  • Not every character in the suporting cast is a "Rival". GF might just want to add more characters.

One of them is a Rival who will challenge you repeatedly. One will compare pokedex with you. One is forming a dance team.

They can be your friend, but why are they all your "rival"

Well the dex and the one who challenges you seem a lot like traditional rivals we've seen before, so we definately can count those two. The other two seem like new kinds of rivals to me, which would be a nice change of pace from the past five generations.

  • I'll have to disagree with you on one thing SnowPoint. Fairy type, I hate it. Like I said before, seeing new types is great, is love more, go on deviantart and you'll see them everywhere (Cosmic, Nuclear, Machine, Chaos, etc.). And everyone speculated on Sound and Light, which again, the type effectiveness can easily be explained, just ask. Fairy seems more like it's a species, not a type. I mean sure, it kind of belongs, but, they could have at least added a second type to counter it because as it stands, Fairy type is effective against Dragon which makes no sense, and is weak against Poison. I just think they could have done better with their first new type in 14 years.

Bug, Ghost and Dragon looks nothing like a type either but more like a species, you could count Flying and maybe Fighting. Flying is more like wind element tho.

  • What makes Fairy-Type a distinct type is that it is different. A fairy pokemon can not be mistaken for a fire pokemon or an electric pokemon.

What is Light? Electro-Magnetic Radiation. what kind of creature emits such energy? All electric type pokemon.

What is Light? Visible light we can see. The same light emited by all fire pokemon. And all fire type attacks.

How do you distinguish a Light Pokemon, who's core element is emitting Light, from an Electric pokemon or a Fire pokemon that also emit light? Light is emitted from all three types equally.

If you don't understand the Fairy>Dragon match up, Read a Book.
(or read the dedicated Fairy thread because we have covered it like 10 times.)

I'm not calling any one person out. All I am arguing is that Light cannot be a distinct type because the main property of Luminescence is shared by many other Types of pokemon. Not on a case-by-case-basis, but as a core element of being such types.

Sorry if I sound angry, or argumentative. I am actually quite happy that so many people are eager to embrace the new type. It was a bold move that may lead to other bold moves in the future.

  • My problem with fairy type is that it seems like most pokemon which would be considered fairies are psychic types. Gardevoir is one example, but what other pokemon would be fairies? Cresselia? Uxie/mespirit/azelf? Munna? It seems to me like psychic/fairy will be thought of as a combo the same way we think of Normal/Flying as a combo.

Also, I'm willing to bet the new Mewtwo form is a fairy.

  • I think really my problem with Fairy type is just that, I was already very embracive of Sound and Light. I know I'll eventually come around to it though, it's still just new to me I suppose.

You do make a good argument though SnowPoint. It would be a bit difficult to differentiate Light type Pokemon to a degree. If Light type were to come in though, if I had to choose certain existing Pokemon that appear as though that they'd accurately represent it, I'd say Pokemon like Arceus and Jirachi.

Fairy types just still new to me and not what I was expecting, but I'll come to love it like everything else so far, except for Krelp. I don't like Krelp.

I guess the new type will just grow on me, many people here may not accept it (at first) but I don't blame them, it's been a long while since GF made big changes like these so you guys need to chill out a bit & as said before, apply less logic to Pokemon.

However GF should have announced a Sound type too, it would be very applicable to Pokemon like Whismur, Chatot, Kricketot & Audino. And some other possible Pokemon would be Jigglypuff, Ursaring & Yanma. But I wouldn't know what will be its strengths & weaknesses though...

  • I don't think they would introduce two new types separately in one generation, there was such a buzz around the Fairy type for months before it's reveal and now the Sound type theory has only cropped up within the last two weeks due to the reveal of the Fairy type and Noivern.

  • Maybe Dark could be weak against sound...and Dragon...as sounds can sometime make the Dark less scary...or sometimes more so maybe a back and forth. And sound could scare off dragon, idk. Or even better make Electric weak to sound to give it another weakness...
Though I think Fairy is it for this generation...and maybe another 15 years...

  • If there was a Sound Ability that boosted the "Sound" moves by 50% That would create a "Sound-Type" Imagine a Normal-Type using Hyper-Voice with "SoundBoost" 50% Stab, 50%Ability Boost.

I like sound attacks, they are cool, but don't need a type yet.

Or I could be wrong and all 4 other characters already have a Pokemon, since it has been revealed that the start is like the start of the 3re gen games, where you are the new kid moving into town. This is all speculation though.

No, I saw a picture of Shauna saying something along the lines "Can we see the pokemon now? I can't wait to meet my new partner"

I guess three of you will get the three starters. Tierno will probably get a pokemon that you would expect to dance. (maybe he'll get a fairy type)

Somebody might get an Eevee or even a Pikachu.

  • Figuring out the type effectiveness of sound is easy, just look at how sound waves work. If it were a type it'd have no effect on Rock or Steel, since Sound waves can't travel through them (at least not easily) and it would be super effective against Psychic since that's all about using your mind and having concentration, sound would disrupt that. Magmaruby, you bring up an interesting idea with that, but, the problem with that is Dark represents evil, not actual darkness.

  • When I go to buy X, I will wear my Pikachu plush on my head -staple it to my cap.

I have never played any game OVER generation three so this will be new for me. Netting new Pokemon -most I have never seen before is very exciting and oh boy, I can't wait ^^

The protag you play, yes. The protag look-a-like rival who happens to be the opposite gender have different names from the playable protags. Calem for the male and Serena (sailor moon #2) for the female.

  • I don't even know if they'll have a midnight release for these games where I live. I doubt they will as they have never had any midnight releases here for Pokémon...

I hope so, I've always wanted to go to a midnight release since they don't usually do them for Pokemon here. I think the games will be downloable in the eShop from midnight but that wouldn't be the same!
