Poké Balls

There are hundreds of different Poké Balls out there, ranging from Great, Ultra, and Master, all the way to Luxury, and each of them serve their own, unique purpose. In terms of design, which of those is your favorite, and why? Which do you find yourself using most often in-game? Additionally, if you were to create your own Poké Ball, what would you call it, how would it look, and which way would it actually be working?

  • My favorite Poké Balls are the Dusk Ball, Quick Ball, Luxury Ball and Net Ball. I like their designs the most and they have a lot of good uses, considering if you play at night or are in a cave the former gets boosted even greater than an Ultra Ball, same with the latter if you're against a Water or Bug-type (which are very common). I end up using them pretty often.

And if I were to make a Poké Ball, i'd make one that would have a higher catch rate against Fire, Ground and Rock-type Pokémon, and name it the Earth Ball and give it a rocky design.

  • My favorites would have to be the Dusk Ball and Quick Ball. These are the two types of balls I use very frequently in-game, especially the Quick Ball, and I find them very useful overall. Dusk Balls become much stronger than an Ultra Ball when used in a cave or at night, making them very handy when trying to capture Legendary Pokemon. Quick Balls also have a very high catch rate when used on the first turn of battle and it almost always results in a successful capture when used on lower-leveled mons. I also really like their design for some reason.

If I were to make my own PokeBall, it would be the DRAGON BALL Stone Ball. Think of it as a better Moon Ball. The Stone Ball would have a 3X catch rate on Pokemon that evolve by use of an Evolutionary Stone, not just a Moon Stone. This gives the Stone Ball a more diverse amount of Pokemon to capture, unlike the Moon Ball.

  • Dusk and Quick. I play at night mostly so they are very helpful. My favorite design for a pokeball is the heal ball.

Appearance-wise, my favorites would be Primer, Dusk, and Luxury; their designs are very nice-looking. Although their differences are barely noticeable aside from just color scheme, they could still be recognized if you pay enough attention! As far as mechanics go, I suppose I'd have to go with Ultra. It's got much higher catch rate than Great, and I personally find myself using it at all times, even when capturing legendaries. Legendary Pokémon usually reside in caves, so it's more wise to use Dusk Balls on them, but I still choose to go with Ultra, for some reason; I suppose I'm just too used to it. I mean, I do use Dusk, but just not as often; I'm yet to familiarize myself with them. For those that are new to Pokémon, it shouldn't be such a tough task. For me, though, it is. Aside from Ultra, I'm also a huge fan of Master, even though I rarely use it in any game. Every time I get a hold of one of these, I just keep it in my bag for collection purposes; only time you'd see me using it is when I run into some roaming Pokémon and whatnot.

My favorite would have to be the Quick Ball. I find that its effect of having a high catch rate on the first turn makes most of the other balls useless in comparison. Though I keep a few Ultra Balls just in case. For catching legendaries I lower its health first then do a bit of stalling and use Timer Balls.

The worst pokéball I think would be the Nest Ball because it's used to catch low-leveled pokémon and by the time you're able to buy them everything is too high-leveled for them.

  • I prefer and love using the most is the Luxury Ball - makes me smile knowing that along the journey the Pokemon will be friendlier.

  • I think the Dive Ball is really pretty, I love when I have an excuse to use that :)

I also like a couple of Kurt's balls and the Net Ball, given that it actually releases a net design when you use it :) I use it for Bug types moreso than Water.

The one I use the most is probably the Ultra Ball - I generally overstock for the Legendaries and then just use the rest throughout the game for pokés that probably don't even need an Ultra Ball lol :)

If I could create a ball, it'd be similar to a Park Ball for Flying types and it would be used in a similar manner to the Bug Catching contest, except for a Bird Catching Contest lol :)

  • My favorite Pokemon design is the Great Ball, not sure why! The color scheme is really appealing and every chance I get I try to catch my Pokemon with them, haha. In terms of quality, I think the Dusk Ball is helpful, because I usually tend to play Pokemon during the night! Dive Balls have a really pretty look to them, though I've never actually used one d:

When it comes to design I like Luxury balls. They look sleek and just more elegant than any of the other designs. I tend to use Quick balls all the time though because I'm lazy and just want to catch Pokemon and go. I really can't imagine making another kind of poke ball because the quick ball does exactly what I want. I could maybe see another ball catching a certain kind of Pokemon like how the net ball is best for catching bug and water types.

