I've been browing many websites about Pokemon Platinum, and when these websites talk about all three games, they use many different ways of abbreviation?

Which one is the CORRECT one, if there is one?

I prefer DPt, since that is the name of the new Japanese TCG set. But for the games, is it different?

Thanks, and sorry if this was supposed to go the general Pokemon thread.

    Its now DPPt. D-Diamond, P-Pearl, and Pt-Platinum.

I'm so used to using D/P/P, however; I suppose DPPt would be a much better abbreviation. The only thing I can possibly see wrong with it would be the confusion factor. When I first looked at "DPPt," I didn't see the "Pt" standing for Platinum, I wasn't sure what it stood for. I have actually discussed this with people and have found out that a lot of people didn't understand the abbreviation right away either...
I suppose it's something we will have to get used to.

I'm using Pl on Japanese sites, but even then I see more people using ダイパプラ for the abreviation.
    It's a mystery.

    I use D/P/P, just like R/S/E, G/S/C and R/B/G/Y

It just seems right... I wont get used to DPPt for a long time, so I'll stick to what I know...

Thanks guys. It's because I'm updating my website and I have to redo a bunch of pages that used to say "DP".

The reason why I think DPP wouldn't work is because you wouldn't know whether the first P stood for Pearl or Platinum.

"Pt" is kind of hard to get, but it actually is the chemical symbol for Platinum, so it does make sense.

By the way, isn't there a new TCG set called DPt (without the extra P)? What do you think of that?

D/P/P is what I'm used to, but idk, there's no official way to abbreviate it. So I guess it's up to personal preference =P

I was recently looking at the TCG site and noticed DPt being used too.

It's an interesting abbreviation, and also the first official abbreviation post-Plat, isn't it?
I guess I'll stick with using this.

I've been using Pt alot. It's easier than writing out Platinum and it's a bit less confusing than DPP.

From the sights I've seen across the web so far, I believe DPPt is the proper abbreviation. Although I wouldn't damper any others, as long as it refers to Diamond, Pearl & Platinum. Agreeing with Ryan though, Pt seems rather unique, you don't see RBYl running around. ;)

Does it particularly matter? I mean, to me it doesn't...
IMO the 't' looks out of place, but if you want to go with DPPt then do whatever,

Also, the whole DPt is a bit stupid, where is Pearl? I understand the DPPt, but not DPt

Meh, make what you make of it, I'm just sharing opinions

Also, can I just say, if there is a problem with not being able to tell which is Platinum or Pearl, then tell me, because I'd like to know

    Thanks

I'm a D/P/P person. I'm not one for breaking the "tradition" of just using three letters to refer to a set of Generation-based games, in the main Pokemon games, so when I refer to the three, I call them "D/P/P" but individual, I call them by name. Not that it actually matter, though; If you say "D/P/P" on a Pokemon board, everyone will know what you're talking about, anyway. Whereas if you said DPt, I'm pretty sure there'd be a few confused people; regardless of if its used "officially".

Abbreviations aren't an official thing, because everyone has their own take on how to abbreviate things. It doesn't matter if they use D/P/P or D/P/Pt, because the order in which the games came would be the same, anyway.

It doesn't matter about the "t" IMO, everyone knows DP = Diamond and Pearl and the extra P is Platinum. So I just say DPP.

IMO I say D/P/P, but seeing as DPt is sort of the "official" abbreviation, I'd suggesting sticking to that. It really depends on what you prefer, really.

the people that are a bit confused about DPPt havent been dealing with chemistry (NaCl , He, MgSO4, etc) very much, otherwise it should come naturally to figure out what it is.

Wow I hadn't realized the thread would be this popular; thanks to all for your comments. I think I'm going to stick with DPt seeing as it is the "official" abbreviation.

However when Platinum comes out in the States then I might change it...
