  • If you haven't noticed already, pretty much every single Pokemon had its cry modified in some form or another. How do you feel about them?

Well, I'm pretty annoyed about Pikachu's being THAT different from every other pokemon! ;-)

i never play with the sound on so i don't usually hear them, but making Pikachu say it's name is just annoying to me. The worst part about the anime (besides ash being the worst trainer ever) is the pokemon saying their names. Especially after watching Origins, that aside, new tech means better sounds, so they'll probably keep changing with the games.

Modern technology was also a reason why Pokemon cries started getting more diverse for new Pokemon introduced since 4th Gen, notable ones there include Starly sounding like birds chirping, Kricketot sounding like a xylophone and Vanillite sounding like shattering ice. Heck, there's even Gothitelle with its cry that sounds like the music from the shower scene in Psycho.

Once I heard a few of the old Pokemon's updated cries in X/Y I do admit they made some of them bad but having Pikachu use its anime voice is a nice touch.

  • I say it sounds abit more realistic since this is a new 3d game. Some sound more epic now than they were before and some sound more sensical to the animals they are based on.

  • I like most of the new cries, updated Gen 1 cries do sound a little more "animal" than "8-bit" now, so that's pretty cool.

But I do wish Game Freak released an optional patch or a DLC that would revert Pikachu to his pre-Gen 6 cry. I mute the sound for a second or two every time the yellow rodent shows up. Not to mention it doesn't fit in at all with the cries of Pichu and Raichu.

  • I really love the cries in this game, even Pikachu (especially Pikachu!).

I think they did a really great job with them, and they sound more and more individual and realistic!

  • To me, Electrode, Magmar, Slugma, Mightyena, Linoone, Lunatone, Crawdaunt, Chatot, Snover, Gulpin, Swalot, Rhyhorn and Sandile sounded the same right now as in the past.

There were also some Pokemon whose cries didn't need to be changed, IMO, like Rhydon, Ducklett, Persian, Mankey, Magneton, Onix, Nuzleaf, Swablu, Volbeat, Illumise, Bagon, Bronzong, Breloom, Loudred, Hariyama, Delcatty, Magnezone, the elemental monkeys, Woobat, Audino, Gurdurr, Conkeldurr, Scraggy, Gothorita, Reuniclus, Karrablast, Escavalier, Galvantula, Klinklang, Chandelure, Fraxure, Haxorus, Rufflet, Deino, Volcarona, Palpitoad, Throh, Sawk, Venipede, Petilil, Krokorok, Krookodile, Croagunk and Toxicroak.

I don't really tend to notice alterations in cries- except Pikachu's which is glaringly obvious with the change. I like it.
What I DON'T like is how Alomomolga sounds like a flippin' cat

I think they should have left it the way it was pregen 6 because its nice for the older players. Glad they didn't change the 8-bit part of the Mewtwo theme, it was perfect.

The only two new cries I can remember off the top of my head are Pikachu and Raichu's. I really loved the idea of having Pikachu's anime cry implemented into the game; brought back memories of Pokémon Yellow, haha! I mean it's definitely out of place compared to the others, of course, but I still think it's a neat touch. I remember Raichu's, too, since I use one on my team. I really love its new cry, it sounds really cute!

I think changing the sounds of the cries was a pretty neat idea to go along with the more realistic (??) view that the games show, I guess?

  • I definitely like many changes of Pokémon cries, I think most of them become better and realistic, despite some of them are still getting original cry even though they have been altered. And Pikachu stands out among the rest for being voiced like in its anime counterpart, it's a nice touch.

Out of the ones I've heard, most of them don't really sound any better; some sound a bit worse. Some didn't need their cries changed (Krookodile and Haxorus, for example). I'm glad that Charizard and Rhyhorn no longer have the exact same cry, but they could've made Charizard's better.

There is one Pokémon that had its cry improved: Hydreigon. Thing sounds so cool now!

And I'm curious to see what Diagla sounds like now. It has one of the few cries I don't like. And I hope that they don't screw up Zekrom's...

  • I love playing with Pikachu in the Poke-aime game. My girlfriend likes playing with Pikachu as well (even though she can't figure out how to pet it.... ends up smacking poor Pikachu).

  • I hear Pikachu and Bidoof are the only ones who actually shout their names when they cry. That's right, Bidoof. Just let that sink in.

For the record, I haven't played the games yet but it's nice to see than Gen 1's don't sound 8-bit now. And in case you feel nostalgic, there's Gen V if you still have it.

am i really the only one who thinks it's flat out stupid that the pokemon say their names? Don't care if pikachu is the mascot, leave that crap in the kiddie anime.

That's the thing though: Pikachu's cry matching the anime is another item on the list of Genwunner-pandering in Pokemon X and Y, alongside the Kanto starters, dual Charizard/Mewtwo megas, etc.

pikachu's cry has nothing to so with the first gen, it's pokemon's mascot as i said, so they make it stand out

I would argue otherwise. The anime is closely associated with the franchise's hayday, and it's their way of saying "Hey? Remember when you used to watch the anime? Play our game, lapsed fans!"

yet the anime has little to do with the games save for the location and pokemon, plus you wouldn't know about pikachu's cry unless you've played the game, so, quit whining, there are constant ties to every gen in pokemon, past and future, if you don't like, play something else, otherwise keep your pointless opinions to yourself
