I couldn't agree more with this post (Hoenn ftw, the best region evur).

And from the fact that they've improved some aspects of the games such as the battling system and whatnot, in due time when a third game comes out, they can add in the little features that help improve generations. While I can agree the new Pokémon aren't the best made, I don't see how they are so bad either. A lot of them are simplistic, where most designs allow you to see what type they might be (herdier does look quite like the normal type, Petilil looks just as a grass type would etc.) whereas I guess some of them just have a lot going on (Emboar perhaps? Klinklang). But I mean once you go along through the game you get used to 'em, and they're really not so bad. I guess that's just how I see it anyway.

Not wanting to get too off topic talking about their designs here, Black and White really isn't that bad, as said. The storyline is great, and the character dialogue fit what happens throughout the game very well, I don't have nothing really bad to say about the games. The only thing I'd probably mention really, is how the game takes full on attention to little kids; seeing as it's very understandable and not really difficult at all to get through. I like challenges and unfortunately I don't think I really got very much from B/W. ...I remember throughout Ruby/Sapphire, the first time around I had to use a guide to get through Victory Road (meh, it was probably easy but I was little), and now it's really not that hard at all to reach the Elite Four. If anything, and from all the games really, I'd like to see more challenged situations, if that makes any sense.

Haha, funny part of the feature to lock in running shoes, is that I always held down B anyway.
But I see where you're coming from in how it's just not...advanced from the other generations, and I'd like to see that from Pokémon. Or at least from how I see it and from what I've said above, new generations should come with new challenges, and they've done that partially I'll admit, but I'd like to see the concepts become harder as well. Still, Black and White are pretty decent games and I like them. They're enjoyable with the storyline, battling system, characters and everything, and if I had to give it a rating from one to ten, I'd say an 8.5. (o:

One thing I did enjoy were the pun-names, Emboar, Serperior etc. I have yet to fully beat the game, as it crashed and I have to start over... any suggestions on starters? I wasn't overly pleased with Tepig. I usually do the Water starters, but I wasn't sure about Oshawott (spelling fail?). My buddy told me Snivy was a let-down, which I was actually going to use in the first place.

BW were the best. The 3D renderring engine was awesome. People thought the pokemon weren't so cool, ut they're awesome once you get to know them and see them animated in the anime. The story was epic, and the many many new features (like pokemon animated through out the whole battle) were G R E A T !!!

Overall, Gen V was great because of the new Pokemon introduced, as well as the storyline. The only thing I didn't really like was having to get Reshiram/Zekrom in order to proceed in the story and having to battle N right after catching it.

It took a few steps forward and a few steps back if you ask me. The storyline was much better than previous games, and the way the trainers you battled were never too strong helped get new trainers started. Upping the amount of trainers to battle greatly reduced the need to grind for gyms. The new TM system is more user friendly too.

As for Downsides... What the hell were they thinking when they designed the bag? They should have kept having the first pokemon in your party follow you (or made it optional) since I haven't met a single person that doesn't miss that feature. The gyms were a bit TOO easy, I understand wanting to make it easier for gamers new to the series- but I never ONCE had a problem in any of the gyms.

And the most conversed part of the game....The new pokemon. Every new generation has a handful of pokemon that different people despise for their looks, but this generation had a few more "bad eggs" than usual. They definitely need to hire some of the original designers of the first 150 back again. Other than that, they did a good job of putting some of the more desirable pokemon farther along in the game (like axew and rufflet)- which kept me changing up my party.

If nothing else, the game brought a bit of new life to the series- even if it still has kind of crappy graphics. But seriously? WTH is with the minigames? The Pokemon Musical is by far the lamest one yet. At least the Pokealathon didn't make me puke.

I loved the story, hated the fact that all gym leaders so far (I'm at the fifth gym) had 3 or less pokemon, and hated the fact that you battle Cheren right after leaving the city.

The game was great, but it could have been improved in some areas. My list of gripes:

    1. A better trainer gadget. The C-gear looks cool, but holy crap it's useless!

    2. Rematches. What happened here? This was a staple in every game since generation two and it was taken away just like that. It added some nice replay value and was great for leveling up back during the day. Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter since I found a code that lets me force one anyway.

