Why is that Pokémon that type?

Let us share our annoyance at some of the typing Game Freak gave some Pokemon. I'll start:

Palkia, Water/Dragon. Seriously? Water? What does that have to do with Space? :S It should have been Pyshic/Dragon, awesome!

Infernape. stupid Blaziken copier, though Blaziken should have been Fire/Flying, then that's be a Charizard copy, which brings us to the debate of that being part Dragon or even a Bird type being made for Blaziken.

Pidgeotto, Fearow, Swellow, Staraptor (OMG only 3-Stage one out of them :o, just realised xD). Why are these evolved goodnesses part Normal? They should be plain Flying or even Bird types... But I guess being part Normal gives them STAB from some moves.

What are some, or all of your typing peeves?

Gyarados. Water/Flying. Seriously, can that thing fly? It should be Water/Dragon, I don't care about Gyarados becoming broken after that, but yeah, it should be Water/Dragon.

    toooooo many !!

Gyarados - what !? just why is it flying type..bcoz it can learn bounce by MT ?? what a mighty good reason..
Gastly line - I don't get it ...what's so poisonous about them if they can't learn a single poison move via level up
Pinsir - A single bug move(none untill gen 4),6 fighting move and you're telling me it's a pure bug type !!
Stantler - OMG !!that thing learns 5 psychic moves and isn't a part psychic type...what's going on ??
Palkia - no comments...seriously.. what were they thinking ??

well did you know that in lots of world myths space was created out of the sea of nothingness, plus it's game is called pearl... specking of pearls huntail should have been Water/dark, and gorebyss should have been Water/Psychic not pure Water.

Well i already explain palkia, but Gyarados has no explaination, I agree on pinsir and Stantler, as for Gastly well it's a ball of poison gasssssssssssss.
I also don't like lugia being part Psychic/flying it should be Water/flying...

I don't really have type peeves, but ones that are Water/Ground or Water/Rock always seemed a little odd to me. I think Whiscash is the primary culprit in this situation, since I automatically think "it's a fish, it's water, use electric!" when I see it, then the game goes "Oh by the way you can't do that."

Crawdaunt - Why is it dark? They are based on crustaceans...There is absolutely no reason for it to be dark...
Gyrados - Why is it flying? It has no wings or feathers. It can't learn fly. It's based on a Dragon/sea serpent. Shouldn't it be dragon?
Palkia - Why is it water? No evidence of it having anything to do with water. There is absolutely no reason for it to be water... That's SO RANDOM.

I understand Charizard. If he was dragon/fire he would be extremely overused and powerful. He would also have a great type advantage. You don't want an innocent kanto starter end up being a super uber dragon monster, would you?

    Hopefully i'll think of more...

Space was formed out of the sea of nothingness look up babolonian mythology and even greek mythology mentions something, plus in the bible it said the earth was created on a turtle, the turtle is swimming in water isn't it if the earth is the turtle then the water must be space, As for Crawdaunt what does being a Crustacean have to do with being dark or any other type for that matter, it's dark because it's a Dark looking pokemon, just look at it, it's design screams dark.

To address some of the peeves brought up in this thread:

Gastly/Haunter/Gengar - The obvious one. It was simply for balance, otherwise they'd be among the most powerful Pokémon in the G1 arena.
Gyarados - I believe that it's based on a myth, in which the developers believed Water/Flying best fit the bill.
Palkia - As Magma/Aqua explained, the relations between water and space are much more common than people may think (due to said mythology). Our terminology illustrates this quite well: Astronaut, Spaceship, Magellanic Cloud, etc.
Any Flying/Normal - Does it matter? All it does is eliminate Normals Fighting weakness.
Pinsir - Possibly another balance issue, trying to avoid giving it a double-weakness- but that does bring about questions regarding Heracross...
Crawdaunt - Behaviour, mostly. They'll often prey on or simply kill any wish caught unawares.
Infernape - Having it be Fire/Fighting makes more sense than Blaziken- but Blaziken could be based off **** Fighters, so that also stands.
Whiscash - Catfish are bottomfeeders, keeping mostly to riverbeds. It makes sense.
Charizard - Also a balance issue. I doubt we'd ever get a Dragon starter.

