Since this is titled Sprite Discussion (indicating we can talk of and about sprites, styles etcetra) I'd like to raise the issue of Recolours and the horrible "styles" of recolours.
Things like Fossils, neons, inverts etc are not spriting styles, they are just shoddy recolours and should not receive the attention they do. In fact in all fairness, a recolour is near enough sprite theft, you're just grabbing somebody's work and changing the colour, it doesn't require skill and it certainly should not receive the praise it does.
I mean, recolours are great for beginners, they teach you how to select and even create your own colours, lets you explore the tools of paint/photoshop a bit and sets you up to start editing and then scratching. It does not leave it open for you to never progress and work only with bad renames of recolours that involve no skill and encourage a lack of creativity amongst the pixel art community. I would really like to see a mass boycotting of things like Fossils, neons, shadows unless of course they look like proper fossils (Mud like background with bones edited from the pokemon sprites) or are altered like Dragonfree's shadow pokemon.
If anyone is with me then PM me and we can discuss trying to set up a public front against this insult to talent and progression.