    3. The safari zone sucked, so I'm glad it's gone. I'm still somewhat pissed that there's no Game Corner but I guess that's understandable when they were pressured to get rid of it by a nasty piece of legislation from the EU.

    4. Trading items would have been nice!

    5. I kind of wanted to be able to drive with the protagonists being much older. I guess that's nothing major and the bike still works fine, but It still bugs me a bit.

    6. Black City and White Forest was a great idea with poor execution. You start playing and the timer counts down. If you take your time like I did, then you can expect to see it disappear entirely. It's almost like a forced speed run since it's so difficult to fill them up. I used a cheat to fill mine since I was basically screwed otherwise.

these games did have some pretty good stuff that managed to save it. My list of Likes:

    1. Better Wifi. The random battle mode is a great timewaster. Being able to battle without friendcodes? Awesome!

    2. The new Pokemon are pretty good. They are the kind that tend to grow on you one you get used to them. My favorite one at the moment happens to be Genesect.

    3. The Battle Subway is a neat idea. I have high hopes for when the inevitable third version comes in.

    4. The story is the best in the main series so far. It doesn't beat XD or Mystery Dungeon but it does come close. I liked how they tried to do something different with Team Plasma and N has to be my favorite character in the series as of now. I would love to see him again in a future game!

    5. Unova was a great region like always.

    6. I used to be a skeptic of Triple and rotation battles, but they drew me in. They are much better in game than they are on paper. I also like how the battles are much faster than in previous games.

    7. The ability to re-use TM's is something that should have been in the series from the start! I'm glad they finally got around to letting you do that!

    ttly the new p/c

tbh? They were the best games I've played. Replayability kinda sucks, but on the plus side, awesome music, awesome Pokemon, no past gen Pokemon being found in the first part of the game, deeper storyline, really good cutscenes... I'm just a fan of them overall. :x If anything, I had fun exploding the region. Uh, exploring, but sure exploding it would be fun too. Plus, the Royal Unova = amazing. Idk, just overall, the games are pretty awesome. If only there was trainer rematches for everyone, better graphics when zoomed out and more to do post-game, the games would be perfect. Oh, and a larger region. Unova's too small. :( Though that's just a brief overview, there's a looot more things that make B/W the best games ever to me.

    Well...

Battle-wise? It hasn't changed at all. Rotation battles were gimmicky and didn't get anywhere near enough exposure - I actually forgot they were there - and battle animation is hardly something new...we've had it since Crystal. Constant repetetive motion isn't exactly breaking boundaries here. It was nice to see projectile attacks actually connect with an enemy instead of striking the space above them for a change, but the games have been getting better at conveying a sense of motion over the years anyway, this was something I was expecting.

Gameplay wise, this took several steps backwards, right back to Diamond and Pearl. What happened to all the extra features that were present in HG/SS that added life to the game? Why can't I re-battle Gym Leaders? The little things like that that brought me back to the game, where have they all gone? Once you finished the main story, there really wasn't that much to do, and that in order to get the most out of Black City/White Forest you needed to link with someone else nearby was a huge flaw. We've been online for a few years now - why not online linking? For solitary gamers like myself, it was extremely hard to get the most out of it and, even getting the most from it, it paled in comparison to HG/SS.

This was such a hard game to get into, as well...mostly because you only had access to a couple of Pokemon along the first few routes, and these were not Pokemon I wanted to use. My starter was approaching level 20 by the time I'd beaten the first Gym Leader, and was my only Pokmeon. I was not a happy Buneary. It took a long time before the game finally gave me some Pokemon I wanted to use, and not being able to trade until you beat the first gym was a nuisance as well, because I couldn't even ask someone to give me something decent. It was like the game was doing its utmost to get me to stop playing it, and it almost worked...

I don't see why people are so taken with the story...it's barely there. In a series where the story is exactly the same in each instalment, just with a different team and taking place in a different location, this very slight, predictable twist in motive is a logical step to take (much like the 3DS was the next logical step for the DS) and, like every other Pokemon game, it was lacklustre and uninspiring. This isn't a bad thing - I mean, I know by now that if I want a story in a game, Pokemon is not the place to look - but I feel its been blown massively out of proportion by fans. No twists, no real involvement, no innovation. It needed more to it - MUCH more.

