What will the HGSS series be about?

With every new generation of Pokemon games a Pokemon anime season of the same region follows. Look at the Battle Frontier. When FRLG were released Ash went back to Kanto to challenge the Battle Frontier. Now Heart Gold and Soul Silver are to be released, I want to know this: will Ash return to Johto? Or will the series be about May's journey through Johto?

Neither. I saw dumping the frontier in Kanto as an excuse cause the original frontier island had nothing of importance. So they could easily have the frontier on the battle island but with Johto teams. And no don't shove it all in that small corner spread it out a lot make the island look a bit big and have contests as well. And going through a whole Johto is kind of a waste if you have 2 less facilities.

I think the Battle Frontier is spread around the battle Island, with the final facility on Stark Mountain.

They'll use a lame excuse to send Ash to Johto again. He misses May, Dawn wants to challenge the contests there, Oak gives him the HGSS Ball and wants him to bring it to Kurt, or something less lame.

Pokémon wont be sending him to a new reegion, as that means new Pokémon. And lets face it, they wont release another 100 Pokémon within a year or two. But.. a Frontier doesn't seem right. They'll have something new for him to challenge, well hopefully. I wouldn't bother watching another Frontier series.

    To advertise the new games.

Anyway, the DP trio will go to the Johto Battle Frontier and participate in contests and battles. Simple as that.

Actually, due to the fact that, by the time Sinnoh ends, Platinum will, to quote Disney, "go to the vault", and that GS Girl/Soul, unlike Leaf, has an important role in HGSS outside of being a playable character (AND the fact that, unlike FRLG, HGSS will not be overshadowed by DPPt, and that, if anything, going by the name of the current series being DP (Implying that it can only focus on DP, or DPPt at most.), and how unlike AG, which applied to the GBA games in general, HGSS will be the next series), it's very likely that she may end up becoming the new girl in the Johto revisit, and in effect replaces Dawn as this girl.

Well, I think they're improving, as they're incorporating Platium elements more artfully than before (a Pluto cameo, Rotom's many forms and I hear Handsome/Looker will be popping up soon in the Japanese episodes). Considering how Johto ish Sinnoh (both anime and game) is, I don't think we'll do a return to Johto, unless we have a filler arc in between the next generation of games, as BF was filler in between AG and D/P.

The anime BF went the extra mile by returning to Kanto, which was wasted opportunity in the extreme. I think the writers are slowly learning their lesson, since many fans fairly criticized the lack of true spotlight on Kanto, but I could be incredibly wrong.

As for replacing Dawn, anything is possible. I think her popularity might be problematic to ditch her, as Misty's ended up being (no offense to May fans). It's not impossible.

But, hey, FR/LG was only featured in that one Chronicles episodes, with the Moltres, so they could always do one major episode on a HG/SS location and that's it.

Yeah, but still, assuming they do return to Johto, they may end up making it an entirely new series rather than a filler arc (because, let's face, how will making HGSS a mere saga in the D/P series make any sense? I mean, at least with the Kanto Battle Frontier/references to FRLG, it was understandable, as the series it was in focused more on the GBA games in general rather than a specific series of said games.)

Frankly, I saw many problems with that saga as well (more than just the lack of true focus on Season 1, BTW), I mean, they had May return for no reason whatsoever [I mean, they already have a girl for Kanto, yet they just stuck with May which would not make sense advertizing-wise. And if that wasn't bad enough, they also never gave Leaf any appearances at all [I mean, at least with Brendan and Lucas, they got appearances in the World of Pokemon Segments of the movies, What did Leaf get? Nothing, nadda, Zip!], I mean, if they REALLY needed to use the Battle Frontier for promotion of Emerald, they should have just placed it in the exact same place as the games, and instead of giving May Squirtle, give her a Totodile (to advertize the fact that the Johto starters could be given out to those who complete the Hoenn dex in Emerald.).

Plus, once again, they threw out the perfect opportunity to finally give a proper explaination of what a Pokemon Master was, and not only that, but have Ash deny it a little while longer (for goodness sakes, he's supposed to be wanting to become the world's greatest pokemon master, yet he rejects the perfect opportunity to actually achieve that goal?!)

As for replacing Dawn, anything is possible. I think her popularity might be problematic to ditch her, as Misty's ended up being (no offense to May fans). It's not impossible.

Not to mention what happened to Brock during OI.

And yeah, I recall the problems they had when they ditched Misty (something that, unfortunately, the show will never recover from unless they rectify that mistake.), and our bitterness of what they did grew only worse on that day of WPM's interview where it confirmed the true reason for her removal (I'll never forgive the writers for deciding to act like Chauvinist Pigs and decide that they should only allow girls whose physical assets are far bigger than persona, intelligence, or positive behavior, and basically treating the girls as nothing more than tools for us straight males.).

But, hey, FR/LG was only featured in that one Chronicles episodes, with the Moltres, so they could always do one major episode on a HG/SS location and that's it.

And even then, 4kids made it seem as though One Island was an anime only location and not a part of the games.

