I know it's a bit too early for this, but what do you want to see in the next generation Pokemon game? I haven't seen any open thread for this yet, but if there is, feel free to delete this thread. I have a steady list of what I want to see:
-New Pokemon! :D
-Unique Starter Secondary-Types (e.g. Grass/Ghost, Fire/Poison, Water/Dark)
-Being able to move diagonally (They've done it in Mystery Dungeon, it should be possible in the main series)
-Character customization
-More quests after the elite four
-Pokemon follow you (like HG/SS)
-New evolutions for previous generation Pokemon
-Two regions (like HG/SS)
-A region based on cities in Australia!
-The ability to ride Pokemon on land (Riding on a Rapidash, Meganium etc.)
-Bringing back secret bases, but this time secret bases that are more like a home, so you can rest and stuff.

I want weather. More realistic weather I should say. In the games, the weather like Rain and Snow only show up in specific spots. I want EVERYTHING to be able to rain/snow depending on the climate.

(EX. Pewter City would be snowy and Cinnabar would be hot.)

I also want it to have an effect on the Pokemon, other than stupid crap like Hail or Rain Dance.

I want snowy area battlegrounds to have like a 1% chance of freezing your pokemon at the start of battle.

Rain.. maybe a 1% chance to make the pokemon more weak to electric type attacks.

With Heat or Heat Wave, maybe a 1% chance to inflict burn.

I know it sounds imbalanced, but I would enjoy the hell out of it. :)

This would be pretty darn interesting, but it is pretty imbalanced.

Region based on another city!
Evolutions to the 2nd gen pokemons that doesn't have an evolution.
Different type combinations like water/fire, bug/electric.
And when you use surf or fly, it's the actual Pokemon's sprite that is shown :)

A Fire starter that doesn't become Fire/Fighting.
Multiple regions.
Multiple protagonists (specifically, "Are you a boy or a girl? A child or an adult?").
No grid (so you don't necessarily walk one step at a time or only in the four cardinal directions).
Free control of the camera in the overworld and in battle.
Pokemon fainting animations.
A dolphin Pokemon.
The option of walking Pokemon.
Ball Capsules that you can have on Pokemon that are in the box.
A bottom-screen app that utilizes the menu, applications (similar to the Poketch), and connectivity features (similar to the C-Gear).
Anything similar to the Sinnoh Underground.
Anything similar to Secret Bases or decorating your room.
More boxes.
The ability to send a caught Pokemon to any box of your choice ("Would you like to nickname this Pokemon? Which box would you like to send it to?")
A memory link feature that allows you to fight previous protagonists (similar to fighting Red) with your name and your chosen starter.
And probably more that I can't think of at the moment.
EDIT: See? I just remembered one: a region based on Washington DC with a plot filled with political intrigue.
Also, two National PokeDexes. This way we will know there is more than one nation in the Pokemon world (unless it's all supposed to be one utopic nation, which would create some interesting plots).

That's a huge list you have there, and I agree with you for everything!

Here ya' go. Another list:
-NO MORE MONKEY POKEMON
-Gangster-like (mafia) villainous teams
-Move animations to be more detailed
-Better Pokemon designs (The Vanilluxe family was "cool", but Garbodor... no.)
-A jetpack.
-A branching storyline (Change-able ending)
-Larger cities (like Castelia)
-TMs are unlimited (like BW/B2W2)
-Actual Pokemon Cries (from the anime)
-A female main villain
-A dark type gym
-A tablet PC device (portable) (where you are would affect if you could use it or not)
-A sibling rival (opposite gender of player)
-Tougher bug type Pokemon (like Gen 5)
-More pure flying type Pokemon

Less grinding. More content. HM moves replaced with items.

I am hoping to see a storyline again. I think we will see Unova and a new region connected though sense they are restarting. I hope they will make a few more Eeveelutions. Mainly Poison and Steel. I would love to see a turkey pokemon and maybe a Dolphan based evo line. Would also love to see a Dark/Dragon Legendary and a Steel/Dragon. More than a few rivals,I loved starting with two other trainers. More Ice and Dark pokemon and a hawk pokemon.

Also, would be nice to have another Team Magma/Team Aqua dual teams. Maybe Team Darkness and Team Light. Maybe one wants to destroy the moon and the other wants to destroy the sun. Or at least cover them up where they will never come out again. Maybe leave the Dragon Legedaries for a bit maybe only 1 and bring out more legendaries like Groudon,Kyoger,Mewtwo,Lugia and Ho-oH

AND NO MORE FIRE/FIGHTING TYPES!! I loved Blaziken, but it is getting annoying.

Also,it really isn't too early. Next year the next Generation will be out unless they make another Orange Isles/Battle Frontier saga

I have a few (probably unrealistic) things I'd like to see:

- More challenge: it would be cool if like in BW2, there could be different difficulty levels, only available from the very start, not as a gimmicky way into tricking people to think there's more replay value than there actually is. And I'd want harder difficulties to change opponent's movesets and increase their AI, rather than just increase their levels and amount of Pokémon.