Graphics...well, I preferred HeartGold and SoulSilver, because they were infinitely prettier, but the 2.5D backgrounds (the bridges in particular) were fairly impressive. Some good anime-style cutscenes would have been nice, rather than what they just threw in.

The fifth generation itself...I was expecting them to render the fourth generation obsolete, so I'm not too bothered by that - I'm not much of a competetive player anyway, I haven't the patience for EV/IV training. Some of the designs are extremely lazy, but some of them aren't too bad. As usual, it ranges from the absolutely awful to the reasonably good. I wasn't overly keen on the fourth generation either, but that didn't stop me from enjoying D/P/Pt, and the designs here didn't detract too much (once I got started) from the experience I had playing B/W.

Mostly criticisms here, but don't misunderstand me: it wasn't a below-average game, not for Pokemon. It just wasn't the groundbreaking revolution that people and magazines made it out to be, especially not next to HG/SS which, even without the nostalgia value, were a dream come true, and had so much more content to them. I played B/W much the same way I played D/P when they first came out - with a minimum set of expectations. It fulfilled each one of them, but unlike HG/SS, it didn't go above and beyond them. It was just another instalment in a series that hasn't changed since it was first released. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptional. I could praise the battle system, exploration mechanics and everything else, but...well, those were present in every other game. You expect those to be in a Pokemon game, right? Beyond those standard things, there really isn't anything to praise, because it doesn't do anything new. At least, that is how I feel about it.

I love this game and the region is awesome, it even gives hoenn a run for its money, but on my opinion hoenn will always be on top. Cant wait for the remakes :P

I did like the story but the starters could have had more thought put into them. I mean another Fire/Fighting starter? I'm getting bored of this now...
Also if they made something where you could battle EVERY champion from each generation methinks that would be awesome, cause apart from battling online, battling cynthia or re-playing the Elite 4 there isn't much to do...

I though Black and White was going to be a disastrous game, but the more I played it, the more it grew on me, I like the Pokemon, Story, and stuff, what I don't like is it's length, It's too short. Also getting evolution stones can be a pain if you don't have two ds' and both black and white... Overall though, more good have been done to make this game more enjoyable after beating the elite four, not saying that I hate it, just saying there could of been more features. I hope they make a third game.

What was good: The battles flowed a lot faster than the other gens in my opinion, the new pokemon were also good, N and the rest of Plasma (Save Ghetsis) were executed well, and the music was fantastic.

What was bad: The safari zone was taken out, which upset me because i love the safari zone, no VS seeker, so you can't really find a good place to grind trainers until post-game (The Big stadium/little court had only a few trainers until post game, where there were about 10 in each place), not a lot of options before the first gym (You only got 5 different pokemon, and you could not trade), Gym leaders and Elite 4 were lacking more pokemon (They had 2/3 and 4 pokemon, respectively).

I'm willing to bet that Game Freak left out tons of features so they could rake in more money with "Gray".

Personally, I really enjoyed B/W. Beginning an entirely new region, with unique Pokemon and negotiating a really cool storyline, caught my attention immediately and pulled me in.

While I do prefer seeing my Pokemon walk around behind me like in HGSS, I can deal with the overworld absence.

I'm going slightly against the grain here. A lot of people have said that this gen reminds them of Hoenn and the Gen III originals. I've never really been a big fan of those particular games (in fact I've never got to the League). I've been playing White for three days now, which may be too little for me to judge fully, but I'm getting the same sense from this game that I originally got from Ruby.

It may be that I still play HG excessively, as the second gen was always my favourite, but I don't feel as involved. The range of Pokémon I've encountered so far (up to Route 4) haven't wowed me and I've found levelling anything up to be a chore. I like the idea behind the new experience system but so far all it has seemed to do is impede my progress and the exp drop seems to be a little too harsh. Perhaps a part of my disinterest comes from being denied any of the previous gen Pokémon for the entire duration of the story. I understand that Game Freak want people to be interested in the new Pokémon but they managed that in D/P while still keeping some old Pokémon in the pre-National Dex.

