I know this sounds like a pointless subject, but it can be a useful reference for people making their own Pokemon games, and thinking of an Elite Four to make for it.

Take me, for example. A friend and I are making our own Pokemon game on RPG Maker XP. I originally made the game on the inspiration of a roleplay that my three best friends and I were doing when Gen III was new. We decided that we'd go to a new region and be the Elite Four there.

The thing is, my three best friends are all guys.

My friend, who works very hard alongside me to advance our project, brought up that a cast of all-male Elite Four (and a male Champion, as well) would come off sexist to a few people.

So I did a pseudo-bet with him. I'd post a poll on PokeCommunity and ask the general consensus of the community: Is an all-male Elite Four sexist?

If I won (ergo, more votes saying no), we'd maintain the current roster.

If he won (ergo, more votes saying yes), we'd change it up.

So what do you all think? Is it sexist? Or is my friend overreacting?

I also made sure to make a lot of female Gym Leaders in our game. There is a 5:5 ratio of male:female Gym Leaders in the region of our game.

I really don't see it as sexist. Yeah it doesn't correctly perceive women as being strong Pokemon trainers, but imo you could make up for that by making the last gym leader female. Eh.

Some people are offended by everything. You could very well say that woman only groups *cough*Erika's gym*cough* are sexist as well, since they don't allow men into the groups. It isn't sexist if you just happen to have male best friends.

That doesn't seem sexist to me. I mean...I really don't get offended by things that easily though, so it could just be me. But as long as you aren't intentionally trying to be sexist, I don't think you are being sexist. Just because your friends are all guys doesn't mean that the E4 can't be either without it being sexist =)

I don't see a problem with it. I mean, as long as you don't outright say "WOMEN AREN'T AS STRONG AS MEN LOLOLOLOLOL", then it's really not sexist.

What would be a tad bit more sexist would be if all the Gym Leaders were also male. Some people wouldn't complain, but then there are always the killjoys that have to complain about everything.

Eh, you'll be okay, I think. I'd like to put at least one girl in there, just to change things up, but if you're modeling this after your best friends, etc, then go for the all-male E4. It won't kill anyone, and anyone who does have a problem with it has too much time on their hands lol.

I never even noticed that the existing E4's were formatted to have at least one female trainer until reading this thread. XD

If I"m any indication, nobody would notice, let alone care. :P

It wouldn't be sexist unless there is a banner saying "we chose an all male elite four because men > women". >_> (I trust you won't do that though)

The all-male elite four isn't talking down on women at all. The line-up just happens to be male. If you interpret it that way, then you're thinking is sexist. :/

The all-male Elite Four is made up of characters that me and my three best friends made. My three best friends and I just happen to be male.

For consolation, not only is the last Gym Leader female (Poison-type, for those who are curious), but the Fire-type Gym Leader AND the Dragon-Type Gym Leader are both female...

Oh, and the last three Gym Leaders are all female lolz. (Flying, Fire, Poison)

Only sexist if you have a reason why a female cannot be part of the E4. If it's because a female isn't as strong as the E4s, that's fair.

I almost think it would be worse to put in a token female character just because she would be female.

Don't forget that the player is going to beat the E4 and since you can choose to play a female character you, the player, can make a female character the strongest if you so choose.

It would be boring. Female trainers interst me more than males. Not sexist though.

No I don't at all. I never even really took note that there was never a female champion till I played Diamond. Hahaha thats how little I took notice.
