  • Have you ever saw some food or drink, thought it was different from what it actually was and hated it?

One time, many years ago, I saw these yellow candy-like things that looked like they had sour coating. I thought they were lemon flavored, so I tried one, but my mouth felt super bitter! I found out from my parents that they were gingers, which are much different. x_x

How about you guys? Any situations like that you've had? Discuss.

I hate root beer. Considering there are things with soda flavors, it has caused many problems. I won't eat mystery flavored dum-dums or whatever they're called anymore because they have a chocolate flavor and a root beer flavor and they're the SAME COLOR. Also Bottle Caps - I won't eat brown ones because I have no clue which flavor they are. My sister also used to order root beer as a kid and switch it with my coke to mess with me.

This is why I have trust issues.

When I was little I used to confuse similarly-coloured drinks for coke. There have been times I drank iced tea and even rum and coke (mixed together) because I thought they were just coke. Ick ick ick :x

  • Not really, actually. :I

I guess I'm just smart lucky enough to have never had any of those, 'Oh, Look! A raisin!' moments.

  • I'm actually really careful about this haha. But only because I don't want to ruin my enjoyment of something by expecting something else! Like, if I was expecting root beer and ended up with coke I would be disgusted- not because I dislike coke, but because I was completely prepared for root beer and I'd be thrown off. And then I couldn't enjoy the coke because it would taste kind of wrong regardless of knowing it was supposed to be like that.
So like, when picking things up to try I'm always really careful to go in neutral-minded so I can figure out if I like or dislike it properly. I don't want to give myself a terrible opinion of something great just because it's not what I was expecting.

  • I once accidentally drank bourbon thinking it was Coke, and I'm someone who usually likes to steer clear of alcohol because I always have a fear of getting drunk. It apparently tasted really bad, like it made me want to spit it out. Didn't help the color of the drinks were very similar.

My parents are avid drinkers of spiked ice tea, and they would always trick me into drinking it. That stuff is nasty. I still don't understand how anyone can drink numerous alcoholic beverages in one sitting and not vomit profusely.

I thought I was drinking my ice tea but my friend replaced it with beer and it tasted awful(not a drinker back then).

  • I once thought I was getting lamb cuts. I got cuts, alright. But from kidney or liver (I don't remember). I don't like eating parts I don't have regularly, so I didn't really enjoy my meal.

  • I really enjoy dark chocolate, and I know that some kinds are very bitter. So one day, I took a bite of some, thinking it would be that savory, sweet taste.

Nope, it was NOT the case. I have never tasted anything so bitter!

The fact that your parents did that is cracking me up. Was it spiked iced tea or Long Island iced tea? Very different things.

Spiked. They only do it because they know I think it tastes disgusting and they like seeing me almost vomit when I drink it.

I don't really do this sorta thing too often, and I'm not sure if it's because I'm not too picky when it comes to trying food, or if I'm just careful..? Though, the few times it's happened, I'd tried something that I thought was going to be sweet, but it ended up being something salty or spicy.

I've done it at buffets, or at friends' houses when I was younger. "Man, that looks like pudding, maybe it's good :D" and then it was some sort of hot salad dressing, or something. When you're not expecting it, it's horrifying and gross. lmfao