- An interesting new mechanic: every generation brings new game and battle mechanics (i.e new type chart and breeding in Gen 2; natures and abilities in Gen 3; physical/special split in Gen 4), although Generation 5 only brought triple and rotation battles, which didn't really change anything, and they were underused. I want something as drastic in the Generation as the physical/special split which will actually change up strategies and will make it feel like a new experience.

- Better Balance: With each successive generation it's been easier and easier to pick out which Pokemon just suck, and an experienced player won't seriously use them in competitive play. There should be some change that will make Pokemon skill less reliant on stats and possibly movepool that will make them more viable options. I also think that EV's and IV's should be less manipulatable because getting the strongest Pokemon becomes much more of a chore than something that is actually fun. AND EV TRAINING HAS WASTED HOURS OF MY LIFE.

- Either no new Pokemon, or only use this gen and gen 5 and call it a Reboot: Don't get me wrong, I love the first three generations (4th gen, ehhh), but enough is enough. It's becoming increasingly difficult to justify Pokemon's continued existence when I have to attach the number 649 to the equation. I miss the days when catching them all wasn't a ridiculous goal. In my opinion, I'd say to either stop while you're behind or start over. (I'll bet most people will completely disagree with me on this one...)

- Rehaul the HP Formula: With the right strategies, a Pokemon can commonly OHKO another one in battle, so that fainted Pokemon essentially becomes useless in the grand scheme of things. Sure, this has been the core of Pokemon since the beginning, but it's a little stupid. I feel like even if a Pokemon is severely disadvantaged, within reason, it should be able to attack at least once or twice before fainting. In my experience as well, battle can be notoriously quick. So I suggest redoing the formula that decides a Pokemon's HP so it'll naturally be higher for all Pokemon (except Shedinja, of course). I think it could be fun.

I also agree that somehow, level grinding should be reduced, and HM's should be replace with items. Either that or make them almost entirely optional like in BW.

I would like to see the introduction of a LIGHT type, which would be both weak and strong against DARK and the same goes for DARK towards light.

Yes,I would love light types as well. It makers sense bringing Light in when we have dark types. This would also help my idea of the dual teams Team Darkness and Team Light. Not really evil, but just think they can block out the sun or moon or something similar so pokemon who noctournal and pokemon that are day light lovers can be better off.

Maybe bring in a Pure Dark type and a Pure Light type Legendary.

What I want is this.

-The starters having Psychic/Dark/Fighting as their secondary types respectively, like Fire/Psychic, Grass/Dark, and Water/Fighting for example.

-The post-game trainers having teams that aren't overleveled to level 70+ right after beating the E4 whose teams consisted of Pokes in their mid to late 50s at best, it's fine to have their levels high but not too high.

-The VS Seeker returning would be a huge plus since it helps immensely with grinding before a big challenge, at least for me anyways.

-The Follow Me feature returning would also be nice but it would be even nicer to be able to toggle this on or off as well.

That's it for now.

A lot of good suggestions in this thread. Some of mine might have already been said, but I'll add them again for approval.

- Simple character customization. I wouldn't expect the full ability to change hair styles, face, body shape, etc., but 8-10 selectable outfits would be a huge step in the right direction (and be much easier to program, too).

- Have a modified Pokemon following feature. Don't make it mandatory to have a Pokemon following you around, and let us have the ability to let any one of our 6 Pokemon walk with us, not just the first in our party.

- Limit the number of new Pokemon. If I were in charge of the new games, I'd make sure that no more than 101 new Pokemon were added. By the time you reach 750, you've already got 5x more Pokemon than what we originally started with, which is getting a little crazy.

- More dynamic weather. The 5th gen games started on this, but there were still places within the region that would never see rain or snow, which was unrealistic for most parts of what the region was based on. I'd love to see snow at certain places even in the fall, and lots of rain in the spring. Heck, we could even have intense sunlight during the Summer (like the effects of Sunny Day).

- Customisable fly checkpoints. It's always bothered me that typically you can only fly to Pokemon Centers, your home, the Pokemon League, and maybe one or two other locations. I know there have been many times where I wanted to quickly fly to a good training spot or the Daycare or something, but the closest I could get was still a fair bit away. I think this is something that is rarely thought of, but a lot of people would be happy to have.

- The return of Secret Bases. This was one of those neat little extras from past games that I actually missed in B/W. If you had the ability to heal your Pokemon here too and maybe have a berry growing garden outside it would be very useful (and could be a potential fly checkpoint).

- Branching/non-linear storyline. In the past games you are basically stuck with going from Point A-B-C, etc. if you want to complete the story. But say I want to go to Point C's Gym first. This could be done by having Gym Leaders with different level Pokemon dependant on how many badges you have. Also, other trainer's Pokemon would increase depending on your number of badges, so you aren't forced to face high-leveled trainers just because you wanted to travel around the region first.

- Bring back the VS Seeker! This was probably my most used item in FireRed and Platinum, as I was able to better train and prepare for later on. HG/SS was alright with the Pokegear and having trainers call you for a rematch, but it was on their terms and only a limited number of trainers. And if there's a huge level jump like in the post game of B/W, it would help to better prepare for that.

I've probably got at least a dozen more things I'd like to see added to a new game, but I think this is a pretty good start.
