    Well, firstly you're going to need a few programs that will enable you to hack. Get yourself over to the toolbox sub-forum and get some tools! To keep it basic you will need a script editor, a map editor and a graphics editor. Here's a list of what programs do what:

    Script Editors:
    Poketext
    XSE
    pksvui_pkg

    Graphics Editors:
    unLZ GBA- Edits large sprites i.e trainers and pokemon
    Overworld Editor RE- Edits overworlds i.e the people who walk around the maps

    Map Editors:
    Advancemap
    Elitemap (comes with a bundle of other programs including unLZ GBA)

    For editing plain text in the game you could use a-text but i recommend a hex editor and a table file as knowing how to use a hex editor and being comfortable with doing so can come in useful later on in advanced hacking processes.

    Once you have all of these tools assembled you cna either find basic tutorials to help you or just fiddle around with them to get used to them.

    If you can't find any of the listed tools in the toolbox, google is always there for you.

    1. To insert a new map, use advancemap, go file-->Map-->Insert map. Go to the bottom and create a new bank with a number of reserved maps (however many you plan to add) then click "accept changes". AMap automatically points the new bank header to a blank offset. Now locate your newly made bank and click on any of the maps there, click create map, choose your size and tileset and you're away!

    2. Changing the overall worldmap is more difficult than it would seem. There is a tutorial for it by Mastermind_X (Search the tutorials section for "Chnaging the Worldmap Completely"), but its complex ASM stuff...

    Yeah, but why would you need to convert a Text file to a palette file? That's like impossible, there's no use too.

    1. How do you edit the tilesets 2,3,4,5,...and so on? I have got AGPIX working!
    2. How can I edit the titlescreen in AGPIX?
    3. How can I edit some other compressed stuff in AGPIX? I'm not talking about trainers or Pokemon, I'm talking about Pokegear, Pokedex, and trainer backsprites,...

    simple.
    click the event tab in A-Map and then on the lower-right side of a-map, you can see the 'Amount of Events'...
    Increase or decrease the numbers.
    if you wish to add an event, increase the number to the amount you wish to add and click the button there named 'Change events' and it'll ask you for a free offset.
    Input and your done. ;)

    Is there a list for the tileset's numbers (like in Advance Map) in FR? Ex. Tileset 0 is outdoor basic tiles, 1, 2 and so on. But is there a list somewhere?

    Well i dont think you need a list as you can just scroll through them to see what tiles they contain, or you can just find the map that has the tiles you want to use and then get the tileset number and use it. Plus i dont think there is a list here, i may be wrong, but you can try Google :D

    I'm using PA to get golem to evolve into groudon, but it errors during evolution and he stays golem.

    i moved the main characters house using a-map, but he still comes out of where the truck used to be. Then he goes in where the door used to be.

    then while in the house, i can't select anything. Meaning i can't set the clock, so i can't leave the house.

    can anyone help me?

    ok, so this time i checked the thread...

    here is my question:

    The first one says that pointer 000144 cannot be read, but none of my maps are deleted...

    And the second one shows what I think went wrong... all the Pokemon names went into a different language... but when i test out the ROM it is fine... The names come up properly and the game is working fine, nothing is wrong... execpt for Pic #2.... I was trying to add Lunatone and Solrock to the wild pokemon and then i saw this... How can i fix it? And please don't tell me i have to get a new ROM... i have already ruined to many roms now... i cannot re- write all my scripts again... takes like a whole day to do it!


    i really need help!

Only one told me how to do so:

    In Notepad's File menu clisk "Save As" and select "All Files" from the Save As Types pull down list. Once you've done that save your file somewhere you can find it. Usually the same place as the rom your editing.
    (From Irish Witch's PokeScript tutorial)

    But that doesn't work.

    It still saves it as a .txt file. It's probably something completely obvious, but can somebody help me?


    Also, and sorry for asking so many noobish questions ;), some of my warps to enter houses freeze the game and take me to blackness, and some don't. Can someone tell me how to fix this?

    Evolution Problem:
    I assume this happens in Fire Red. You need to activate the National Dex for Hoenn Pokemon. I don't know the coded reason why it happens it just does.
    Other Problem:
    You're going to need to rescript everything if you've changed it so much that none of it works, read tutorials.

    It doesn't seem like like there's a problem in the rom. It could just be that Advancemap is searching at wrong points for things. Try re-installing advancemap. See if that makes a difference.
    PS. Keep your scripts on your computer. I've still got the scripts from a hack I worked on last year. They don't take up much space on your hard drive. So just keep them somewhere until you're 100% sure you won't ever need them again.

    Okay, that explanation is missing something. I can't remember if it appears in Irish Witch's tutorial, but follow the above instructions, select 'All Files', but save the file as "[filename].rbc".

    Now there's no "Compile" option when I right-click it. :/ This is really starting to frustrate me beyond belief. I hate computers.

    there is script for where he comes out of the truck?

    i just assumed if i switched everything over, including the events and the truck he would come out of the truck, not the original positiion of the truck.

    yes the evo problem is in fire red, is there a way to make the hoenn-dex always active.
    ex. at the start of the game?

  • i was wondering whther anyone can help me with some block data:
    i want to add water to my tileset, the palette is working correctly, but it wont animate
    behaviour byte is 15 04 and bakcground byte is 00 02
    that are exactly the values from the original water tiles.
    might it have something to do with where in the tileset i place the water tiles?
    if anoyne knows the answer, pls tell me

    Hey all. I have a couple of questions about hacking Emerald.

    1. Has anybody made an ability/trait hacking tool in the same way that A-Tack works? Being able to make a hail version of sandstorm (alá D/P) or a -Special Attack version of Intimidate would be cool!
    I've fixed my 2nd question, but this one still stands!

    Also I was wondering if there was a way (presumably by HEX editing) to replace the actual move animations. Nothing difficult, just a straight sway, such as making Return have the animation of Earthquake and vice versa.

    One Question

    I got my answer for the Wild Battle Script, but my other question still stands. I have done a bit of research and found out what the PokeScript Trainer Battle Script is. I would like someone to please tell me the Trainer Battle Script for the XSE Program. I am using a Emerald Rom right now so if someone could find a script for one that works on Emerald that would be great as well!
