As the title states, what do you think about police in your country? Are they effective? Do you trust them?

As for me, seeing as my own father is a police officer, I do indeed trust the police. As for the police near my area, I trust them too. Australian police aren't too bad, but I've heard American police are horrible. D8 The local police around where I live are pretty effective. They keep the area clean from druggies and rapists, etc.

    Soooo, what about you? :)

Our police force is to busy taking bribes, to enforce the law.
Even though the actual workforce isn't that bad, they've been given a bad name, because of the idiots controlling them in my region.

I think they're power-drunk morons who'll arrest/give anyone a ticket just because they can. But I may be biased. I come from a family of illegal street racers... :/

I have a lot of respect for the Police in my country i think they do their jobs well. I just hate it when people give them attitude for doing their jobs.

I'd like to think the police are all thugs. In my hometown I know of a few cops who stole from a friend's house right in front of everyone, but it's not like you can say no to the guys with guns. I also know another cop with a very short fuse, but he spends every moment he's not on duty taking care of his wife who has an incurable and debilitating disease. I still don't trust the police, but I know at least some of them are decent human beings so I can't hate them as a whole.

Edit: Forgot to say I'm talking about the US of A.

Not really sure. I'm looking into law enforcement as a career and I got to interview the chief of police here. He was a really nice guy, really knew what he was talking about, and has a lot of respect. I mean, not saying that this guy's personality is the entire aspect of his police force, but I think that does give out something about the authorities here. Well, maybe.

You can't really generalize the entire American police population because different states and counties have they own set of laws for their citizens to abide to. Arizona police in the county I live near are very strict and are really harsh on traffic laws. I live in California and the police here in this county (San Bernardino) are ... laid back a little I guess? I actually don't really know them. Regardless, I have respect for anyone in the force in the world.

I think they're good people who often suffer abuse from most of our society for simply trying to protect civilians and do their job. It's a big problem here in my country, where pretty much everything that happens during riots and such is suddenly their fault.

    I think they're not.

They're not honest with everything. Especially if someone paid them just for the people who didn't follow the rule wouldn't get an offence. >.>

Well, it depends on where you are in America... though most of the issues people have with them are based on their own activities and/or the fact that there are 300 million people in this country and some of them are wealthy enough to corrupt an area's police force.

The FBI itself is quite effective, though. Case in point: corruption suspicions in a local Gang Strike Force group resulted in all cooperating parties involved shutting down the operation right away, and the FBI working swiftly to investigate and prosecute the corruption.

IMO, it's the relative minority of cops that give the rest of them a bad rap. Most cops are good people.

Yes, I actually do trust the cops. I always have. They only thing I hate is that every time they see a skateboarder, they automatically think they're up to no good. That's kind of a stereotype. It may be true skateboarders are usually up to no good, but not all of them are. My friends and I don't do anything bad or anything against the law, and we skate.

When they're not raping women (and men, sometimes), making sex tapes; shooting themselves; shooting others; shooting innocent civilians; running them over; bribing the families; going on serial killing sprees and the like the cops here do their job pretty well. After all they only have one tazer in the entire country and all.

    The police here are hot.

We interviewed one for our media assignment, he was hot. And the other one... well, my friend thought he was hot. :D

But overall, like, even when the police came over after the robbery, they were nice... and actually caught one of the people that broke in, so they're pretty good.

Pictures or it didn't happen. :P *gets shot by those two policemen*

    Haha, oh my gosh, I live in that county and I agree with you (ran to county policemen a couple of times). XD;

Anyways, as far as I'm concern, for the most part in my area there are those that are just laid back and they won't come to the crime scene until a few minutes after, which is one of the things I don't like about the police overall. :x However, then there are some that are very effective and get the job done quickly after hearing some local news, so it's not all bad I guess.

Our police, SWAT and bomb squad teams in the Philippines are one of the organized armed groups in our country. They run most effectively in the presence of a high rank officer(lol).

In my community, about one out of three cops is a bad egg that has nothing better to do than disperse tickets among any and every living creature that crosses his/her path.

I don't know what the money is for(maybe tax? Or recreational purposes for the police?).

TBH, Mexican Police sucks more than Blissey with Choice Band: crime rates are getting higher everyday, strangled people hanging in public places (at least 1 everyday), innocent victims killed, and ex-cops who turn out to be commiting a (eff)load of crimes; sometimes even more than regular criminals.

To add to that, they can only be trusted when you "buy" them; that's right - if you've commited an infraction, they'll insist on getting bribed. I guess we're all used to that now...

Okay, I thought the chief of police was damn fine as the rest of his men too. >_> I was trying not to drool and stare too much when I was interviewing him. I never met him before either, so he was a surprise. Hur. I can say the same thing about the firefighters here too.

I'm always back and forth between Arizona and California since I live, like on the border of the two states. xD Now that I think about it, the police here are more forgiving for young drivers, as in teens. One of my friends was pulled over and he doesn't have a driver's license. The cop just told him to drive straight home and let him off with a warning. It's a different story if its a repeated offender. The police do get tired of seeing your face all the time.