Anyways, something that always puzzled me was, why make combinations that give a Pokèmon a double-weakness at all? That simply makes countering them all too easy, provided you have the right type with you.

Another problem is the simple fact that Ghost/Dark combo gives you 3 immunities and no weaknesses. If Darkrai had this, he'd be truly scary indeed.

I don't have much of a problem w/ gyarados, but I DO have a problem with mantine.
It seriously should be able to fly. SERIOUSLY.
I'd say the same thing about Palkia, but MRAS cleared that up for me. It's interesting to think of it that way, thanks for stopping me from an idiotic rant there MRAS.
As fro crawdaunt, it's a perfectly good typing combo IMO... There isn't a single other water/dark, and just making it water would sorta make it a Krabby/Kingler clone.
Also-- Ghost dark is a rare sort of special and epic typing combo for some particular pokemon. One of them is a legendary anyway, and I'm pretty sure there's only one other (Sableye!). Maybe it's just that I don't have a problem with it (Haha, Ghost type fanboy right here).

Quagsire annoys me. When I see him, I think, "Blue. Water type. It's a water-type that's blue. Water weak to lightning. Go Ampharos!" (yes, that is how my thought process goes. Mock me if you will)

And then I realise that he's part Ground type, get super annoyed and just beat him to death with whatever I have on hand. Usually Rock Climb. (Yes, my Ampharos has Rock Climb. There's nothing wrong with that, right?)

Then there are those whose types seem counter-productive, like Chinchou. I mean, it's Water/Electric. It lives in the ocean. How does it not kill all the other Water-types?

Well, the only one I can think of is the Gyrados situation, which I think has been a debate forever. Other than that, I can't say too much, I mean, they just wanted to mix some up, just give the game a little more fictional value, other than just having one type for every Pokemon.

You are welcome, I think Darkrai should have been Ghost if not Dark/Ghost but i don't think they wanted another Ghost pokemon after Giratina, plus Dark/Ghost would make Darkrai super Uber, it would beat Arceus off it's throne, lol that would be Arceus' worsest nightmare.

Gaaaaaah. Excuse me for being an idiot and thinking darkrai is ghost type...
Well, on the other hand, that backs up my Dark/Ghost argument, 'cus now I can say:
It's not really that big of a deal, the typing is just something special they gave to a single pokemon to make it less unoriginal, and more of a desirable pokemon to use.

Sableye isn't the only Dark/ Ghost Spritomb is Also Dark/Ghost. I think Onyx should have been Dragon/Rock because it's base on a wyrm, a type of dragon and Stelix should have been Steel/Dragon, like Diagla.

I found out recently about Jirachis' and Tyranitars' typing (I never really bothered to look it up) Tyranitar a dark type? I can understand its fustration, its the same thing with Primape! I think it should be fighting/rock, or ground/rock. And Jirachis' type, I never knew it was a steel type until I got one at the event. To me it seems like it should be normal/psychic or flying/psychic. And do not get me started with Gyarados lol.

    Grrr... CHARIZARD SHOULD BE Fire/Dragon!!!

Anyway, I thought Empoleon's Steel/Water should be changed to Ice/Water. IT'S A FRIKEN' PENGUIN, NOT A ROBOTIC PENGUIN!

Dang it. Thanks for making me look like an idiot... I'll eventually find one where no one can outsmart me.

Haha, sorry! Keep trying, you can do it!

Also, can I say, people seem to be upset about some fairly average typings.
Although I do agree with Jirachi's, through personal experience...
Steel/Psychic just has obnoxiously good defense/sp. def.
