    Hello everyone!

All the time, my friends (were around 15/16 years old) say that the older generation was much cooler and better than the new ones. But I really disagree with them, because there are many new cool ones too. For sure: there are some new **** pokémon, like Bronzong. I mean, that's just...crap. (At least, that's my opinion). But there are also cool new ones, like the evercooly Spiritomb, Rhyperior and all the new evolutions like Magnezone etc.
Well: what do you think? Please give some arguments for your opinion too!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, I have to agree with you. From what i've seen of Gen I (a few videos) it doesen't look too exciting. I prefer FRLG xD.

I started playing Pokemon when I first got either Ruby/Emerald/FireRed. (damn can't remember lol) I thought Gen III was amazing.

And then I started joining Pokemon forums on the internet. And I saw this.
    "GEN III SUCKS!"
    "LOL GEN III FAILS!"
    "GEN III SUCKED AS HELL!"
"LAWL EVERY GEN PWNZ GEN III LMFAO!"
    etc. etc.

You can guess I get pissed whenever I see anyone posting stuff like this. It makes me want to hit something.

Because Emerald was frigging great. FRLG too. R/S.. not so much.
Still.. people needs to love Gen III and IV some more. Well enough, G/S/C was full of things to do and stuff, but.. Gen III and IV also has loads of stuff to do.

PS: to anyone who likes to post one of the sentences above, please don't tell me i'm stupid/noobish/whatever. ^_^

I can see why people don't like the new gens. Gen 1 and 2 were truely the best, and Gen 3 and 4 cannot compare, in my opinion at least.

Hmm. I'm on the fence on this one. Generations I & II will always be the best for me not only because they where what got me into Pokémon in the first place, but also because Johto happens to be my favourite Region ever. Whilst I love Gens III and IV (not so much FR/LG as RSE, and not so much D/P as Plt), for me they just miss that enthusiastic click that I & II provided me with. But that's cool with me, because III and IV have introduced a whole new wave of fans to the Pokémon universe, fans who will feel about III and IV what I felt for I and II.

Everyone is going to have their preference, of course, and you cannot deny their opinions no matter what yours happen to be.

That's exactly it. IN YOUR OPINION. Everyone is entitaled to their own opinion. Still, this is how I rate the generations (remakes not included, they make a mess of things by... doing nothing.)

1st, best, whatever: 4th. The graphics (which are pretty big in a pokemon game) rock, the new pokemon were cool (because even the useless ones like Probopass looked awesome.), and it just gave a good sense overall.

2nd, close, whatever: 3rd. People always hate on Gen3, but it was the first graphically good game (With some of the better sprites) in the series. And, though some pokemon were worse clones, at LEAST it wasn't all bad (Cradawnt was better then, and some of the others outdid the clones... Swellow is still one of the best Normal/Flying types). Face it: you didn't want to use Infernape because it was the same type as Blazekin for a reason.

3rd, getting worse, whatever: 2nd. People love this and gen1 because of the nostalgia, but NOSTALGIA SHOULDN'T BE A FACTOR! I started with Silver, and while I loved it, it didn't age well at all! (oh, and to those of you who say "Ruby and Saphire had nothing", I counter with "Gold and Silver had less, the postgame was horrid, (that wasn't Kanto, it was Kanto cut in half) and the starters all sucked". Well, except for DPPt Feraligatr...

4th, worst, whatever: 1st. Anyone remember the Mew Glitch? Missingno. and the glitch pokemon? Tauros and Alakazam having a crit hit rate of about 25%? Persian and Venusaur getting insta-crits on Slash and Razor Leaf? Psychic's complete dominance? The whole game kinda felt like a beta to me, after going back and playing it after all these years.

EDIT: First line was directed at Tokoto, not PM_Moraty: he posted while I was typing.

Is this discussion really specific to the games? I'm sure the anime play a large part on the opinions of people.

I think one of the important factors to the discussion is that people don't like change. I'm sure they wouldn't be saying the same thing if the generations of Pokemon were released in a different order. The original is often the most memorable, thus, the best.

I've always liked the first and second generations of Pokemon over the newer ones for the same reason. Although there isn't really anything wrong with the newer generations, I prefer the older ones possibly due to nostalgic reasons.

Personally my favorite is Gen 2, Better storyline, better Pokemon and I just enjoyed it the most and Gen 1 comes a close second. Generations III & IV, though, were pretty **** IMO (Save for FR/LG, I enjoyed them).

I think that dp is when things really fell apart. before that they had some stupid things like deoxys being a mutated space virus from a metiorite, I mean sereiously?! anyway I think it peaked at gsc because it had two regions, a great storyline, and not many "stuiped" pokemon. I think the weird pokemon did it for me because before you were able to actully look at a pokemon and invision it (with a few minor edits, and a new paint job) as being a some-what real creature, but now that's all gone. Infact I don't even look at most of new games now, just because of that. *phew* I've been wanting to rant about that for some time now.

