Age: Fifteen, 15
Gender: Female
Appearance: Due to the unfortunate process of genetics, little miss Lawrence has inherited the horrible life altering illness that is known to most as being short. By secretly adding up the height of those she knows closest in age to herself and averaging the result, Ivy found that she stands at approximately five whole inches shorter.
Five. It's an absolute disgrace. A mockery of her very being! It was proof that the world started messing with her the day she was born. Arceus knows she tried to reverse the illness' affects as soon as possible. However, all the methods she tried ended as a failure. Stretching? A hoax. Eating a dozen eggs a week? Yeah, that was smart. Oh and there was that one time she hung upside down by her feet! That was one heck of a headache. Nonetheless, she learned to live with her four foot foolishness.
Unlike most teenage girls (or Sparkles, as she dubs them) she has come across in her life, her body is built the opposite of a twig. A good few pounds of meat and muscle make up her legs—fit for short distance running—and the rest of her figure. She has defined curves and often tries to use them to her advantage, despite her obvious adolescence. Ivy shares her mother's rounded face and rosy cheeks with the exception of her paternal grandfather's snub nose and gray eyes. Her lips are a plump nuisance as they sit there triumphantly ruining any smile that involves teeth. Resting atop her head is short light brown hair cut in a layered bob that rests just below her chin. The hair seems to have a mind of its own throughout the day. Around noon it has a slight curl, at night it falls flat like a drape, and she doesn't even want to think about mornings. Mornings are absolute nightmares.
As for her attire things mostly stay the same during the span of the week. Starting from the bottom up, she wears thick yellow rain boots that are slightly too small for her feet. It's a fashion trend. To those who protest otherwise she gives them her signature and-what-do-you-know-about-it look that tends to frighten onlookers away. Underneath are two dirty overused white crew socks that hardly see the light of day. Enough said. For the bottoms Ivy chooses to wear both a burnt red cargo skirt and small blue shorts. A brown belt helps keep the two in line as it holds all necessary and unnecessary trinkets such as Pokéballs or string. She also wears a pale yellow top that is layered with an orange and red half-vest sort of thingamajig. She just adores the two tiny buttons on the front. To complete the outfit are two matching red and white gloves that are worn whether winter or summer. They're the young girl's lucky gloves and she never leaves home without them.
They work miracles. She swears by it.
Personality: To say that Ivy was a stubborn young lass would be a vast understatement. There was no such thing in her mind as backing down or giving up. When she set her mind on something it was like a life or death mission to achieve it or make it possible. In arguments with others she tends to forget that other people have their own views and opinions, but they don't really matter anyway, right? Right. There was also no such thing as authority. This made it very difficult for her parents. When it came to discipline she was probably the hardest challenge they would ever face in life. She refused to stick her nose in a corner, as it was seen by her as a jest to her dignity, and grounding the girl also proved difficult. She just would not stay in her room! They could lock the door and she would just flee out the window and walk right in through the front door. Ivy was absolutely impossible. It must be that wild nature of her father getting in the way of reason.
Now the girl was also intelligent beyond her years. She could solve an intense equation before her classmates could recite their letters. Unfortunately, this raw talent was used for the evil doings of one rather than the good of the many. Ivy was calculating in everything she did, whether it be outsmarting her teachers or plotting her next move against the establishment, and this would often get her into loads of trouble. Especially when it came to fights with the other children. Now the thing about Ivy is that she is the one to stick up for the true underdogs. She will bully the other bullies until they cease in their efforts to make life miserable for others. She saw it as giving back to them what they put out in this world. One would think that this would help in her endeavors to find friends, but she was seen as a horrible person and a danger to all. She didn't mind though. It was better to be feared than to be rejected. Yet there was a part of her that was lonely inside. She had a single friend, Elliot, but even he in his adorableness wasn't enough to quench her everlasting thirst for acceptance.
The girl was short-tempered and easily blew her top. However, instead of a fiery outburst she had a cold and slow burning anger. You would never see it coming. The young lady has also been labeled arrogant, cocky, and even audaciously loquacious in the worst of ways. However, what most people don't know about her is that she uses these weapons of destructive personality as a mask. She hides behind them like armor so that she can stand up to anything and hold out for what she believes in. Inside there is a different story. She is riddled with a mass of sorrowful emotions such as being lost and feeling helpless. Bad things in life happen, and though she can't for the life of her figure out why, she tries to prevent them at all costs for the ones she cares about. Even if that means putting herself in a poor light. When it comes to her friend Elliot, she views herself as his guardian. Protecting him from the harm of others. As for her family she won't take any wrongful talk of them. None whatsoever, but sadly there seems to be a lot of it these days.
