i'm thinking that the useless abilities should just be programmed into the pokemon. im talking about ones like slow start and the slakoths ability. i understand they wanted to make them seem realistic, but those being abilities is just NO. they should be programmed into them some other way, so then they can have actual abilities along with those effects.

and i think same for pickup, and maybe run away

  • Regigigas and Slaking are fine the way they are. I wouldn't mind seeing dual abilities though.

  • Hmm, maybe.

As for Pickup and Run Away, they could just give them in-battle uses. Like Pickup Pokémon can't have their item knocked off (or maybe stolen too) and Run Away Pokémon can switch even if the opponent uses Mean Look, etc.

For the negative abilities, they probably just want a way for the Pokémon to mention that fact. Otherwise you'd have to look up its Pokédex data or something. What if they gave them secondary effects as well? Like Truant makes them recover some HP during the loafing around turn. I'm not sure what Slow Start could do.

The Pickup you mentioned is practically Sticky Hold; though the Run Away is a pretty good idea.

Regigigas and Slaking are fine the way they are. Though that's what Skill Swap and Worry Seed are for.

IMO the best solution for this is just to make sure each Pokémon has at least one ability that helps it in-battle; like Furret, IIRC it has Run Away(useless in-battle) and Keen Eye (prevents acuraccy loss).
    Something like that.

Regigigas and Slaking would be deadly without those abilities, would you want a pokemon with 150 base hp, 160 base attack, and 100 defense and speed running around without a leash?

    ^ I agree.

Dual abilities would be really good :D
I don't really think an ability is useless. Some or ok, some are great.

im not talking about getting rid of them. im talking about having them programmed into the pokemon, not as abilities, but so they can have an actual ability in place while still having slow start/traunt. like shuckles berry ability in g/s/c.

I read that shuckle still has the berry ability somewhere...good connection it could work :)

Then that makes them completely useless, because you can't Skill Swap or Worry Seed Truant and Slow Start if they're not abilities. They thought it through pretty well, y'know.

I do agree with Pick up/Run Away having extra abilities - particularly for Run Away to make you able to run/switch while trapped.

epic fail, probably the stupidest post ive read so far on PC that wasnt spam.

basically ur sayin, lock down the big beasties permanently, and get rid of free items& pokemon that can run away when you really need it, thats just stupid.

basically that tosses out the idea of ever gettin more than 1earthquake
    more evolution stones like dawn,dusk,&shiny
    rare candies exc.

    definitely Epic Fail.

Seriously? Are you that much of a child? To put someone's thoughts down like that when it's just a simple idea? THAT, sir, is an epic fail. Another epic fail is your ability to recognize that "stupidest" is not a word.

As for the original intention of the OP, I don't... Quite get what you're saying. Are you saying that the abilities should be locked into the Pokemon, so they can't be swapped with Skill Swap? Or are you getting more towards a dual-abilities thing of sorts?

After reading some replies, I think I get the basic structure of your idea: to have innate properties of Pokemon, then their abilities. On second thought, that sounds like a pretty good idea. It's getting more towards the Personality Description of Pokemon, but yeah, I could go for it.

Stealth Rock says hi, although I guess it wouldn't work in that example. :\