Storyline? None of the games every really had a story (although it isn't the extent of Mario games yet), and most of the GSC events were there to patch up the fact that Johto was horridly designed.

Again with the storyline. As I said previously, both regions were horridly butchered, and that ruined it. And pokemon aren't SUPPOST to always be normal creatures, they can be weird if they like. To counter your "Old pokemon aren't wierd", what exactly is Lickitung suppost to be? What about Snorlax? Tangela? Blissey? They don't really have any real counterparts.

And don't get me started on the legendaries.

I like all the generations because they were all awesome. I think the anime might have some reason people don't like Gen III you know with the whole Misty leaving. The other thing I hear people say is that you couldn't go back to Johto and Kanto in R/S/E so that was like automatically fail to them.

GenIII is probably my least favorite because of FR/LG, R/S/E were magnificent but FR/LG was such a let down. I'm mean everyone was getting all hyped up about R/G being remade onto GBA and then when it came out it was just a big load of nothing. I know it's a remake but actually try to add something new into that doesn't happen after the Elite 4. The Sevii islands were such a big waste of time. Also I didn't like the way Red looked, I liked it when he wore Red and White clothes not those ones in FR/LG. His hair and face didn't look good either in FR/LG, they should have just kept him with the cap covering his face.

This wasn't meant to offend anyone who disagrees but just my IMO, so no flaming from FR/LG lovers please.

I don't have any experience on the older generations, but the Pokemon from them look good. I prefer most of the Gen IV Pokemon, though... But there are always some. COUGHBIDOOFANDBIBARELCOUGH.

And who knows what Generation V will bring? I couldn't come up with too many designs after I saw one hundred, but there's like, Five times that much!

Lol.I liked FR/LG, but that's coz i'd never played the originals.

I like Platinum, and Diamond (although not quite as much).

Emerald still has the best Battle Frontier.

BUT, i will admit there is one major failure in both later Gens (not counting rremakes)

R/S/E: No inclusion of Kanto + Johto!!I reckon they should have added this onto Johto. However, it would've been difficult to insert Rocket AND Magma vs. Aqua.
    Drags on a bit.

D/P/Pt: No inclusion of Hoenn. That could''ve been done, with Archie and Maxie fighting over just restarting the world using Dialga and Palkia.
Slow games, even if the storyline advances fast.

Hg/Ss looks the best for me, with better graphics, it'll work faster yet than Pt (almost as fast as 3rd Gen!!), and two full regions in it.

I grew up with generation 1 and 2, so I like them the best. They' ve got that special feeling with them...
That doesn't mean I don't like the other generations, I actually enjoy playing the third generation also a lot (Deoxys is weird indeed, but event-exclusive, so I never take that into consideration), and while I dislike some things about the fourth like its slowness (actually that's the only thing I can think of now), I still like it for some of the improvements it brought, like the physical-special-split which was overdue.

IF YOU STICK MORE THAN ONE REGION IN A GAME, THE GAME ISN'T GOOD! Look at Johto WITHOUT nostalgia, and the region is just to linear and bland! But DPPt (and RSE, but Hoenn was a copy of the first generation region design wise) did well with their region and did things CORRECTLY! No putting others in and botching it up at all!

The reason in R/S/E why they didn't in Johto and Kanto because it was the same time line as Kanto so someone other hero was doing stuff there, also they didn't want to do it since it would have been a waste of time for them.

Also Archie and Maxie wouldn't be fighting over to restart the world, they become good to a certain extent near the end of R/S/E.

Johto and Kanto were by far the most interesting regions. Hoenn had some good scenery and interesting locations, but it loses a lot of points because half my time in that game is always spent surfing around in water.

Sinnoh was useless and forgettable. With the other three games there was always a sense of excitement whenever you came to a new place, but the only truly memorable and cool design for a city in Sinnoh was Snowpoint--the others were just bland and uninteresting. The city designs were forgettable, the gym leaders were forgettable, the Pokémon were forgettable (except when they were atrocious enough to be memorable), and I've no desire whatsoever to go back through and play through it again, whereas I'd gladly play through any of the other three generations...as long as it's Emerald and not R/S when I play through Hoenn.

With regards to Generation III, I've always thought that R/S were pretty terrible compared to what came before, but Emerald and FRLG were vast improvements and I probably prefer FRLG to the original RB. Yes, it was a letdown not being able to go to another region in Hoenn, and (at first) missing half of the Pokémon, but the cool locations and graphics made up for that. I was a Pokémon fan from the original games, but I think FRLG were admirable remakes of the originals and I appreciate the additions of the Sevii Islands.

When you are young, things tend to imprint more. As you grow older, things stick less and less.

Folks, here's a prime example of nostalgic feelings. Give him a round of applause!
