I actually like HGSS better, because Silver was my favourite pokemon game of all time. I also enjoyed Platinum (as well as Diamond) but right i'm more into HGSS. But HGSS do have their weak points. For one, all the gym leaders in Kanto are pretty much the same level. And it doesn't make much sense that beating the E4 is such a great deal when just a train away, there are gym leaders whose pokemon are stronger than the champion and that the people from Kanto who have beaten the Kanto gym leaders would obviously not take the E4 as much of a challenge. I think it would be better if the first Kanto gym leader was as weak as Falkner and the Blue was as strong (or maybe stronger) than Claire. And we'd get to choose a Kanto Starter after the E4,that way,you can't use your old pokemon :D and it'd be like a whole new game! and the plot's just way too short -.-

I loved both games, but for me HG/SS wins pretty comfortably. Those games are the pinnacle of the remakes, no doubt. The graphics were amazing, plus the Nostalgia wave from the originals hits you like a brick.

    So hard!!
I loved platinum and team galactic(especially their battle theme).
Overall, Platinum was really fun, you could catch lots of legendaries in game. The story was good.

But I prefer HG and SS over Platinum because it had many more features and I especially liked the walk with your pokemon. ANd for some reason, I feel like starting it again and again and again. For some reason, when I was battling rocket at goldenrod, I felt really happy and I just enjoyed it. WHen I beat team rocket once and for all, I actually got sad.

So I would pick HGSS over Platinum.

I thought i might aswell add my tuppence worth.

Although i really enjoyed Platinum, i thought it was too similiar to games such as FR/LG. Which, of course, isnt a bad thing!

However, i believe the playability, and the new features in HG/SS is a big step forward and i love it.

Obviously we can all say what we miss about the new games, but overall i think its a good move!

Thats my say anyways. I would love to see a re-make of FR/LG with the original pokeon though, i could be wishing.

Eventually we could have a game that covers ALL the regions in one go! Wouldnt that be fun?

Well as the first post said that the Battle Frontier was new then but in HG/SS it just felt the same.
Plus Team Galactic was a lot tougher than the Team Rocket, and trainers in general were tougher in Platinum than in HG/SS.
But there were 2 regions in HG/SS compared to one in Platinum, however the wild Pokemon were a lot weaker in HG/SS and its a faff training your Pokemon to battle Red, as you have to call Gym Leaders at certain times etc.
So, IMO Platinum is a lot better than HG/SS

^^ yeah i totally agree with you.. x]

In my opinion, I preferred HGSS to Platinum by a lot.

There were two regions, which made the game much longer and the battle at the end was challenging because of such a high amount of levels between Blue and Red.
There were starters that were an actual challenge because the rival's pokemon was strong against your pokemon and not have one type weak against yours.
So Team Rocket were incredibly weak, but the storyline wasn't full of some random guy from a city under some roads, who was trying to make pokemon appear from inside a mountain.
The menu in HGSS is much simpler and the Pokedex and the PC are much easier to maneuver.

This is my opinion and Platinum was a fabulous game, but HeartGold and SoulSilver were much better.

Nice thread to read, since I've been wondering. My brother recently chose between Platinum and HG/SS and he got Platinum. Now I can tell him he made a good choice :) Since I think he never really played G/S a lot.

well i personally felt the HGSS definately were better than platinum. no one take me wrong, i loved platinum, but HGSS brought much more features to the main pokemon gaming streak and anyways, i was always a silver fan, so when it was remade, i couldn't beleive it.

P.S i love emerald too and it was one of the best pokemon games ever seeing that it brought most of the pokemon gaming features to life:
    1-diving which i personally loved
2-2 eavel teams plotting against eachother and the world
    3-double battles
bla bla bla, hundreds of the best aspects of pokegaming today, so a ruby and saphire remake would be awesome.

I'm a veteran player, so obviously I'd pick HG/SS because we all do.

Naw, I really think Platinum was better than HG/SS. It's way more challenging, it makes me have nightmares, and I love the entire plot.

HG/SS is amazing because it's nostalgic for me. However, I don't really see myself alaways playing it like crazy. It gets boring after Johto. The original games felt the same way to me. It was like "okay, you're champion of Johto, go fight some random people then you're done." I wish they would have maybe expanded more with the newer versions since they were able to hold more data.

I've played both, but I frequently dropped Platinum out of boredom-- mind you, I had finished Diamond beforehand, and even with the new story and added things, I found it kind of boring.
I have a bias of being a player of Pokemon from the start--honestly, HGSS was a joy-ride to me and I zoomed right through it and enjoyed in 100% more than DPPT.

So it's HGSS for me, sorry. D: Platinum was fun, but didn't hold my attention..

Platinum has a better story, in my opinion, but I found Soul Silver a lot more addictive, maybe because of the nostalgia.

Heart Gold and Soul Silver feel, to me at least, to be superior because while Platinum did bring..a few changes on top of D/P, HG/SS improved on a game that so many of us loved and adored as children, thus not only did they make us nostalgia hardcore, they also added some of the more addictive qualities that the Pokemon games after it came with, leading to a dangerous combination.

I agree with the vast majority posting here. HGSS has the edge for me, perhaps because I've been playing since the beginning and I remember playing Pokemon Gold and it blew me away with how I could beat both Johto and Kanto. Nostalgia ftw.

both are good in their own ways, for example i like platinum ALOT more but i find myself playing soul silver more because of the menus are alot easier to get around in and not constantly having to press buttons instead of tapping the screen. for me that was the main thing, it dosnt sound like much but to me its the difference, but most of what i do now is just do the battle tower and mess around with that stuff.

I mean it's all personal preference but in my opinion it's not really a contest between them.

Ho ho, I beg to differ. Platinum has several core advantages:

    *A much bigger primary region
*A longer and more difficult main quest
*A much better plot and evil team
*Better variety within the regional Dex
    *Higher-leveled rematches
*Featured the Battle Frontier and Global Terminal first
    *An extremely better difficulty curve
*More personality and character given to the Gym Leaders
*The underground, secret bases, and the villa

And that's just off the top of my head.

I think a better question would be does Pokémon Platinum surpass Pokémon Diamond and Pearl because Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver were made to be completely different from Platinum and shouldn't really be compared. However, if you look at the basic interface of both games (i.e. menus, bags and graphics), I would probably choose Heart Gold and Soul Silver due to more touch-screen gestures and crisper looking graphics.
