think of me for it.

I don't swear frequently. My family never swore frequently and I'd rather keep proper etiquette. Occasionally I might throw in a word, and I went through a phase in teens (like many do) where I did swear quite often.

No, I don't believe there is any correlation between swearing and intelligence. https://cpb-us-w2.wpmucdn.com/campuspress.yale.edu/dist/a/1215/files/2016/05/YRURP-Spring-2016-Issue-1vzvnl3.pdf#page=16 Is a study done by Yale if you want to read it. I swear A LOT especially at work, easily hundreds of times a day when I'm working.

I also have above average intelligence, not a flex but every standardized test I have taken has shown this. I think people who say that people who swear are less intelligent are deflecting because they are self-conscious about their own intelligence.

I wouldn't consider myself very intelligent, and I don't have a very clean mouth, but I don't think that there's really a correlation between language and how smart you are

Eh, I literally have an IQ of 120, but, I don't like saying this because I don't like people to think I'm bragging about it.

Anyway, on topic, I do swear occasionally, but I don't make a point to swear every sentence I speak though.

i'm a fan of using swears to give what i'm saying a bigger impact. as lots of folks already said too, there's literally no correlation between using slurs and the level of your intelligence.

although they might not hold that much gravity anymore if you overuse them. that's why i usually only swear when necessary. keeps it fresh.

EDIT - i love that this thread's title gets censored when i view it from the section itself, but not when it's being previewed from the homepage

I do this mostly in my head and probably very rarely when when writing something. I usually don't swear when talking. Though, I only rarely talk, anyway. So maybe if that were to change I'd probably swear a lot more? xD

I don't curse very often at all, only rarely, and it's usually in a silly way to things like video games when playing. like against mean monsters that give bf and I a hard time in TWEWY haha

Do you believe that more swearing = less intellect?

ngl I used to be like this, but I realized that was more due of the entire impression of people I've seen doing this rather than just the swearing.

My girlfriend and I even use **** as an affectionate term, the only things I find off limits are slurs, otherwise, why censor myself?

should probably note that there's a difference between swears and slurs

As anyone here who knows me can attest, I never utter swears or slurs. I like to keep my language clean and polite - and that's who I am, I don't censor myself as I rarely ever feel the need to swear to begin with. The only time I come close is when I am extremely angry/stressed and even then I still hold my tongue, the words just fire off in my head. I don't like that side of me, though. Thankfully it's hard to make me angry enough.

I'm honestly like Moss from IT Crown when it comes to bad language hahaha, you won't talk me into doing it!

You can add me to the list of smart people who swear frequently. They're just words. It's not like with slurs that have all that extra baggage.