I think we should wait and see what HGSS will bring us. Maybe it's something entirely different than a Battle Frontier, at least I hope so. (btw. Ash is not far from the League anymore, so IF there's gonna be a HGSS series it'll probably show up right when Heart Gold and Soul Silver are released.)
Another option: They'll show up with something like the Orange Islands, which have never been in a hack before.

And lets face it, they wont release another 100 Pokémon within a year or two.

Well, they ARE probably going to release a 5th gen Pokemon at the release of the 12th movie.

Doubt it. They would have given us a preview of a Fifth Gen Pokemon by now, especially considering how all Gen IV pokemon have all been revealed and accounted for. I mean, in the first movie, we had Donphan, Snubble, and Marril, in Movie 2, we had Lugia, Ledyba, Elekid, and Hoot-Hoot, In Movie 4, we had Wailmer and Azurril, in Movie 5, we had the Lati@s, Wailmer (in actual movie), Volbeat, Duskull, and Wynaut, in Movie 7, we had Munchlax, in Movie 8, we had Lucario, Bonsly, Mime Jr., and Weavile, and in Movie 9, we had Manaphy, Mantyke, Chatot, and Buizel.

Even with the explaination as to how they only reveal Gen V pokemon AFTER the debut of all the secret Legends, that still doesn't explain why they didn't debut them NOW (seeing how Arceus is already unveiled.)

Well, don't you think that, since the DP series will end and there probably won't be an HGSS anime season, there's a very good chance to reveal a new Pokemon? (Probably it'll be left mostly unnoticed and that it will be hidden in a crowd of wild Pokemon. They've done it before ^^)

Look, most pokemon that are new-gen Pokemon debuting prior to the new-generation are in sihlouettes (eg, Munchlax, which was in sihlouette form since before Jirachi Wishmaker, Lucario, Weavile, Mime Jr., and Bonsly were in sihlouette form during Lucario and the Mystery of Mew's production status, Mantyke, Buoysel, Chatot, and Manaphy were also in sihlouette form during the making of "Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea". Heck, the only non-new-gen pokemon so far to actually get sihlouette status/stickered-up status was Notched-Eared Pichu.). In other words, no, they HAVEN'T had a hidden crowd of new-gen pokemon before.

Well, I was going with fact-based speculation, having the anime BF as precedent. If I had to guess how they might go about it, it would be that, or there is possibility of an OI treatment.

No, I didn't elaborate on the fan criticisms of BF, as I figured to be subjective, but you summed it up fine. My main issues would be on the Contest arc and the lack of appearances for the Frontier Brains (save for Brandon).

You should write more on how Leaf got shafted, because I'm hearing ya. With everything else wrong with the series, I admit, I haven't paid much attention to Leaf. I will, now.

As for the producers' revelations about Misty's removal: it is wrong, but I suppose I should be grateful they were finally honest about themselves. I'd rather have that than hypocrisy.

As for the 4Kids dub error:

True, but that's not on the Japanese side of things, as I was merely trying to point out that the Sevii Islands have been featured in the anime. Frankly, the Japanese producers should have done more with the Islands, but that's the way it goes. As they say, don't blame the Japanese production for any English dub wankery, and the reverse.

It's on PUSA's shoulders, and we'll see if they'll adhere to dub continuity or the Japanese one. Then again, in Cynthia's intro episode, PUSA dubbed the park they were in as Amity Square, when it wasn't. So, if anything, PUSA may yet be the reverse (assigning canon dub terms for places with no official name).

True, the OI-esque journey would be a possibility as well.

No, I didn't elaborate on the fan criticisms of BF, as I figured to be subjective, but you summed it up fine. My main issues would be on the Contest arc and the lack of appearances for the Frontier Brains (save for Brandon).

The lack of appearances of the Battle Frontier Brains wasn't the part that annoyed me, it was the fact that the majority of them, even Brandon to a certain extent, were played out to be nothing more than Gym Leaders, even though it was heavily implied in the games and even the anime that they were considered to be far stronger than the Elite 4.

You should write more on how Leaf got shafted, because I'm hearing ya. With everything else wrong with the series, I admit, I haven't paid much attention to Leaf. I will, now.

Maybe I could, but not here.

As for the producers' revelations about Misty's removal: it is wrong, but I suppose I should be grateful they were finally honest about themselves. I'd rather have that than hypocrisy.

While I am grateful about their honesty (really, that part, as well as the Tracey thing, were the only times where they were truly honest, since the writers had a bit of a track record for lying, like the Ash's father appearing in Master Quest stuff, and something similar during ComicCon.), the reasons of her removal still seemed somewhat hypocritical.

In case you're wondering what I meant by that, I mean that they had earlier replaced Brock under similar pretenses (IE, they tried to replace him because they feared the international fanbase would hate him for being "too asian"), and then they realized their error, so they decided to bring him back, and keep him on the cast. Since replacing female characters just so they will be eye-candy/fanservicy bimbettes is way too similar to the reason why they replaced Brock, I saw that as being a hypocritical action.

I know, it's just that I was pointing out that it was at least partially 4Kids fault that some fans believe that the Sevii Islands were never covered in the Anime.

I like my idea as more of a possibility since they didn't replace Haruka with Leaf.
