The original 7 games, Red Blue Green Yellow Gold Silver and Crystal were some of the best games I've ever played. Fire Red and Leaf Green were pretty fun too, they were remakes of the originals. But for the most part, 3rd and 4th gen just weren't as fun to play. Natures and stuff made it so you worry too much about your stats, and abilities mostly did nothing but annoy you when the enemy had something like Poison Point. The stories were kinda bleh too. The 8 gym to the league was pretty fun back in the original games. In GSC, they redid it and added in the original world of Kanto, and a final trainer at the end. Then in R/S/E, they just rehashed the same thing. It was original in the first, nostalgic in the second, but now it just got old. Then in DP, they did so once again. Most of the new pokemon apart from some 3 or 4 aren't really that memorable at all. Also, the rival teams just get stupider game by game. Team Rocket was cool, they were evil, they killed Cubone's mother and held Silph and the Radio Tower hostage, etc. Then it went to eco terrorists and space pirates. Like honestly, they weren't evil, they were just stupid. I HONESTLY wouldn't be surprised if the next game had Solar Ninjas and Lunar Horseback Knights, the way this is going. It used to be about fun and collecting and seeing how good you do against the gyms and all, now it's about hatching a trillion eggs to get tthe right Nature/IV >.>

XD That about sums up my thoughts, too. Yellow and Gold are probably my two favorite games out of them all. I don't particularly like most of the new pokemon... The only thing I think has really improved is the graphics.

Of course, what I'd really like would be a game where you could actually "catch them all" without having to buy any other game, but I know that'll never happen, so....

I like what you're saying. In-fact I had a conversation with my local GameTraders manager about it, who agreed. But I like them all still, however I like the earlier versions alot more. To me the whole natures thing really doesn't matter, I mean I don't competitive battle.

As a collector I like the whole new GTS and of course the forums help me complete things. I really only battle against my friends for fun. I loved the original 151 Pokemon and in GSC I loved them again. I can't wait for a GSC remake but at the same time maybe I'm too suckered in by D/P.

Nevertheless, they don't leave the great impact on me like RBY and GSC did, not slightly.

i agree with almost everything you said especially the part about natures/abilites etc

my only 2 problems are team Magma being my favorite antagonist for any pokemon game (i don't know why there just cool) and seeing as my favorite pokemon is from 4th gen (Infernape) i can't put hate on daimond or peral

Magma were a bit silly, in my opinion, but at least they didn't dress like pirates. And I said MOST pokemon, the starters are still mostly cool and I <3 Weavile. Just that a lot of them fail to capture that original charm.

Though looking at an Infernape sprite reminds me of those old Megaman games. No clue why, it just does o.O

Wow I couldn't agree any better. I really don't like the new pokemon as much because the old games were the bomb! Although ruby/sapphire/emerald/pearl/diamond were challenging games because thats why they added natures, abilities, and IV's because it makes the game tougher, but I can see where your going from here. lol I played my red version a lot and my silver more than D/P. lol
Another thing caught me as well when D/P came out and found out what the pokemon were like real life animals again just like jhoto pokemon were. I think Pokemon should stop making adventures right here, because all we need was 4 regions, because it makes sence. They are all together has 1 family. lol Well I think personally they are running out pokemon idea's...

It very well could be ideas actually. I mean some of the names of the 4th generation are pretty weak. I've seen members of this community who are making hacks writing better names, and even better concept arts for them.

chrona i totally agree with you

Back in the old games i just trained and battled with my mates for fun - i didn't worry about walls or anything really

Now with wi-fi i have to build a good team with the right natures and IV's... Like *$#%
I also have to worry about the right physical/special walls.
It's also annoying with the physical attack and special attack - they've just made the game more complex and it's basically repeated from the old games but more complex.
    I don't even remember many pokemon in R/S/E or D/P (i'm currently playing D/P)

Pokemon yellow, blue, red, gold, silver, crystal pokemon were so easily remembered.
Lugia and Ho-Ho, mewtwo and the lengendaries were just awesome!
as well as the everyday pokemon (eevee and it's evolutions)

The starters were good and oringanal, but i didn't like totadiles evolutions =(. totadile was alryt.

Chrona, I have to agree with you about the teams. They got more silly after Team Rocket. I think they should make the next evil team modeled after the Islamic terrorists. Now that would be interesting.

I do feel there were some good new feature to the new games, though. I like the double battles a lot (for some reason..), and the graphics majorly improved (but that is probably just because it changed to gba/ds). I guess the poketch is pretty interesting, too.

Other than that, though, I just really prefer the old games. The numbers of pokemon you have to catch is continuously going up, as is the number of legendaries and event-only pokemon (and sadly I've never been to an event). As has been already said, I think the newer pokemon (as a whole; there are a few nice ones..) are fairly...well...crappy (no offense). A lot of the 4th generation are evolutions or pre-evolutions to previous pokemon, most of which are unnecessary (again, in my opinion). I guess I just really prefer the 1st and 2nd generations.

I lean a lot towards gold/silver/crystal because I liked the johto region, and it also let you revisit kanto and other pokemon there. It had some interesting original ideas, such as day/night and evolving by the time of day, two new types, and eggs/breeding.

And of course in Yellow, you could actually get all three starters. If most trainers supposedly get to choose from one of the three starters of the region, then shouldn't that mean there are a lot of them, and can be found in the wild? They aren't legendaries after all...

The only true things they added to the newest generation are Natures, the next newest thing would be the physical/special attack splits. EVs have been around since RYB, so have IVs and what not. I've enjoyed all the games except the Hoenn region... that was the most lacking it just didn't have that much of a fun factor to it. Well, until I got Emerald but even that one feels lacking.

I don't see why people complain about the new generations, GSC had major faults that make me not think they're the best games in the series, for example: Level 27 Pokemon to buff your level 40+ Pokemon to take on Claire, yeah, real fair people... real fair... I love GSC as much as the next guy, but seriously, they toned down the difficulty too much and they also made it too easy to explore, they should've punished you for going to lake of rage, the highest level in the Johto region before you get to mount silver is literally 30 and it's only available one time! Unless ofcourse, you count fishing which takes too long to do to raise Pokemon and Magikarp doesn't provide that many experience points but that's beyond the point.

As I progress more into Diamond I am noticing more of it's capabilities and strengths, and appreciating it as such. I'd like to see my Pokedex completed on Diamond, rather than across all games, so that's what keeps me on Diamond.

Its not that its declined in quality, its just remained constant. I remember all my friends crowding round a single gameboy just because someone was fighting a gym. It was a perfect game. The thing is, nintendo have realised how perfect anyone under the age of 10 finds it, and neglected to appease those who have stuck by from the start. You gotta admit, it does exactly what it says on the tin :)

I agree with most things in the first post, Chrona.

The designs of the 1:st and 2:nd gen takes a great leap down to the 3:rd and 4:th gen I think. I've said this somewhere before, because I heard it somewhere, the original Pokémon creators might have been switched out for the latest two generations. Look at the legendaries. Palkia and Kyogre look crazy compared to Ho-oh and Lugia, the Regi~s are stupid boulders compared to the legendary neasts, and the somewhat feeling of mystery and grace in Mew and Celebi have become chibi-bluntness in Manaphy and Jirachi... I really like the earlier pokémon better than the newer ones.

But as for the regions, Ruby was my favourite and most played game, and I love Hoenn. Johto might compete with it, due to its awesome feeling, but I'm not sure.