The battle system... what can I say. I've not run into a triple or rotation battle yet, so I can't comment on those. However, from my experience with wild battles there seems to be something slightly off about the one-on-one battles in this game. It could just be that I've had terrible luck with my IVs, but even super effective hits aren't doing as much damage as I recall and I'm having to work harder to get less EXP.

I'm surprised by the amount of features that have been taken out. The ow following sprite for the lead Pokémon was a fantastic idea and really added to the experience, despite being a minor element. Not being able to rebattle trainers also seems to be a huge step backwards. Also the lack of a Safari Zone (especially since the fantastic system from HGSS was hugely useful for completing the dex) seems odd, as there are precious few ways to get older Pokémon now.

The story looks like it could be deeper than any PKMN game so far and I'm willing to give it a go. I've heard nothing but good things about the new storyline and I'm looking forward to seeing it play out.

So whether it's just that I'm old, or because it's a drastic change, I'm having trouble getting into this series. I might report back should something drastic happen or I figure something out that dramatically changes my gameplay experience.

I picked up White a few days ago, and I am loving it.

Gen III was by far my least favourite, as I disliked Ruby and Emerald quite a lot. There was something I felt lacking in it. I also did not like Diamond Pearl and Platinum all that much. However, I really did enjoy Heart Gold and Soul Silver, and considered them on the same level of enjoyment as Gen I.

I heard mixed things for Black and White, so only just got around to getting them. I can honestly say this is one of my favourite Pokémon games yet. The world feels large and unique to all the previous ones, with a great variety of backdrops that made each city different. The difficulty was higher, which was also a good thing that makes the game a bit more interesting and more strategy based. The story is a daring new exploration for Pokémon, and it works. The pacing is a lot better than other Pokémon games, I actually spend a lot of time in each city and grow attached to each of them. Having two rivals is pretty fun too.

It all comes down to the new Pokémon; I have to say I really like the new designs. I think a lot of the new Pokémon are actually some of my favourites yet. Examples of this are Dewott, Zebrastrika, Minccino, Timburr and a huge bundle of others.

This game is one of my favourite Pokémon games.

BW was an excellent game. They're tied with Emerald for my favorite games in the series and Unova is my second to Hoenn as my favorite region. Yeah, I love Hoenn. The Pokemon were pretty disgusting, but I still managed to find a good amount that I like. Still, I see many people enjoying the ugly little monstrosities, so maybe I just have high standards when it comes to my Pokemon.

Anyways, whole not being a huge step for the franchise, it certainly improved many aspects. The battle aesthetics are obvious, the storyline is longer and more interesting, and there are many interesting characters; complete with Gym Leaders that don't sit in their gyms during the entire game.

Really, the only thing I didn't like was the new Pokemon, but I approve of Game Freak's decision to keep the older ones out of it until post-game. I liked seeing "Youngster Bob sent out _______" and not knowing what the heck it was. I had no idea what its type was, what it's ability and moves were, etc.

So yeah, Game Freak dazzles me again.

Can I just ^ this post? 'cept maybe the part about Pokemon, because tbh I really enjoy most if not all of the new designs. A couple of them don't really appeal to me but I can see how other people like it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with the storyline in the third game should they come out with one - BW's was definitely the best in the series and if they're going to eclipse that in the next game then it's going to be absolutely amazing.

I really like gen. 5 and Black/White a lot, but it has some downsides too.

I think the Pokémons in this generation is the coolest ever.
The Pokémon has been more "creature-like" in this generation, than before, and they now seems more imaginative.
Good examples are Volcarona, Hydreigon and Bisharp, who really looks like beasts.

The storyline in the games is the most original, in my opinion, since team plasma isn't about stealing Pokémon to control the world, but liberate Pokémon from people. That was pretty original, i think.

The downside of this generation is the Unova region.
You just go in a circle all over the region, and it's quite boring and predictible.
The routes aren't very long either, and that's a shame.

But all in all, I like generation 5 and the Black/White games :D
