I like the idea of competitive battling because I have always loved strategy games and the whole deal with the invisible IVs, EV training, and different movesets - both learned and taught to and tutored to or passed down to the egg - gives Pokemon battling a new angle to approach things at.
What I don't/won't like is repetition - people spamming the same Pokemon, movesets, and techniques over and over and over again.
I used to be a big fan of the old fighter games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, and Soul Calibur and part of the fun, in my opinion, was found in working with the different characters and their unique moves and abilities.
On the other hand, I had a friend who kept using certain characters and certain characters only and would always, always, ALWAYS go through (or try to go through) a classic series of moves. It got boring playing against him really quick as it didn't take long to predict everything because he never really changed anything.
In the case of Pokemon, I don't fully agree with the various clauses being implemented in competitive battling (sleep once, frozen once, etc), but that's because I see positives and negatives in all of the different Pokemon and I see the different abilities and movesets as being reflective of the Trainer's preference for strategy.
Sleep, for example, has a 30ish% chance of missing last I looked while a major hard hitter who is both IV and EV and item-beefed up is using a move that has a 100% accuracy rate could potentially OHKO someone in one hit, guaranteed.
Furthermore, the one who can do the Hypnosis more or less has a higher chance of being OHKOed than a more physically beefy type.
To me, such an ability is offset by a lack in physical constitution and physical strength.
But hey, that's just my opinion.
I did mention that the community there was somewhat rude to members; it's somewhat relevant. And no, I haven't said anything "stupid" the time I was there, or attacked a reg/respected member. I just didn't like how they treated some people in there. I don't want to be associated with such people due to the attitudes giving me a bad vibe.
Also, I know it was for the lolz about the SpecsChomp thing, but due to the fact I'm bad with numbers [I don't do EVs/IVs and similar things because of it] and how it sounds so overly-complicated with a gazillion acronyms and terms that I avoid it. It's not only the people, it's because it's just plain freaking hard personally. >_<;
I'm so dumb for not getting it, I guess.
You're not dumb at all.
I consider myself 'good with numbers' and I still have problems trying to figure out how everything works into the grand scheme of the end statistics.