  • I like to keep it plain and simple with just the Poke ball and Premier balls. Both of these balls aren't particularly flashy and are lacking in any ornamental designs. But, I prefer the sleekness and colour of them.

Also, a lot of my legendary captures are within in Premier balls! So, that's another reason why I love the Premier ball :D

  • Quick Balls and Dusk Balls are my general go-to Poke Balls. For the former, I don't really have to battle the Pokemon, but if it fails, I just use other Poke Balls. Dusk Balls help big-time in caves, especially against legendaries.

In terms of design, I like Quick, Net, Master and Safari.

Your Poke Ball just made me think - what if they had a ball that wasn't round?? Like asymmetrical or rocky or even square!

  • I have an undying love for the Dusk Ball - that thing just works amazingly in caves, which is where most legendaries tend to be. I also seem to play more at night which is when they really work, so I carry them around to have some form of change against wild Pokemon. For design, the aforementioned Dusk and the Dive Balls are favourites for design in my opinion. I like the Dusk Ball's orange and black colour scheme, while the Dive Ball stays true to its name with water-related detail.

If I could make my own Poke Ball, I'd make one where you can catch version exclusives instantly. Of course, I'd make sure the version mascot's immune to the effects, but seeing as how there's a few version exclusives in each game, you can't really abuse this ball. Unfortunately with those rules in place, you'll only be able to use this Ball variant once or twice during the main story...

    The Dusk Ball is love.
I love it for its design but it is also really effective. I mostly play at night so it's always working at top efficiency. Ever since I have been able to buy Dusk Balls in Y I have caught literally every single Pokemon in a Dusk Ball except for one.

It sucks that there's very little official merchandise for it. I think there's two toys out on the market that features them? I'd really like them to make one for the high quality foam Pokeball toys.

  • I would say the Premier ball if I encounter a shiny, ultra ball for just catching stuff, heavy ball or moon ball for breeding. I love the design of all the ones I mentioned except the ultra ball. I just use that because of the capture rate.

I would make a ball called the chameleon ball. It would change colors in certain areas to match the colors of the pokemon inside.

  • In terms of design, I love the Moon, Luxury, Premier, and Cherish Balls. They're all really pretty, and I love the animation used for the Luxury/Premier/Cherish Balls when a Pokemon is sent out of them.

In terms of usage, Timer, Quick, Dusk, and Ultra Balls. Timer and Dusk Balls have helped me capture many a legendary; Quick Balls have helped me catch some shinies and some legendaries, as well as Pokemon I need for breeding (don't wanna spend too much time or balls on a Pokemon I'll never use on my team, after all); and Ultra Balls help when the other three can't be used effectively.

If I could create a specialized Poke Ball, it'd be one that works better if the Pokemon is inflicted with non-volatile and volatile status conditions. I'd call it the Status Ball, and it'd have a mix of a hazy/fiery/cloudy design. As for the way it works:

Say, for example, a Pidgey is burned. Its chance of being caught is multiplied by 1.5 because of it. Because it is inflicted with one status condition, the Status Ball's rate is x2 instead of x1; thus, the capture rate is at x3. However, you decide to use Confuse Ray on the Pidgey and confuse it. The Status Ball's rate is now x3. The capture rate this time is x4.5. The more status inflictions it has, the higher the Status Ball's capture rate goes; however, it'd increasing in capture rate at four status conditions (where it'd be at x5).

    I guess it's a bit complex, but it'd still be interesting nonetheless~

  • I adore Luxury balls. A ball that that just plain says "you're fancy" (and helps with friendliness but still). Who doesn't like to be fancy?? I want everyone I battle to say "my god, this guy is fancy". A team of pokemon all in Luxury balls. Ugh what a great life it truly is. Fetch me some more tea Jeeves.

and a ball of my own? I would just love to have a Gimmick ball. A ball that has a higher percentage chance of critical capture, but lower chance of capture than a Pokeball.

Then it probably wouldn't be called a ball, haha. Every time balls are referred to, I always think of round objects, and so do most other people, I'm sure. If it were squared, then it would've been known as Poké Block (or something along the lines), most likely, which already exists.