Nonetheless, there are good things in her as well. Ones that don't shine as bright or show as often, but they are there. Sometimes one can see a kindness seep through her when she is around Pokémon or Elliot. Like a soft flutter of light that could make someone smile just by looking at it. Ivy also has a nurturing nature for those she deems worthy of it. She becomes a caretaker when she takes certain people or creatures under her wing, and only tries to give them the best of the world. Her laughter and her smile are just like her mother's. They seem to brighten the darkest of days. Not many see this from her. Those who do though are happy to have her in their company.
History: The story of how her parents met and how she came to be still plagues her mind to this day. Why she could practically recite it word for word! It all started with a young man named Walter. He had been born to the handsomely rich and famously known Lawrence family. They were the celebrities of the bustling Goldenrod City and they had a hand in every business in town whether it be housing, entertainment, or shopping needs. They were prim folk with the heart of a serpent and far reaching ambitions. Their two sons, however, were a nothing like the rest of the Lawrences. Walter and his brother Arthur were rowdy, free-spirited boys who couldn't tell a silver coin from a gold one. They built up quite the reputation for being the troublemaking misfits of the city. Yet Walter was the heir to his family's fortune and businesses, so thus he was expected to eventually get his act together and be the man he
needed to be. Unfortunately for his parents, he decided that he was going to be who he
wanted to be and continue on the path of parental rebellion.
This is about the time when he met Ivy's mother. One day while visiting a family owned theatre he saw the ballet performance of Swanna Lake. He was entranced by one of the background dancers who he believed shone more than the lead. She was a beauty to betake, as he would recall later, and time seemed to slow down as she glided across the stage only to disappear behind the curtain. From then on Walter could not focus on anything other than that woman, and so he waited patiently until the performance ended before escorting himself backstage. He found her sitting in front of the dressing room mirror or combing out her long sandy blonde hair. Instead of reacting badly to a stranger watching her, she smiled.
My gosh, he thought,
does she light up the room with that smile. From there he learned her name: Margaret Leighton, or Maggie. It just so happened that they were perfect for each other. They fit like two puzzle pieces in the grander scheme of life.
They fell in love and after only a few short months he proposed. Then came the matter of telling his family. His parents neither knew that their son had been seeing her nor that he asked her to marry him. So when he came home with a sweet young woman and announced his engagement it was no wonder they were outraged. She was a common girl! Of common people! Why, she was even a dancer for a company they owned. Maggie was thought of as the dirt beneath their feet and they treated her as such. They asked their son to call off the marriage or be disowned and lose his family inheritance to Arthur. He chose the latter, and walked out of his childhood home with a smile on his face and the love of his life on his arm. From there history was made. Not too long after their honeymoon, Ivy was born as the first and only child of the newlywed Lawrences in the small humble town of Azalea.
Ivy grew up with a disgust for other human beings that disagreed with her point of view on life. The children of Azalea town had little to no intelligence (or so she believed) and so she spent most of her days alone in the backwoods of her house. There would be times when her parents would force her to play with the other kids.
It never ended well. Wait, scratch that... it always ended in disaster. At first she would be a sweet, loving young thing but if they said something wrong about her or her family she would tear them down until the last kid in the town avoided her. Yet there was an exception of a boy named Elliot. He lived a few houses down and was the shiest person she had ever met. She treated him like a younger brother and poured the good remnants of her being onto him. He was her best and only friend in the world.
Together, they would pretend to be Pokémon trainers battling it out to see who would reign Champion. They loved everything about Pokémon and dedicated their waking moments to learn all they could about all the types and moves. It would often interfere with their regular schoolwork and after another skipped class their parents laid down the law. The two weren't to see each other or even think about Pokémon until after school, and even then they were only allowed a few hours at most. So in secret they would sneak out at night and go into Ilex Forest to be free.
However, all good things eventually come to an end. There was an incident one night as they came across an angry Paras. It charged the two friends and Elliot ended up with a nasty cut and fell ill from its Poisonpowder attack. After that night he and his parents moved away, leaving Ivy utterly lost and alone.
Despite the incident, she couldn't help but love Pokémon more after seeing their abilities. Ivy's parents told her many stories of daring adventures and traveling the world as a trainer.
She longed to be one of the greats. This brings up to now. After hard months of wishing and hoping she was finally given the chance to become a Pokémon Trainer.
There was also a part of her that knew she would see Elliot again one day, and they would meet on the battlefield as rivals, but also as long lost friends.
